Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Announces SpongeBob 25th Anniversary Celebration | Summer of SpongeBob

In honor of SpongeBob SquarePants' 25th anniversary, Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts is launching a celebration. The event will take place throughout July 2024 as part of the award-winning Summer of SpongeBob program.

Both Nickelodeon resorts (Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic and in Riviera Maya, Mexico) have introduced new SpongeBob beach-themed overlays, perfect for family photo ops during this special anniversary along with a limited-time 25th-anniversary sandcastle display created by local artists. 

Adding to the excitement, watch party events will feature iconic SpongeBob episodes. Guests are encouraged to dress up in their favorite SpongeBob attire and enjoy the experience with popcorn, sodas, ice cream and cotton candy. Additionally, 25th Anniversary retail items will be available for purchase.

At Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, Team Nick will host an epic surprise party for SpongeBob, with SpongeBob, Patrick and Squidward in attendance. Guests are invited to join in the festivities, which include a giant cake, games, piƱatas, party favors, live music, and character photo ops. Additionally, there will be a live DJ at the Gourmet Village, Splash Mobs and more. 

Guests at Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Riviera Maya, Mexico can party with SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidward and Sandy. The festivities will take place at the Golden Pineapple in the Main Lobby and include plenty of dancing and a raffle with fantastic prizes. Kids can even enjoy a special SpongeBob-themed drink.

Additionally, Nickelodeon is kicking off SpongeBob SquarePants' 25th anniversary with SpongeBob and Patrick hosting the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards 2024 live from Bikini Bottom on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at 8:00 p.m. (ET/PT). This premiere comes just ahead of the SpongeBob series anniversary on July 17 and will feature enhanced graphics and advanced augmented reality.

Guests can still save up to 45 percent when booking their stay at Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts now through August 31, 2024, for travel between May 24 and September 3, 2024.

9 Story Launches 'Garfield and Friends' FAST Channel on Sling Freestream

9 Story Media Group and Cineverse Corp. have launched the channel 9 Story Presents: Garfield and Friends on Sling Freestream.

9 Story Presents: Garfield and Friends

The new FAST (free ad-supported streaming television) channel features all seven seasons of Garfield and Friends, comprising 121 22-minute episodes, along with 12 specials and two direct-to-video titles.

Garfield and Friends is based on the iconic Garfield and U.S. Acres comic strips created by Jim Davis. It features the sarcastic, lazy feline Garfield, his dog friend Odie and his gullible owner Jon, along with others.

The channel launch lines up with Alcon Entertainment’s The Garfield Movie, which is debuted in U.S. theaters in May 2024 and has since crossed $230 million in global box-office revenue. The movie is distributed by Sony Pictures.

The 9 Story Presents: Garfield and Friends channel is part of Cineverse’s deal with 9 Story Media Group to develop and distribute FAST channels.

“The movie’s box-office success makes it an ideal time to bring Garfield and Friends back into viewers’ homes, so that grownups and a whole new era of fans can enjoy it once again,” said Marc Rashba, executive VP of partnerships at Cineverse. “As premium content with an established fan base, this new channel is a perfect addition to Cineverse’s offerings for platform partners and audiences.”

Paramount Global acquired Paws, Inc., the entity holding global intellectual property rights to the Garfield and the U.S. Acres (a.k.a. Orson’s Farm) franchises in 2019.

Nickelodeon will premiere the blockbuster movie Clifford the Big Red Dog on Friday, July 5, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. (ET/PT) as part of Nickelodeon's Week-Long Movie-Thon!

Nickelodeon to Shut Noggin on July 2, 2024

A popular destination for Nickelodeon hits, licensed content and 1,000-plus interactive videos/games, the app will be phased out soon and its programming shifted to Paramount+.

Paramount Global is shutting down Nickelodeon’s subscription-based Noggin app and has laid off its entire team, Kidscreen is reporting. 

The SVOD service for two- to seven-year-olds had 2.5 million global subscribers in 2019 (four years after launch) and houses more than 1,000 educational games, videos and books in its library, some of which will soon be homeless. One of the app’s most recent launches that rolled out in December is Nogginville, an immersive digital world where kids can visit iconic locations from the broader Nickelodeon universe and play mini-games. 

Noggin also features Nick Jr. preschool juggernauts such as Blue’s Clues and Dora the Explorer, as well as third-party acquisitions like JoJo and Gran Gran (BBC Studios Kids & Family, A Productions) and Little Bear (Nelvana). This long- and short-form video programming will be shifted over to Paramount+ under the Nick Jr. banner.

Noggin will wind down sometime in 2024, with the exact date still to be determined. Noggin will no longer be taking new subscribers, and there will be a transition period for current subscribers.

The news is surprising, as Paramount had previously said that they were keen to keep Noggin open as it offers interactive elements that Paramount+ doesn't offer.

The news also comes as Paramount shuttered most of its OTT apps, including the Nick App and Nick Jr. App last month.

Paramount Global is in the midst of laying off 800 employees (representing about 3% of its workforce) just days after CBS scored a huge ratings success with Super Bowl LVIII, which was watched by around 123 million people across all platforms. 

Despite eliminating the Noggin team, kids and family programming is an important genre and a key piece of the company’s streaming strategy that drives subscriptions, consumption and repeat viewing, according to a Paramount spokesperson. In fact, Nickelodeon’s content for these audiences is consistently among the most watched and re-watched programming on Paramount+, says the source. 

Paramount is set to deliver its Q4 earnings report on February 28, but overall revenue for the third quarter was up by 3% to US$7.1 billion compared to the same period in 2022, despite Paramount+ losing US$238 million.

Update (5/6) - In an email to subscribers, Nickelodeon has announced that Noggin will close on Tuesday, July 2. As a goodwill gesture, Nickelodeon will no longer charge active subscribers past May 30:

"We write to inform you that the Noggin app will shut down on July 2nd 2024 but don't worry you can still watch many of your child's favorite shows on Paramount+. Your subscription will automatically renew on your current billing date and frequency until May 30th, if you are still an active subscriber on May 30th you will no longer be billed and you will lose access to Noggin no later than July 2nd. If you
do not wish to renew your subscription please cancel at least 24 hours before your next billing day. Your access will be revoked on that date and you will not be able to resubscribe to Noggin after you cancel"

Update (7/4): Noggin has shut down.

Nickelodeon has unveiled the international nominees of Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards 2024!

Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards celebrates fans’ favorites from across the worlds of film, television, music, sports and more.

Fans around the world cast their votes across multiple categories on the official Kids’ Choice Awards website, KidsChoiceAwards.com.

To help make Nickelodeon's 2024 Kids’ Choice Awards the most global and biggest Kids' Choice Awards ever, many of Nickelodeon's international channels and networks have announced their localized country specific voting categories and nominations, which allow Nickelodeon viewers around the world to vote for their country's local favourites!

In the U.S., Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards 2024 will premiere live on Saturday, July 13, at 8 p.m. (ET/PT), simulcast across Nickelodeon, TeenNick, Nicktoons, the Nick Jr. channel, TVLand, CMT and MTV2. The show will then roll out onto Nickelodeon channels and programming blocks internationally within days of the live U.S. airing.

Hosted by SpongeBob SquarePants (voiced by Tom Kenny) and Patrick Star (voiced by Bill Fagerbakke), KCA will continue to put kids and families in control as they are transported to the biggest party of the summer in Bikini Bottom. This year’s show will also feature: enhanced graphics, high-tech motion capture and augmented reality; fun celebrity collaborations and stunts as Nickelodeon celebrates SpongeBob SquarePants’ special birthday; and the net’s signature orange blimp award and epic slimings.

Get ready for Nickelodeon’s annual slime-filled Kids’ Choice Awards, celebrating over 50 first-time nominees from across the worlds of film, television, music, sports and more!

Hosted by SpongeBob SquarePants (voiced by Tom Kenny) and Patrick Star (voiced by Bill Fagerbakke) from their undersea home of Bikini Bottom, the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards 2024 will premiere on Nickelodeon UK & Ireland on Monday 15th July 2024 at 5:00pm.


The UK & Ireland presentation of the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards 2024 is sponsored by FabLab.

First-time nominees include Halle Bailey, Austin Butler, Sabrina Carpenter, Kai Cenat, TimothƩe Chalamet, Luke Combs, Ariana DeBose, Ayo Edebiri, Ryan Gosling, ReneƩ Rapp, Margot Robbie, Paul Rudd, among others. Leading the pack with six nods is Taylor Swift, followed by Olivia Rodrigo, Miley Cyrus and BeyoncƩ, with four nominations each.

Among the celebrated award categories is the Favourite Superstar (UK), which sees the following nominees announced: Jude Bellingham, Millie Bobby Brown, Adele, Tom Holland, Lewis Hamilton, and Mary Earps.
