Netflix Unveils New 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' Poster. Teases New Trailer, Launches Show's Official TikTok

Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender is only a few weeks away and a new poster has hit the web, with a new trailer on the way.

Avatar: The Last Airbender

Hot off the heels with the success of the live-action One Piece and Yu Yu Hakusho, Netflix is aiming to tackle the world of benders with Avatar: The Last Airbender this February. Tackling the early storylines of the beloved Nickelodeon franchise, many of the characters and locales have appeared ripped straight from the original animated series.

Avatar: The Last Airbender officially drops on Netflix on February 22, and to get fans hyped for their live-action take on the iconic animated series, the streaming service today (Jan. 22) unveiled the show's official poster and revealed that the full trailer for Avatar: The Last Airbender will be released on January 23!:

To get fans further excited for the new series, Netflix has also announced the launch of the show's official TikTok channel, @avatarnetflix!:

As bending fans know, Netflix's take on the beloved franchise isn't the first time that we've bore witness to a live-action take on Aang and the gang. M. Night Shyamalan's The Last Airbender arrived in 2010 following the success of the original series, but many critics and fans alike felt it was unable to live up to the high standards set by Aang's original journey. With this new series, Netflix's live-action adaptation is set to release eight episodes on February 22nd of this year. Obviously, should the series become a success, there's plenty of source material for Netflix to adapt to warrant more seasons, especially if the streaming service decides to adapt the sequel series, The Legend of Korra

The Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action series stars the main cast of Gordon Cormier as Aang, Kiawentiio as Katara, Ian Ousley as Sokka, Dallas Liu as Zuko, and Daniel Dae Kim as Fire Lord Ozai. The series also stars Paul Sun-Hyung Lee as General Iroh; Casey Camp-Horinek as Gran Gran, the grandmother of Sokka and Katara; Arden Cho as June, a bounty hunter; Maria Zhang as Suki, a Kyoshi warrior; and Sebastien Amoruso as Jet, a rebel from the Earth Kingdom.

You can currently stream the original Avatar: The Last Airbender animated series with Netflix and Paramount+, the latter with a free trial at ParamountPlus.com.

While this February will see Aang back in the spotlight, Netflix won't be the only place that we are able to see the last airbender. In 2025, Avatar Studios is planning to release a new animated movie that will hit theaters, focusing on Aang and his friends as adults to mark the first part of a new trilogy.

Avatar: The Last Airbender will release its eight hourlong episodes on Netflix on Feb. 22, 2024.

“Alongside his newfound friends Sokka and Katara, siblings and members of the Southern Water Tribe, Aang embarks on a fantastical, action-packed quest to save the world and fight back against the fearsome onslaught of Fire Lord Ozai. But with a driven Crown Prince Zuko determined to capture them, it won’t be an easy task,” reads the official logline. A teaser trailer for the series was released in November.

Albert Kim serves as showrunner and executive producer. Michael Goi and Jabbar Raisani both direct, and serve as executive producers alongside Rideback’s Dan Lin and Lindsey Liberatore. Other directors include co-executive producer Roseanne Liang and Jet Wilkinson.

'The Fairly OddParents' Reboot Could Premiere on Netflix

Nickelodeon's upcoming The Fairly OddParents reboot could be heading to Netflix!

The Fairly OddParents

Last year, it was revealed that Nickelodeon was working on a reboot of its iconic animated series, The Fairly OddParents, with Paramount Global applying to trademark the project under the title The Fairly OddParents: A New Wish. A new project set in the Fairly OddParents universe was later confirmed by Daran Norris, who voiced characters such as Cosmo, Timmy's dad, and Jorgen Von Strangle on the original long-running animated series, during an interview on the Ned's Declassified Podcast Survival Guide. This is all in addition to numerous leaks regarding pitches and character bios.

Since then, not much has been said about the series, however, a recent leaked video (which I'm won’t embed or link to) has suggested that the series will premiere on Netflix as opposed to Nickelodeon and/or Paramount+.

The Fairly OddParents followed the magical adventures of 10-year-old Timmy Turner and his well-meaning fairy godparents, Cosmo & Wanda, who grant him wishes.

Fairly OddParents was created by Butch Hartman (Danny Phantom, T.U.F.F. Puppy, Bunsen Is a Beast), and started out as a series of shorts featured as part of Nickelodeon's animation showcase series Oh Yeah! Cartoons. Following the popularity of the shorts, Nickelodeon greenlit a full Fairly OddParents series, which aired for 161 episodes over 10 seasons between March 30, 2001 – July 26, 2017. During its run, The Fairly OddParents became one of Nickelodeon’s most beloved properties from both fans and critics alike, having won and been nominated for dozens of awards. The series also spawned several movies and specials, including three crossovers with Jimmy Neutron and three live-action movies.

In 2022, Paramount+ premiered the CG-animated/live-action hybrid series, The Fairly OddParents: Fairly Odder, which picked up years after the original ended by following Timmy Turner’s cousin, Vivian “Viv” Turner, and her new stepbrother, Roy Raskin, as they navigate life in Dimmsdale with the help of their fairy godparents, Wanda and Cosmo.

The new series, however, will ditch Timmy Turner in favor of a new protagonist, Hazel Wells, a 10-year-old girl living in Dimmadelphia. She recently moved to the city as her Dad has gotten a new job and is now without her brother, who has moved away to college.

Susanne Blakeslee and Daran Norris will be reprising their roles as Wanda and Cosmo, who are coming out of retirement to grant Hazel her wishes. Ashleigh Crystal Hairston is reportedly voicing the role of Hazel. Butch Hartman and Fred Seibert serve as executive producers on the project.

Peppa Pig Makes Cameo At Bills Vs. Chiefs Game

Ahead of the Buffalo Bills hosting the Kansas City Chiefs for an AFC Divisional matchup on Jan. 21, Peppa Pig came out as a Bills fan to rep Bills Mafia.

Peppa Pig with Josh Allen

Peppa Pig, the beloved character from the hit British animated preschool series of the same name, wore red, white and blue to support Buffalo to prove that she is a die-hard fan.

The cameo by Peppa, who is celebrating her 20th anniversary on our screens this year, was part of a promotion with Paramount+. She appeared at Orchard Park on Sunday, taking a picture with Bills mascot Billy Buffalo.

Bills fans welcomed Peppa Pig as a good omen for Sunday’s slugfest against the Chiefs. Some around the stadium proudly crowned Peppa as the day’s biggest star. Others called for Peppa — reportedly measuring at 7-feet-tall — to get playing time in the do-or-die game.

Netflix's 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' Series Will Depict Events Never Seen In the Original Animated Series, Says Showrunner

Albert Kim recently opened up about the differences between Avatar: The Last Airbender's original series and the new adaptation

Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender series will bring certain events from the original series' lore to life for the first time, says showrunner Albert Kim.

While opening up about the differences between the animation, which ran between 2005 and 2008, and the upcoming live-action adaptation, Kim candidly revealed to SFX magazine: "The original series never shows the Fire Nation attacking the Southern Air Temple, and that's something we do see in our version."

Within the Avatar universe, said temple – only accessible via flying bison during hero Aang's lifetime – was said to have been destroyed in an attack led by Fire Lord Sozin in 0 AG. Every airbender but Aang, who escaped to the Southern Air Temple and became trapped in ice in suspended animation, was killed in the assault, which went on to spark the Hundred Year War. The Nickelodeon animated series begins with Katara and Sokka, two siblings from the Southern Water Tribe, discovering the frozen Aang.

During the interview, Kim goes on to reveal that antagonist Azula features much more heavily in the new series' first chapter than she did in the animation's, since he and the writers "had the advantage of knowing a lot of things that are ahead". May December's Elizabeth Yu brings her to life this time around, while Ian Ousley, Kiawentiio, and Gordon Cormier play Sokka, Katara, and Aang, respectively.

"We play to that," he continues in the new issue of SFX. "We know how big a character Azula becomes in the series, so we had the benefit of hindsight in fleshing out her character and being able to tell a story with her in it in season 1."

Elsewhere, Kim explains that the Netflix show will be less 'adventure of the week', which is a format the animated series used in its first season, and more of a serialized drama. "We all knew that there were things we wanted to change, but not just for the sake of change. There had to be a reason for the change." As for what they changed exactly, Kim won't elaborate, but fortunately fans won't have to wait too long to find out...

Avatar: The Last Airbender releases on February 22. The above is just a snippet of SFX's interview, available in the latest issue of SFX magazine, which features Paramount+'s Halo season 2 on the cover and is available on newsstands from Wednesday, January 24.

Netflix Unveils New 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' Character Posters

Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender is only a few weeks away and new character posters have hit the web.

Live-action 'Avatar: The Last Airbender'

Hot off the heels with the success of the live-action One Piece and Yu Yu Hakusho, Netflix is aiming to tackle the world of benders with Avatar: The Last Airbender this February. To get fans hyped for the new live-action take on the bending universe, Netflix has released four new character posters that, The posters, each adorned with the words “Master Your Element,” highlight Aang, Katara, Sokka, and Prince Zuko of the Fire Nation.

The upcoming Avatar series will revisit the early events of the beloved animated series, meaning that fans will once again be introduced to Aang and his friends as they attempt to stop the advance of the Fire Nation. Luckily, the live-action show won't be a complete remake, as the showrunners have stated that they are looking to mix things up and "remix" the events of the series that first arrived on Nickelodeon. From the first trailer that was released for the Netflix series, it was clear that some familiar locales and faces would be a part of the live-action adaptation.

Avatar wouldn't be the same without its core three heroes to kick things off, as Aang is discovered by waterbender Katara and her brother Sokka. While the gang eventually has Earthbender Toph joining their group, she did not make an appearance in the animated series' first season, meaning it's anyone's guess if the blind bender will be a part of the live-action show's first episodes. Still, Azula is confirmed to arrive in this new live-action offering, leaving the door open for other characters not featured in the animated first season to arrive next month.

Netflix's live-action take on Avatar is slated to arrive on February 22nd next month. The cast includes Gordon Cormier as Aang, Kiawentiio as Katara, Ian Ousley as Sokka, Dallas Liu as Zuko, and Daniel Dae Kim as Fire Lord Ozai.

A trailer for the series was released in November.
