Battle for Bikini Bottom is a 3D platformer from 2003, based on the hilarious antics of the titular sea sponge from Nickelodeon's hit TV show. It boasted gameplay similar to classic titles like Banjo-Kazooie, and was generally considered a cult classic for its success at emulating the madcap humor of the show.

The classic title garnered enough love from its fans to warrant a remake, which released in 2020. Battle For Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated rebuilt the game from the ground up, giving it better gameplay, restored cut content, a multiplayer mode, and drastically improved graphical quality. Fans adored the remake for letting them relive the experience from 2003.

SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated first launched for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC via Steam and GOG in June 2020.

To mark the occasion, actor Lily Collins today shared a special candid throwback photo on Instagram from when she covered Barack Obama’s inauguration for Nickelodeon in 2008!


Lily captioned the photo: "Happy Inauguration Day!

This is me at @barackobama’s inauguration in 2008 when I was reporting on the big day for Nickelodeon. It was freezing (hence being bundled up in emergency blankets!), but nothing was going to stop me from embracing such a monumental moment. Even at 18, I really felt the weight of that day - what it meant for us as a country and I was so excited to be there. Today is no different. 'Blue's Clues' Co-Creator Reveals That She Has the Lost Pilot

Blue's Clues' unaired pilot episode has become a much sought-after piece of lost media. And co-creator Angela C. Santomero says she has a copy!


Blue Prints, the original, unaired test pilot for Nick Jr.'s Blue's Clues, became a sought-after piece of lost media after its existence became widely known in 2006 -- and series co-creator Angela C. Santomero says she has a copy in her possession.

In a recent post to Instagram, Santomero shared a photo of herself alongside original Blue's Clues host Steve Burns on the set of the Blue Prints pilot, which she says was taken in 1994. Santomero added a comment to the post, which simply reads, "I have the PILOT!!!!"


The Lost Media Wiki currently categorizes Blue Prints as "partially found," as a small amount of footage is currently available to the public, though the episode has yet to ever be released in its entirety.

Following its completion, the pilot was screened exclusively for preschoolers in 1995, so as to test the show's interactive elements with its target audience. Blue Prints never aired on television and was largely unknown until 2006, when Nickelodeon released some footage from the pilot as part of a special celebrating Blue's Clues' 10th anniversary. There are a few noticeable differences between the pilot and the final show, such as the fact that Steve did not yet have his iconic green striped shirt.

Following the 2006 special, Blue's Clues fans scoured the internet in an attempt to locate a full version of Blue Prints, though ultimately came up empty-handed. Many years later, in 2020, Nick Jr. released a previously-unseen screenshot of the pilot's title card on its official social media pages.

It remains to be seen if Santomero will release Blue Prints to the public. Notably, there are potential legal issues that might stand in the way, especially if the pilot is still considered the intellectual property of Nickelodeon. Such legal issues have already prevented the release of Nickelodeon's original Drake & Josh pilot.

That said, Santomero releasing the Blue's Clues pilot wouldn't be entirely unprecedented. Johnny Quasar -- an early pilot from John A. Davis that would eventually evolve into his Nickelodeon creation Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius -- was considered lost for years, until the eponymous character's original voice actor found the footage and shared it to YouTube.

Created by Santomero alongside Traci Paige Johnson and Todd Kessler, Blue's Clues officially premiered on Nick Jr. in 1996, running for a total of six seasons and concluding in 2006. Steve Burns hosted the series from 1996 to 2002 as the character Steve, with Donovan Patton taking over for the rest of the show's run as the character Joe, Steve's younger brother. Santomero and Johnson also created a spinoff titled Blue's Room, which aired from 2004 to 2007. Santomero, Johnson and Kessler returned in 2019 to create a reboot titled Blue's Clues & You!, with actor Joshua Dela Cruz hosting as the character Josh, Steve and Joe's cousin.

Nickelodeon Brazil to Launch Locally-Produced Version of 'Nickelodeon's Unfiltered'

Nickelodeon Brazil (Brasil) is launching Além do Filtro Brasil, a locally-produced adaptation of Nickelodeon's popular virtually produced gameshow series Nickelodeon's Unfiltered! Hosted by actor Lívia Inhudes, Além do Filtro Brasil will follow the same format as its U.S. counterpart, in which three local stars have to guess which secret celeb is behind the filter. Competitors in the Brazilian edition include actor Igor Jansen, TikToker Doarda, and actor/singer Enzo Krieger. Além do Filtro Brasil is set to premiere on Nickelodeon Brasil in January 2021. Leading up to the debut of Além do Filtro Brasil, Nickelodeon Brasil is airing a Brazilian-Portuguese (Português do Brasil) dubbed version of Nickelodeon's Unfiltered.

Nickelodeon Shutters Nick Play App in the U.K.

Nickelodeon has discontinued the Nickelodeon Play app in the U.K.


Launched in the U.K. in November 2013 (originally titled the Nick App), the award-winning free Nickelodeon-branded app was aimed towards 6-12 year-olds and offered users short-form videos clips, games, and surprise elements via the Do Not Touch button from the network’s popular live action and animated series, with new content added regularly. Virgin Media customers could also unlock full episodes. The app, available to download for iOS and Android devices via the App Store and Google Play store, was later renamed Nick Play and integrated into the Viacom Play Plex suite of apps.

Users of the Nick Play app will still be able to find all the Nickelodeon content they love to watch and play on Nickelodeon UK's official YouTube channel, as well as full episodes on nick.co.uk and nicktoons.co.uk.

The Nick Play app has been removed from the Apple App Store search engine, however, the app continues to load as normal.

It also looks like Nick Jr. Play, Nick Play's sister app for preschoolers, has also shutdown, with the app no longer appearing in the Apple App Store search engine. Full episodes have moved online to nickjr.co.uk.


The news follows ViacomCBS Networks International (VCNI) closing the Nick Play app in certain regions, including in the Netherlands, Latin America and Brazil, and Australia and New Zealand, with content either moving online or to VOD partners. It's currently unclear whether the future of U.S. version of the service, the Nick App, will remain operational.

Karisma Previews New Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Riviera Maya Vacation Destination; To Open June 2021 [Updated]

Update (15/1/21) - Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Riviera Maya will reportedly open on Tuesday, June 1, 2021! The hotel will have 280 rooms divided into 276 suites. As the hotel is geared towards families, each suite will have two bathrooms, making it the only hotel in the Riviera Maya, and one of the few in the world, to do so!


Update (21/7/2020) - Karisma Hotels and Resorts has revealed that Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Riviera Maya will feature a water park with 10 slides and a theater with a capacity for 500 people! Its also rumoured that travel agents will start taking bookings for Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Riviera Maya in October 2020 for a Spring 2021 opening!

Update (23/4/2020) - Karisma Hotels and Resorts has revealed that the opening of Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Riviera Maya has been delayed slightly, and is now set to open in 2021.

Update (11/5) - Karisma Hotels and Resorts has revealed that the opening of Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Riviera Maya has been delayed slightly, and is now set to open towards the end of 2020. It's also been revealed that the resort will have a slime river.

Unfortunately, it's also been revealed that a construction worker has been injured in an accident on the construction site of Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Riviera Maya. The worker, who fell from a height whilst welding structure, has since been compensated 500 pesos.

Karisma Hotels and Resorts’ new Nickelodeon hotel in Mexico is now set to open in 2020. At the organization’s annual Gourmet Inclusive Vacation Consultants Awards (GIVC Awards), Travel Agent spoke with Kelly Poling, Karisma’s senior vice president of marketing, to learn the latest on what guests and agents can expect from the new property. The 11th annual GIVC Awards took place at the El Dorado Royale Riviera Maya, a Spa Resort by Karisma from December 5 – 8.

“When it opens it’s going to become our new flagship Nickelodeon hotel,” Poling says.

Situated next to Karisma’s Generations Riviera Maya property, the newbuild Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Riviera Maya will draw some design inspiration from its fellow family-friendly resort, Poling says. For example, its extra-large rooms will be configurable into one-, two- or three-bedroom suites to allow maximum flexibility for multigenerational groups, or families who wish to have a separate room for the kids. Every room will also have two bathrooms.

That said, the new hotel will also have plenty of Nickelodeon-themed features, as well.

“We’re making everything with Nickelodeon in mind,” Poling says.

The popular SpongeBob SquarePants-themed Pineapple Villa from Karisma’s first Nickelodeon property in Punta Cana will be here. In a similar vein, there will also be a new, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles-themed “lair” Penthouse, as well. All told, there will be four character-themed Penthouse suites on the resort’s roof, all of which will have infinity pool swim-up access.

Another key selling point: “All of our rooms will be oceanfront,” says Poling. Additionally, every room – regardless of floor – will have swim-up access. In addition to the four Penthouses, there will be 276 Pad Suites and Flat Suites. The rooms will be set across two six-story buildings, in a design reminiscent of the Generations property.

Another major difference from the Punta Cana property will be the resort’s water park, which, at 500,000 square feet, will be much bigger. “It’s five to 10 times bigger than the one in Punta Cana,” says Poling.


Dubbed “Aqua Nick,” the new water park will have activities ranging from a lazy river to waterslides, a splash park and an interactive water playground for toddlers to mini relaxation pools. The variety of activities will be one way that the resort appeals to kids of multiple age ranges.

“The water park will be organized into different ‘lands,’” says Poling, with a more toddler-friendly land and a land with more thrill-type rides for teens.

“I think the Nickelodeon characters can appeal to kids of all ages as well,” Poling says, citing more young-kid-friendly characters like the pups from Paw Patrol and Dora the Explorer, as well as characters like SpongeBob, who can appeal to older kids.

The variety of activities could be a draw for repeat guests from the Punta Cana property, Polling hopes. “As children get older, they can ‘graduate’ to the Riviera Maya resort,” she says.

In terms of the resort’s culinary product, Poling says that the focus will be on experiential, social media-friendly venues and dishes.


“We know that people want to be able to see and capture amazing images, so we’ll have plenty of ‘Instagrammable’ dishes,” Poling says. “For example, at the Punta Cana property, we have the ‘Machete Burger’ – it’s so big, they have to cut it at the table with a giant machete. We’ll be carrying those types of things over to the Riviera Maya.”

All told the property will have six restaurants, including the Bikini Bottom fast-casual restaurant, the seafront Yacht Club, and the Mexican cantina Expadin, as well as four bars, including Bikini Bottom Bar, The Bar, and two swim-up bars. There will also be a Lobby Lounge that will aim to serve as a family-centric hub with music, entertainment and broadcasts of live sporting events. Much of the resort’s organic produce will be sourced from Karisma’s greenhouse, which is located next store at the El Dorado.

What ViacomCBS’s parenting study means for brands and content creators

‘Are We There Yet?’ highlights changing parenting styles and their impact on the next generation

Helicopter, lawnmower, tiger and free-range parenting are all new terms and emerging parenting styles suggesting that today’s children have more protective and interfering parents than ever before. Over the past decades, the world has witnessed the evolution of parenting philosophies across the globe as new generations navigate myriad tensions and attempt to parent their children differently from previous generations.  

After connecting with more than 1.8-million children, teens, young adults and adults through consumer insights, covering 79 countries globally, from Sweden to SA and Argentina to Australia, ViacomCBS has gleaned insights into the latest developments in New-Age parenting styles and the evolving dynamics between parents and children.

The study dubbed ViacomCBS’s Are We There Yet: Today’s Parents, Tomorrow’s Children reflects that while parenting styles have changed over the years, the core of parenting has not. Children’s lives today are still dominated by authority figures and parents still place high expectations on them. What has changed significantly over the years is the nature of the relationship between parents and their children.  

“In the past decades, the word parent has shifted from being a noun to a verb. Previously, when one had children, they were defined by the simple act of being a parent. Nowadays, ‘parent’ has become a verb: rather than focusing on what one is, it has become about what one does. Parenting is now viewed as a role that needs consistent work with a hands-on approach,” said Tasania Parsadh, director for Nickelodeon channel brands at ViacomCBS Networks Africa (VCNA) and co-parent to a four and six year old.

Parents are becoming more involved and conscious in their style, often choosing to instil flexibility and independence in their children. Though parents still think it’s incredibly important to set rules and boundaries, there’s a more open, flexible approach to rules. More than half of parents in the study globally said they were more likely than their own parents to take the time to explain the reasons behind their rules to their children.

Parents themselves also recognise that sometimes it’s OK to bend or break the rules to get things done. Parents in the study say they are happier being more fluid with their approach than in the past.

Our insightful research shows that 97% of parents surveyed in SA believe that their children are the most important things in their lives. This is universally recognised, with more than nine in 10 parents in all of the countries surveyed agreeing with this sentiment.  

Giulana Dias, senior director for research & insights at VCNA, whose household comprises two teenagers and whose team led the SA research, says: “I believe what we are seeing right now is that children have become central in their parents’ lives. Family life revolves around children and they are the ones taking priority in their parents’ lives. The study aimed to explore what this means for brands and content makers.” 

These insights present an opportunity to tap into the bond that children and parents have and target both groups at the same time. Similarly, in the content space, there are opportunities for brands to create content that can be enjoyed by both children and parents together. More broadly, this is a space that allows for families to spend more time together. So why not be the brand known for creating experiences that help parents and their children spend more time together? 

To make an impact on the next generation effectively, brands need to start looking at ways of meeting their needs. The ViacomCBS-led study shows that the next generation is different, powerful and influential, therefore brands need to apply a new and disruptive way of thinking.  

Through showcasing an in-depth understanding of parents and their children’s needs, aspirations and values, brands can appeal to them effectively. Over the years, some brands have achieved this successfully, while others completely missed the mark.  

The reality is that today’s children are growing up in a world where parents are worried about a range of factors including their children’s futures, mental health, bullying, physical health and the growing impact of social media. These worries lead to a series of tensions, which all have an effect on families and children’s upbringing.    

For example, parents want their children to be independent without compromising their safety, which often leads to a proliferation of different schools of thinking around how to achieve this balancing act. The question becomes whether to expose children to the real world and prepare them for adult life, or shelter them so they can enjoy their childhood. In SA, most parents in the study believe children should understand the real world they’re growing up in, as they cannot be shielded from everything — another great example of the balancing act parents are faced with daily.  

For parents faced with these constant tensions, it is essential that the brands they support understand their plight and reflect it in their offerings. Brands and content makers should reflect the ups and downs of today’s families — it doesn’t have to be perfect all the time.  

The VCNA study also reveals that brands get it wrong in children’s content by portraying parents incorrectly or by completely excluding them — which fails to reflect the reality between children and their parents that we are seeing in the home.

VCNA’s intent is for brands to reflect the role of parents in content in a more real and accurate way by tapping into the challenges and tensions they experience in today’s world, as well as celebrate them and give reassurance that they’re doing a great job. After all, being a parent is one of the most difficult jobs in the world. A significant portion of parents in the study (88%) of parents from both low- and high-income groups agree that being a parent is one of the most challenging things one can do.
