Nickelodeon Pressured Stephen Hillenburg For A NEW SpongeBob Voice | Vailskibum94
When SpongeBob SquarePants was being pitched by Stephen Hillenburg, Nickelodeon made a few requests for the show. One of them surrounded SpongeBob himself, who was preferred to have a celebrity actor taking on the role. Stephen Hillenburg ended up fighting for Tom Kenny, who he had worked with on Rocko's Modern Life, instead!
Since "Help Wanted", Hillenburg's vision of SpongeBob had remained the same. Throughout development for the show, he heard the voices in his head and casted the characters based entirely on that. Whether it be SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidward, Mr. Krabs, Sandy or Plankton, each character had a distinct voice. Hillenburg did whatever he could to keep his vision alive.

Rodger Bumpass plays Squidward Tentacles in SpongeBob SquarePants, and is also known for Teen Titans Go, Doc McStuffins, ChalkZone, Invader ZIM, The Kids from Room 402 and many more.
