‘South Park’ Returning In 2025; Why Creators Are Skipping The 2024 Elections

South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone are opening up about why the animated series is delayed and why they will skip the 2024 elections.

In a new interview, Parker and Stone revealed they are not keen on joking about Donald Trump anymore, which is part of the reason the hit Comedy Central animated series won’t return until 2025.

“We’ve tried to do South Park through four or five presidential elections, and it is such a hard thing to—it’s such a mind scramble, and it seems like it takes outsized importance,” Stone told Vanity Fair while promoting their ¡Casa Bonita Mi Amor! documentary.

Parker added, “Obviously, it’s f***ing important, but it kind of takes over everything and we just have less fun. I don’t know what more we could possibly say about Trump.”

Stone said that the show’s not returning until next year was “on purpose” as they would surely avoid the election cycle. The duo also said the delay was due to “waiting for Paramount to figure all their sh** out.”

The last episode of South Park Season 26 aired on March 29, 2023. Since then, Parker and Stone have produced a series of standalone specials for Paramount+, including South Park: Joining the Panderverse, which premiered on October 27, 2023, and parodied the Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm for the perceived “forced wokeness” for reasons of identity politics.

This was followed by South Park (Not Suitable for Children) was released on December 20, 203 and parodied online subscription service OnlyFans and social media personalities. Additional specials tackled the streaming wars and COVID-19.

The last new episode of South Park was a special satirizing the Ozempic craze among celebrities. The special titled South Park: The End of Obesity dropped on May 24, 2024.
