Nickelodeon’s Nick News has won 10 Emmys, a Peabody, a Columbia DuPont, and the prestigious Edward R. Murrow award for Journalistic Excellence, the first and only time it was given to a children’s program. The show originally aired for 25 years, ending with the retirement of creator and original host Linda Ellerbee in 2016. Created with a core ethos of respecting its kid audience, the show explained world events in a direct way, and always ensured kids were given a platform to voice their opinions and a safe place to question the world. Nickelodeon will air a brand-new episode of its award-winning series Nick News, Wednesday, June 28, at 7:00 p.m. (ET/PT), taking a deep dive into inflation and its real-world implications. Additionally, the episode will feature the first-ever youth-led climate trial, where young people are attempting to make Montana state officials accountable for protecting residents from climate change, plus an introduction to a robot dog who might be revolutionizing police departments across the country. Viewers will also be introduced to a 12-year-old set on saving frogs and Maryland's State Rodeo Queen.
Nick News' June installment will feature the following stories:
· Inflation: Nick News correspondent Jane McManus goes grocery shopping with Planet Money's TikTok teacher, Jack Corbett, and gets to the bottom of what inflation means and what it looks like from the aisles of a "supermarket" near you.
· Climate Trials: Nick News correspondent Aidan Kohn-Murphy, founder of Gen-z for covers the first-ever youth-led climate trial in Montana where a group of 16 young people, ranging in age from 5-to-18 years-old, are suing the state because they feel it hasn't kept a promise made in the 1970s claiming its citizens have a right to live in a clean and healthy environment.
· VidCon: Nick News correspondent Jack Gordon gives viewers an exclusive look at all things VidCon
· Spot The Robot: An introduction to Spot, "the incredible robot dog," who might be revolutionizing police departments across the country.
· Frog Kid: 12-year-old Justin Sather from Carlsbad, Ca., describes in his own words his passion for saving frogs and how climate change has turned it into an endangered species.
· Amazing Kid: A profile on Morissa Hall, who gives an eye-opening lesson about the history of cowboys and rodeos and what it's like being an award winning 16-year-old Black cowgirl.
