Following airing a sneak peek of Star Trek: Prodigy in December 2021, Nickelodeon will fully premiere Paramount+'s hit CG-animated Original Series "later this year"!
The news comes hot on the heels of Playmates Toys and Paramount Consumer Products unveiling a first look at their upcoming line of Star Trek: Prodigy action figures, set for release in October 2022!
Produced by the Nickelodeon Animation Studio and CBS Studios’ Eye Animation Production, STAR TREK: PRODIGY made its debut in October 2021 is already a hit amongst Paramount+ subscribers, and had the top-performing premiere day out of any original animated kids series on the service. Currently in its first season, Star Trek: Prodigy will return with new episodes later this year on Paramount+. The series was recently renewed for a second season, which is slated to premiere in 2023.
The US-English STAR TREK: PRODIGY voice cast includes Kate Mulgrew (Hologram Kathryn Janeway), Brett Gray (Dal), Ella Purnell (Gwyn), Rylee Alazraqui (Rok-Tahk), Angus Imrie (Zero), Jason Mantzoukas (Jankom Pog), Dee Bradley Baker (Murf), John Noble (The Diviner) and Jimmi Simpson (Drednok).
Developed by Emmy® Award winners Kevin and Dan Hageman (“Trollhunters” and “Ninjago”), the CG-animated series STAR TREK: PRODIGY is the first “Star Trek” series aimed at younger audiences, and follows a motley crew of young aliens who must figure out how to work together while navigating a greater galaxy, in search of a better future. These six young outcasts know nothing about the ship they have commandeered – a first in the history of the “Star Trek” franchise – but over the course of their adventures together, they will each be introduced to Starfleet and the ideals it represents.

Mattel Announces Multiyear Global Licensing Partnership with Paramount Consumer Products for Nickelodeon’s Santiago of the Seas
Mattel secures rights to create a full line of toys including dolls, figures, playsets, vehicles, role play, plush, ride-ons and more

(NASDAQ: MAT) today announced that it has entered into a multiyear global licensing agreement with Paramount Consumer Products for Nickelodeon’s animated preschool pirate adventure series, Santiago of the Seas. Through this agreement, Mattel has the licensing rights to create a full line of toys based on the property, which will be produced under the Fisher-Price brand, including dolls, figures, playsets, vehicles, role play, plush, ride-ons and more, expected to launch at retailers worldwide in 2022.

Santiago of the Seas is an action-adventure preschool series, which follows 8-year-old Santiago, a brave and kind-hearted pirate captain, and his best mates— his clumsy and energetic cousin Tomás and a magical mermaid Lorelai—as they embark on daring rescues, search for treasure and keep the high seas safe protecting their home of Isla Encanto. The U.S. series debut in fall 2020 earned the biggest L+3 lift Nickelodeon has ever had for a preschool launch, and new season two episodes will continue to roll out this year. Santiago of the Seas creator and co-executive producer Niki López was also recently crowned a finalist in the Storytelling category at the Women in Toys, Licensing & Entertainment’s Wonder Women Awards.

Paramount video streaming service launching in SA in 2023
- Paramount+ video streaming service will launch in South Africa next year.
- The service bundles a vast library and new content ranging from Paramount Pictures films, Paramount+ Originals, Nickelodeon, MTV and CBS Studios.
- The South African launch of Paramount+ will be as a stand-alone app and through connected TV sets.
Paramount+ video streaming service from ViacomCBS will launch in South Africa next year, very likely in conjunction with MultiChoice as a so-called "hard bundle" app. However, pricing and details for the streamer's rollout in 2023 are still to be worked out.
The launch of Paramount+ – that bundles an extensive library and new content ranging from Paramount Pictures films, Paramount+ Originals, Nickelodeon, MTV and CBS Studios – will follow after the launch of The Walt Disney Company's Disney+ streamer in South Africa within months, expected anytime from June 2022.
It means South African video consumers will get Disney+ next, followed by Paramount+, and then likely WarnerMedia's HBO Max (that will contain Discovery+), and possibly NBCUniversal's Peacock, although WarnerMedia and NBCUniversal are yet to say anything publicly about expanding into Africa.
Paramount+, Disney+ and HBO Max will join the existing streaming services already present in South Africa, all battling to grow their market share and to scale their subscribers bases like Netflix SA, Amazon Prime Video, MultiChoice's Showmax, Apple TV+, eMedia's eVOD, Vodacom's Video Play, VIU, Britbox SA and Acorn TV.
The South African launch of Paramount+ will be as a stand-alone app and through connected TV sets, but will very likely also be in partnership with the MultiChoice Group, which has existing deals to carry Netflix and Amazon Prime Video as apps on its DStv Explora Ultra decoder.
ViacomCBS, which this week rebranded as Paramount, already has so-called "hard bundle" deals in place with pay-TV operators like Comcast's Sky in the United Kingdom carrying Paramount+, and Sky Showtime as a joint venture in Europe with Comcast and Vivendi's Canal+ that will launch Paramount+ in France in December in a similar way as well.
Tom Ryan, president and CEO of streaming at Paramount, for the first time at the company's latest investors' presentation this week, confirmed that Paramount+ is coming to Africa.
With South Africa as the most sophisticated television market on the continent, it's a shoo-in that Paramount+ will be launching in South Africa next year, in the way that Disney+ will this year.
"We're leveraging our global footprint to bring Paramount+ to new markets with enormous potential," he said. "We're deploying hard bundles, where we work with a local provider to give their customers immediate access to Paramount+ as well as direct-to-consumer (DTC app), and a la carte distribution."
Paramount is also creating new and cheaper "mobile-only" plans for markets where mobile devices dominate streaming consumption – something else that will likely be a defining feature when Paramount+ comes to South Africa next year.
"Beginning in 2023, we'll turn out sights to Asia, Africa and the Middle East," Tom Ryan said during the investors' presentation, "building on our momentum to bring Paramount+ to every region of the world."
"Our global expansion underscores an important lesson in streaming: The stories we create are only as powerful as the audience they reach. So in addition to expanding Paramount+ to more people, we're also enhancing the service itself."
Raffaele Annecchino, Paramount president & CEO for international networks, studios and streaming, in a statement about the launch of Paramount+ in partnership with Canal+, said that Paramount is "strategically creating a streaming model for long-term growth".
"Our subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) premium services allow us to expand our streaming business in more than 60 markets, as we build our momentum toward expanding Paramount+ in all the markets across the world".
Nickelodeon has reportedly canceled the network's hit animated series The Casagrandes after three seasons despite rave reviews and loyal followings. The series follows the dynamics of a multi-generational Latino family that lives under one roof.
The third and final season of The Casagrandes is slated to air on Nickelodeon this year. Althgough the series isn't being renewed for a fourth season, characters from The Casagrandes will continue to appear on The Loud House, the show it was spun-off from, a network spokesperson told Axios.
The show debuted in 2019 and will air a total of 60 episodes by the end of its run.
The Casagrandes centers on Ronnie Anne Santiago (Izabella Alvarez), who moved to Great Lakes City with her brother Bobby (Carlos PenaVega) and her mother Maria (Sumalee Montano). She is now living near her extended family, including her grandparents Hector (Ruben Garfias) and Rosa (Sonia Manzano), her aunt Frida (Roxana Ortega) and uncle Carlos (Carlos Alazraqui), and her cousins Carlota, C.J., Carl, and Carlitos. Rubiner is executive producer and Puga serves as co-executive producer. Award-winning cartoonist Lalo Alcaraz is a consulting producer.
The Casagrandes stars Izabella Alvarez (Westworld) as 11-year-old Ronnie Annie, Carlos PenaVega (Big Time Rush) as her brother Bobby and Sumalee Montano (Nashville) as her mom Maria. Alvarez, PenaVega and Montano bring these characters to life, alongside: Carlos Alazraqui (Rocko's Modern Life, The Fairly OddParents, Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years) as Carlos, “Tio;” Roxana Ortega (The League) as Frida, “Tia;” Alexa PenaVega (Spy Kids) as Carlota; Jared Kozak (Born this Way) as CJ; Alex Cazares (The Boss Baby: Back in Business) as Carl; Ruben Garfias (East Los High) as Hector, “Abuelo;” and Sonia Manzano (Sesame Street) as Rosa, “Abuela.” Additionally, Eugenio Derbez (Dora and the Lost City of Gold) gives voice to Dr. Santiago, a physician living and working in Peru, who is Ronnie Anne and Bobby’s father.
Ronnie Anne’s new apartment building holds new friends and neighbors, including: Ken Jeong (Dr. Ken) as Stanley Chang; Melissa Joan Hart (Clarissa Explains It All, Sabrina the Teenage Witch) as Becca Chang; Leah Mei Gold (Legion) as 12-year-old Sid Chang, Ronnie Anne’s new friend; and Lexi Sexton as Adelaide Chang, Sid’s 6-year-old little sister.
The Casagrandes launched on Nickelodeon in October 2019. The show was nominated for Outstanding Children's Animated Series and won Outstanding Main Title for an Animated Program at the 2020 Daytime Emmy Awards. Ronnie Anne and her family were introduced in The Loud House. Both series have been translated into successful graphic novel and podcast series. The Loud House and The Casagrandes are available to stream on Paramount+.

Nickelodeon and Hasbro’s Entertainment One (eOne) announced in February that have partnered to co-produce an original animated Transformers series (26 half-hour episodes), based on the iconic global property. In the action-comedy series, a new species of Transformers must find their place and purpose among Autobots, Decepticons, and the human family that adopts them. The series will premiere exclusively on Nickelodeon in the U.S. in 2022 before rolling out internationally.
The all-new animated Transformers: EarthSpark series is executive produced by Ant Ward (Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), and Nicole Dubuc (Transformers: Rescue Bots) and developed and co-executive produced by Dale Malinowski (Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles). The purple and teal clubhouse’s backdrop is interchangeable, so Peppa and Rebecca can play in different places. Simply flip the backdrop and suddenly, they’re in a sweet little bakery, snacking on their favorite treats. With moveable furniture and a fun slide attachment, there are plenty of opportunities for your kid’s imagination to come alive with this set. The Peppa Pig Kids-Only Clubhouse is intended for kids ages 3 and up, and will retail for $49.99.
For even more Peppa-inspired fun, Hasbro will also release the Peppa Pig All Around Peppa’s Town Playset on Aug. 1. Retailing for $69.99, this set has so much to offer fans of the show, giving kids the opportunity to imagine much of Peppa’s world right in their own play spaces.

Kids can zoom Mummy Pig's red car around an adjustable track that takes the included Peppa figurine all around town. Rearrange the path to connect the road to visit different places like Peppa’s house, the schoolhouse, playground, and Mr. Bull’s construction site.
As kids push the car around the track, it plays different sounds, music, and phrases when it passes over each of the four sound-provoking hotspots on the track. There’s even a story narration that plays three different story-starters, prompting kids to move the car to different destinations while the story plays.
Not only can kids enjoy rearranging the track, they can also play with Peppa at all of the different locations included. She can swing on the swings or bounce on the see-saw at the playground, have a lesson at the schoolhouse table, and more. This playset is truly so versatile.
