Netflix Announces ‘Plankton: The Movie’ Set in the ‘SpongeBob’ Universe

Netflix is further expanding into the SpongeBob SquarePants universe with Plankton: The Movie. The upcoming project was announced during the streamer’s Next on Netflix Animation presentation for press.

The movie is set to debut in 2025. “Plankton’s world is flipped upside down when his plan for world domination is thwarted,” a logline for the film reads.

Plankton: The Movie is directed by Dave Needham with Marc Ceccarelli and Vincent Waller serving as executive producers. The story is by Plankton voice-actor Mr. Lawrence who also wrote the screenplay alongside Kaz and Chris Viscardi. The movie is based on the original Nickelodeon series SpongeBob SquarePants, which was created by Stephen Hillenburg.

The movie will star Mr. Lawrence (Plankton), Jill Talley (Karen), Tom Kenny (SpongeBob), Bill Fagerbakke (Patrick Star), Carolyn Lawrence (Sandy Cheeks), Clancy Brown (Mr. Krabs) and Rodger Bumpass (Squidward).

This is the second SpongeBob project coming to Netflix after Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie, which will premiere on Aug. 2. When all the denizens of Bikini Bottom are suddenly scooped from the ocean, it’s up to SpongeBob and Sandy to travel to Texas and save their home from a villainous plot.

The news comes as SpongeBob SquarePants is celebrating its milestone 25th anniversary. In addition to Plankton: The Movie, Paramount is slated to release The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants in theaters on December 19, 2025.

Over the past few years, Netflix has released several Nickelodeon movies exclusively based on established Nick IP, including The Casagrandes Movie, but other movies included Invader Zim: Enter the FLORPUS, The Loud House Movie, Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling, and Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie. Netflix also acquired the international rights to The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run midway through the pandemic. Netflix also released the SpongeBob game SpongeBob: SquarePants Get Cooking! to its 50+ strong arsenal of mobile game titles. The game developed by iLLOGIKA.

Paramount+ Announces New Original Docuseries on American Soccer Star Christian Pulisic

PARAMOUNT+ ANNOUNCES NEW ORIGINAL DOCUSERIES ON AMERICAN SOCCER STAR CHRISTIAN PULISIC

June 1, 2024 – Paramount+ today announced a new docuseries PULISIC, which gives an in-depth, behind-the-scenes look at Christian Pulisic and traces the life story of how he’s risen to become American soccer’s biggest star. Slated to begin filming this summer, the multi-season, multi-episode series will premiere this fall during the 2024-2025 soccer season.

The series will provide unprecedented access to Pulisic’s life and growing celebrity in Italy as he competes in the UEFA Champions League and Serie A competitions. Cameras will be in tow every step of the way as Pulisic meets the demands of global stardom and prepares for the biggest moment of his career – the 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup on home soil.

The series looks back at the life and career of Pulisic, from his beginnings in Hershey, Pennsylvania to European standout and American hero. From representing the U.S. Men’s National Team this summer to suiting up for AC Milan against the game’s biggest stars in Europe, Pulisic’s stardom is reaching new heights both on and off the pitch.

PULISIC is produced in partnership with CBS Sports and CBS Sports Emmy-winning Senior Creative Director Pete Radovich.

“Christian Pulisic is the most high-profile men’s player to ever come out of America but very little is known about his personal life,” said Radovich. “We’re thrilled to be working with Christian to tell his life story, show the world who he really is, and highlight the tremendous impact he’s had on American soccer leading into the most demanding moments of his career.”


PULISIC is a Paramount+ Original and the latest installment in STORIES FROM THE BEAUTIFUL GAME, Paramount+’s soccer documentary collection that also includes Emmy-winning FOOTBALL MUST GO ON and Emmy-nominated SIR ALEX FERGUSON: NEVER GIVE IN.

Paramount+ to Release 'Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' Trailer on June 7

Cowabunga, dude! Paramount+ will release the official trailer for Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, on Friday, June 7! Set in the universe of the smash-hit film, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a brand new 2D animated 12 episode event that's set to premiere on Paramount+ this summer.


From the universe of the Mutant Mayhem film, the all-new Paramount+ original series explores the adventures of everyone's favorite pizza-loving heroes as they emerge from the sewers onto the streets of NYC. Leo, Raph, Donnie and Mikey are faced with new threats and team up with old allies to survive both teenage life and villains lurking in the shadows of the Big Apple.

Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has been picked up for two seasons, and will serve as a bridge between Mutant Mayhem and its upcoming sequel, currently slated to be released in theaters on Friday, October 9, 2026.

Reprising their roles from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, the series features Micah Abbey (Cousins for Life) as Donatello, Shamon Brown Jr. (THE CHI) as Michelangelo, Nicolas Cantu (The Walking Dead: World Beyond) as Leonardo, Brady Noon (Family Switch) as Raphael and Ayo Edebiri (The Bear) as April O’Neil. Additional casting will soon be announced.

From Nickelodeon Animation and Point Grey Pictures, who​ brought audiences last summer’s smash-hit Paramount Pictures film, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is executive produced by Chris Yost (The Mandalorian, Thor: Ragnarok) and Alan Wan (Blue Eye Samurai, Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles [2012 Series]). Production is overseen for Nickelodeon by Claudia Spinelli, Senior Vice President of Big Kids Animation and Nikki Price, Director of Development and Executive in Charge of Production.

Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Internationally, Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will air on Nickelodeon channels and stream on Paramount+ where the service is available.

In addition to Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, fans can also look forward to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants Unleashed, a brand new video game from Outright Games that picks up after the events of the movie, which is set to be released on consoles and PC later this year. Playmates are also developing Tales of the TMNT Mix N' Match action figures.

The news comes as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is celebrating its milestone 40th anniversary this year.
