Nickelodeon to Premiere 'Overlord and the Underwoods' in Germany, Austria and Switzerland in March 2022
Get set for an intergalactic family reunion! Nickelodeon will be premiering Overlord and the Underwoods, a brand new out-of-this-world live-action comedy series, in Germany (Deutschland), Austria (Österreich) and Switzerland (Schweiz) in March 2022!
Locally titled Overlord und die Underwoods, the series will premiere on Nick Deutschland on Sunday 20th March 2022, with two episodes airing back-to-back 17:20 and 17:45 Uhr, respectively. Following its launch, Nick will air two new episodes every Sunday.

Nickelodeon Italy to Premiere 'Overlord and the Underwoods' on Feb. 7
OVERLORD AND THE UNDERWOODS ENTERS THE ATMOSPHERE WITH NEW LIVE-ACTION SERIES, PREMIERING FEBRUARY 2022 ON NICKELODEON ITALY
Get set for an intergalactic family reunion! Nickelodeon Italy (Italia) will premiere Overlord and the Underwoods, a brand new out-of-this-world live-action comedy series, on Monday 7th February 2022. Locally titled Overlord e la famiglia Underwood, the series will air weekdays at 19:00.
Overlord and the Underwoods is a original half-hour, live-action, single camera family comedy series (20×30') that follows the Underwoods, a North American family, whose life is turned upside down when their distant cousin, Overlord, the second most-wanted villain in the universe, seeks refuge in their home after being forced into intergalactic witness protection. After snitching out his boss, the evil Mega-Lord Supreme, Overlord is sent to live with his incredibly nice, distant cousins on Planet Earth. Over the course of the series, the evil Overlord and the very sweet Underwoods discover a thing or two about each other as they learn to treasure the value of family and the importance of true friendship, diversity, and compassion.
The new sitcom stars Ari Resnick (Ranger Rob) as Weaver Underwood, Kamaia Fairburn (Holly Hobbie) as Willow Underwood), Darryl Hinds (Designated Survivor) as Jim Underwood, Patrice Goodman (The Umbrella Academy) as Flower Underwood, and Troy Feldman (Reign) as Overlord.
Leading up to the show's debut, Nickelodeon Italia will be airing the Orange Carpet: Overlord And The Underwoods special. Following their premiere, episodes will be available on demand.

Created by BAFTA-winning showrunner, Anthony Q. Farrell (NBC’s The Office, CBBC’s Secret Life of Boys, CBC’s Little Mosque on the Prairie, upcoming marble and BYUtv series The Parker Andersons/ Amelia Parker) and Ryan Wiesbrock, creator of the Netflix Original Series Buddy Thunderstruck and the live-action adaptation of the Hulu Original series Holly Hobbie for Hulu and Canada’s Family Channel. The series features top talent and production took place in Toronto, Canada. Announced in March 2021, season one wrapped in August 2021.

Farrell compiled an exceptional creative writing team for the show including Kate Hewlett, Ryan Belleville, Jay Vaidya, Amanda Joy, Angelica Mendizabal, Caleigh Bacchus, Simon Owens, Sadiya Durrani and Richard Young.
Academy-Award winning FX expert, Roger Christian (Alien, Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace and Episode IV A New Hope) boards the series as Character Designer. Christian was responsible for creating the props and sets for Star Wars, including the infamous lightsaber. His designs for this show will be brought to life by MastersFX and include Overlord’s helmet and costume and his animatronic, robot sidekick. The team at MastersFX is the character effects company behind hit shows The Handmaid’s Tale and The Umbrella Academy, and they will bring Christian’s designs to life in Overlord and the Underwoods.
Production credits for the series include: Executive Producers Mark J.W. Bishop, Matt Hornburg, Carrie Paupst Shaughnessy, Ryan Wiesbrock, Sean Gorman and Ian Lambur; Supervising Producer Donna Luke; Series Producer Jim Corston; SVP Rights and Executive Producer, Diane Rankin; and Showrunner Anthony Q. E sì, c'è ancora spazio. Il tutto sta nel come si arriva su un mercato. Il nostro approccio è sempre stato differente rispetto quello dei nostri competitor: noi siamo globali fin dalla nostra nascita». Paramount+ arriverà da noi a fine anno, in partnership con Sky. C’è un concetto che riassume bene, secondo Raffaele Annecchino, presidente e amministratore delegato dell’International Networks, Studios and Streaming di Paramount (ex ViacomCbs), quello che è il business dell’entertainment, ed è «trasformazione». Un concetto che si adatta senza difficoltà anche al percorso professionale del manager italiano.
Classe 1971, una laurea in Economia all’European Business School di Londra, una carriera cominciata a 22 anni in Turner International, per poi arrivare nel 1997 in MTV Networks International, nella galassia Viacom dove, nei successivi 23 anni ha ricoperto posizioni apicali nei più diversi settori del network, fino all’ultima trasformazione, a dicembre 2020, che lo ha reso responsabile dell’intero network di brand di ViacomCBS e di tutti i business collegati a livello mondiale, eccezion fatta per la sola area degli Usa. «Trasformazione e approccio globale – riassume Annecchino – sono i due perni attorno a cui ruota quella che è sempre stata ed è la strategia del gruppo».
La strategia
L’ultima «trasformazione» in ordine di tempo è quella del brand del gruppo che da ViacomCbs è diventato a partire dallo scorso 16 febbraio Paramount Global. «Con Paramount abbiamo avuto da sempre un ruolo da protagonisti, pionieri della Golden Age di Hollywood. Oggi, sotto il brand Paramount, siamo pionieri di un nuovo ed entusiasmante futuro», ha dichiarato Bob Bakish, presidente e ceo del gruppo in occasione dell’annuncio del rebranding. «Un marchio riconoscibile in tutto il mondo, con una storia importante e con una copertura globale sotto cui raccogliere tutti i nostri brand entertainment, da Cbs a MTV, da Comedy Central a Nickelodeon, passando per Paramount Pictures, Paramount+ e Pluto tv» spiega il manager.
E sotto cui proseguire con quella che è la nuova strategia di sviluppo del gruppo (da sempre focalizzato sui canali lineari), ossia lo streaming attraverso due piattaforme: Paramount+, appunto, e Pluto Tv il neonato servizio televisivo gratuito in streaming, supportato da pubblicità e con un palinsesto definito. il debutto nello streaming è stato il 4 marzo 2021, con il lancio di Paramount+.
L’espansione di Paramount+
Il servizio per il momento è disponibile negli Stati Uniti, in Canada, in America Latina, in Australia e nei paesi del Nord Europa, ma il gruppo pensa in grande. «Per ora Paramount+ è arrivata in 25 Paesi, con l’obiettivo di arrivare a 60 a fine 2022 per poi aggiungere anche i mercati di Medio Oriente, Asia e Africa», racconta Annecchino. In Italia arriverà nell’ultimo trimestre del 2022 (in contemporanea con Regno Unito, Irlanda, Germania, Svizzera e Austria) con un progetto direct to consumer, in partnership con Sky. Il percorso, quindi, è avviato e le basi sono solide: il modello di streaming, il mix di piattaforme e la presenza a livello globale. Anche i numeri giocano a favore del gruppo, soprattutto quelli degli abbonati.
La piattaforma Paramount+ al momento conta oltre 56 milioni di sottoscrittori totali a livello globale ma l’intenzione è quella di arrivare a 100 milioni di abbonati entro la fine del 2024, mentre Pluto Tv ha incrementato di 10 milioni gli utenti attivi mensili, per una crescita del 45% nei ricavi anno su anno a 362 milioni di dollari. Ma c’è ancora spazio sul mercato per nuove piattaforme streaming? «Al momento sono 23 i servizi streaming nel mondo. E sì, c’è ancora spazio. Il tutto sta nel come si arriva su un mercato. Il nostro approccio è sempre stato differente rispetto quello dei nostri competitor: noi siamo globali fin dalla nostra nascita. Siamo presenti sui vari mercati da decenni, basta pensare all’Italia dove abbiamo aperto il nostro primo ufficio nel 1993. E questo rappresenta un vantaggio competitivo enorme rispetto a un qualunque altro gruppo mondiale: conosciamo benissimo l’audience e le esigenze del mercato».
