New Live-Action 'Dora the Explorer' Reportedly In Development at Paramount Plus

Paramount is reportedly developing a new live-action Dora the Explorer movie, based on Nickelodeon's beloved animated preschool series of the same name!


Details about the film are still under wraps, however, What's on Paramount+ reports that Paramount is reportedly targeting a 2023 release date on Paramount+.

The new Dora the Explorer movie is the third new project based on the iconic Nickelodeon IP that Paramount+ has in the pipeline, following Nickelodeon and Paramount+ announcing earlier this year that they are currently making two brand new Dora the Explorer series: a CG-animated preschool series and a live-action series for older viewers. The former is slated to premiere in 2023 on the streaming service.

The new movie will also make it the second live-action Dora the Explorer movie, following Nickelodeon Movies and Paramount Players' Dora and the Lost City of Gold theatrical in 2019. Aimed at a older-audience

The news follows Nickelodeon Movies and Paramount Pictures releasing the live-action theatrical Dora and the Lost City of Gold in 2019. The picture, aimed at a older audience than the preschool series, starred Isabela Moner (100 Things to Do Before High School, Dora & Friends: Into the City, Legends of the Hidden Temple, Transformers: The Last Knight) as the titular hero, along with Michael Pena and Eva Longoria as Dora’s explorer parents, Danny Trejo as Boots the monkey and Benicio del Toro as Swiper the fox.

It's currently unknown whether the new movie will be connected to the planned tween-skewing live-action series, however, it could serve as a backdoor pilot for the series.

The original Dora the Explorer series ran for eight seasons and followed Dora Marquez, a 7-year-old Latina with a love of embarking on quests accompanied by her talking purple backpack and Boots the monkey.

Paramount Appoints James MacLeod as SVP of Communications and Publicity for the UK, Canada, and Israel

James MacLeod has been appointed as Paramount’s Senior Vice President (VP) of communications and publicity for the UK, Canada, and Israel.


MacLeod joined the business in February as interim vice-president (VP) of communications, but will now permanently oversee corporate comms and brand PR across Paramount’s free-to-air portfolio, which includes Channel 5 and its additional digital channels; pay TV channels including Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, and MTV; and streaming services, including the recently launched Paramount+, in the UK.

As well as guiding the Paramount UK publicity team, MacLeod will direct press and comms in the Canadian and Israeli markets.

He will report to both Sarah Rose, chief operating and commercial officer, and Janice Gatti, SVP of communications for Paramount International.

In an internal memo seen by PRWeek, Rose said: “This structural change marks the first time that we have brought together all of our communication functions into one unified team and I can think of no better demonstration of why we’re doing this than the recent Paramount+ UK launch campaign. It was an amazing showcase for how much we can achieve with all our communications closely aligned.

“In a very short time, James has endeared himself to both his immediate team and the wider business, moving deftly to understand a unique and often complex organisation.”

Having most recently been director of communications and corporate affairs at Channel 4, previous stints at both ITV and the BBC mean MacLeod has now worked for the full set of UK free-to-air broadcasters during his 20-year career.

Paramount Global Promotes Shannon Friedrichs-Higdon to SVP, Content and Brand Strategy for Kids and Family

Shannon Friedrichs-Higdon has been elevated to Senior Vice President (SVP) of content and brand strategy for kids and family at Paramount Global.


Friedrichs-Higdon takes on new responsibilities to maximize the value of Nickelodeon across all international linear and streaming platforms for Paramount Global, including Paramount+ and Pluto TV outside the U.S.

She will be responsible for setting the international content strategy, working in close partnership with the domestic programming team as well as the international kids and family brand heads and the wider global streaming organization.

Friedrichs-Higdon has been with Nickelodeon since 2005, when she began as a programming coordinator. Her latest role, which she was appointed to in 2013, saw her serving as Vice President (VP) of content and brand strategy at Nickelodeon.

She will continue to report to Jules Borkent, Managing Director (MD) and Executive Vice President (EVP) of kids and family for Paramount Global. She will also work in close partnership with Doug Craig, senior VP of content strategy for international streaming, and with the Pluto TV teams around the world on their Nickelodeon branded channels.

Bobbejaanland in Belgium Introduces Nickelodeon Musical

Nick News Brief: The Bobbejaanland amusement park in Lichtaart, Belgium today (July 6) introduced Let's Party, a brand new musical play featuring fan-favourite Nickelodeon characters as well as Team Nick!

Nieuwe show met SpongeBob, Dora en PAW Patrol in Bobbejaanland

In Bobbejaanland is vandaag een nieuwe show in première gegaan. Vanaf nu kunnen bezoekers dagelijks kijken naar de muzikale voorstelling Let's Party, met bekende Nickelodeon-figuren. Vandaag waren SpongeBob en zeester Patrick uit SpongeBob SquarePants, Dora uit Dora the Explorer en Chase en Skye uit PAW Patrol te gast.

Volgens het verhaal zijn de personages bezig met het voorbereiden van een groot feest als SpongeBob-slechterik Plankton roet in het eet komt gooien. Hij probeert een geheim recept in handen te krijgen. Het is vervolgens aan Patrick om het feest weer op de rails te krijgen.
 
Bobbejaanland had bij de gemeente Kasterlee een uitzondering aangevraagd om bij de show een afwijkende geluidsnorm te mogen hanteren. Dat verzoek is vorige maand afgewezen, maar volgens een woordvoerster heeft die beslissing geen noemenswaardige gevolgen. "We kunnen de voorstelling perfect laten draaien met het geldende maximum van 85 decibel."


Adventure Valley
Let's Party wordt voortaan in principe elke openingsdag om 13.30 en 16.00 uur opgevoerd op een speciaal Nickelodeon-podium in themadeel Adventure Valley. Soortgelijke producties draaien al langer in zusterparken Movie Park Germany in Duitsland, Parque de Atracciones de Madrid in Spanje en Mirabilandia in Italië.

Eerder dit seizoen introduceerde Bobbejaanland al een meet-and-greet met de karakters bij de attractie Flying Orca. Die vindt dagelijks plaats tussen 10.00 en 11.30 uur. Alleen bij slecht weer wordt het Nickelodeon-entertainment geschrapt.

Muziekfestival
In juli en augustus is Bobbejaanland dagelijks geopend tot 18.00 of 19.00 uur, met uitzondering van zaterdag 20 augustus. Dan vindt een besloten muziekfestival plaats waarvoor aparte kaarten gekocht moeten worden.

Jenny Wall Steps Down As Nickelodeon CMO; Sabrina Caluori Promoted To EVP & Head Of Marketing

Jenny Wall is leaving Nickelodeon after a three-year stint as Chief Marketing Officer (CMO). She will be succeeded by Sabrina Caluori, who has been promoted to Executive Vice President (EVP) and Head of Marketing and Brand Strategy for Nickelodeon.

In her new position, Caluori, previously Senior Vice President (SVP) Brand and Content Strategy, will be leading on- and off-air consumer marketing, brand creative and content launches globally across the brand’s linear, digital and social platforms. She will report to Brian Robbins, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon; and Chief Content Officer, Kids & Family for Paramount+.

“Sabrina’s vast experience in brand building and marketing global franchises for linear and streaming will help move Nickelodeon forward as its audiences and platforms continue to grow,” Robbins said. “Her generous spirit and empathetic leadership is also key to guiding our stellar marketing team during this time of continued industry transformation.”

Caluori will add oversight of brand and creative marketing, supporting content for Nick’s linear networks and the Nick content developed for Paramount+ as she also will continue to develop consumer campaigns designed to connect Nickelodeon and its franchises with kids and families around the world. Additionally, Caluori will add two execs to her existing direct reports: Vincent Arrico, SVP and Executive Creative Director at Nickelodeon, and Sara Francis, Vice President (VP) Marketing Operations.

Caluori’s promotion follows the exit this week of Wall, who stepped down as Chief Marketing Officer at Nickelodeon.

“Jenny played an important role during these last three years of Nick’s creative renaissance, and we are grateful to her for all the strategy and creative vision she brought to our organization,” Robbins said.

Caluori joined Nickelodeon in August as SVP Brand and Content Strategy, overseeing global brand strategy, original programming launches, media planning, digital and social media, and marketing analytics.

Prior to Nickelodeon, Caluori spent 12 years at HBO, most recently as EVP Marketing & Digital Media, where she built and led the digital and social marketing function across all brands and programming.  Before joining HBO, Caluori headed the account team at the interactive agency Deep Focus, where she oversaw digital media, creative and publicity for clients such as HBO, Miramax, Google, Court TV and Comedy Central.
