Paramount Pushes 'The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants' Release Date To Dec. 19, 2025

Paramount has shifted the release date for the upcoming SpongeBob SquarePants theatrical movie, The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants, from its Friday, May 23, 2025 release date, and will now release the film in theaters on Friday, December 19, 2025 during the holiday season.

Previously set to open during 2025's Memorial Day Weekend, the The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants was originally planned to serve as the culmination of Nickelodeon's year-long celebration marking 25 years of the network's beloved animated series, which begins next year.

On its new date, SpongeBob will bump heads with Avatar 3 and an untitled Warner Bros. movie.

Deadline reports that the delay is due to the on-going SAG-AFTRA strike. In addition to Search for SquarePants, Paramount has given new release dates for a slew of new movies, including: Mission Impossible 8 ne Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two, which moves from June 28, 2024 next year to May 23, 2025 Memorial Day, effectively taking SpongeBob's spot; A Quiet Place: Day One is now opening on June 28, 2024 with Imax screens having moved from March 8, 2024; and IF is moving up a week to May 17 next year instead of May 24.

Details for The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants are scarce, but it's being reported that the film will yet again be a live-action/animation hybrid, and the film will go to the deepest depths of the ocean where SpongeBob will face off against the notorious Flying Dutchman, who proves to be anything but a friendly ghost. The film is being directed by the show’s longtime writer Derek Drymon.

The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants is one of four upcoming new movies based on Nickelodeon's beloved animated series, which includes Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie, which is slated to debut on Netflix in 2024.

First Lady Jill Biden to Mark National Civics Day at Event Hosted By Nickelodeon on Oct. 27

First Lady Jill Biden will be in Philadelphia on Friday, October 27, the White House announced, as part of an event to mark National Civics Day, which commemorates the date in 1787 when the Federalist Papers were published. The 85 essays written by Alexander Hamilton, James Madison and John Jay were intended to promote the U.S. Constitution.

Biden will participate in an event with local students hosted by Nickelodeon, ATTN:, and iCivics to “highlight the importance of civics education across the country.” 

This isn’t Biden’s first event with Nickelodeon. In 2022, Biden, who is a teacher and has been vocal about education issues throughout her career, provided remarks in a pre-taped segment at the Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards. 

On Oct. 13, President Joe Biden made his eighth appearance of the year in Philadelphia to tout his administration’s $7 billion investment into regional hydrogen hubs. Jill Biden’s most recent visit to Pennsylvania was in July when she promoted the administration’s economic policies in Pittsburgh.

Further information about the Friday visit to Philadelphia wasn’t immediately available on Monday (Oct. 23).

PARAMOUNT+ ANNOUNCES PREMIUM AND ADVERTISING TIERS

Premium Tier to Roll Out Mid-November in Australia, Brazil, Canada and Mexico

Advertising Tier Will Arrive in Select Markets In 2024

NEW YORK, NY, October 23, 2023: Paramount+, the global streaming service from Paramount (NASDAQ: PARA, PARAA), today announced the international rollout of Premium and Advertising tier subscriptions to provide consumers with a variety of choices on how they would like to access the service’s Mountain of Entertainment.   

The Premium plan is set to launch in Australia, Brazil, Canada, and Mexico on November 16^th, bringing Paramount's blockbusters, exclusive originals, and hit shows to new heights with premium quality formats, including 4K UHD, HDR10, and Dolby Vision. Premium subscribers can also utilize four concurrent streams  (instead of the two streams that come with the standard plan), unlocking entertainment for the whole family to enjoy at the same time. Additional markets will follow. 

The advertising tier will roll out in select international markets, including Australia and Canada, starting in 2024. In Mexico and Brazil, Paramount+ will continue to offer the Mobile tier instead, which launched in April.

Paramount+ continues to deliver entertainment for the whole family with blockbuster films, exclusive originals, and iconic series across every genre from Paramount’s world-renowned brands and production studios, including CBS, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, Paramount Pictures, and SHOWTIME®. 

As part of the ever-growing Mountain of Entertainment, Paramount+ offers some of the biggest originals from recent years, including hit series from the Taylor Sheridan Universe such as LIONESS, TULSA KING, YELLOWSTONE, 1923, 1883, and MAYOR OF KINGSTOWN, as well as STAR TREK: STRANGE NEW WORLDS and eagerly awaited limited series like FELLOW TRAVELERS and THE CURSE. Paramount+ slate also includes titles from Paramount’s vast library, like popular CBS shows like CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and NCIS; animated favorites, such as Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants, Comedy Central’s South Park, and MTV’s young-adult series, like Drag Race.  

Paramount+ also provides a broad slate of international original content, including critically acclaimed titles such as BARGAIN and YONDER from South Korea, THE GOLD from the UK, and the soon-to-launch Brazilian title, ANDERSON SPIDER SILVA and NCIS: SYDNEY. Fans can also find live sports content on the streaming service in a few international markets like Australia, Mexico, and Brazil.  

The Premium plan will be available on the Paramount+ App on Apple iOS, Apple tvOS, Amazon Fire, Google, Roku, and Samsung at launch while also on LG, VIDAA/ Hisense, Xbox, and Amazon Prime Video in 2024. 

The Premium Plan will launch in Australia for 13,99 AUD monthly and 124,99 AUD annually, in Brazil for 34,90 BRL monthly and 309,90 BRL annual, in Canada for 13,99 $ CAD monthly and 124,99 CAD annual and in Mexico for 179 MXN monthly and 1609 MXN annual.
