NETFLIX WELCOMES A NEW PET TO THE FAMILY IN AN ALL-NEW ANIMATED SERIES "SHARKDOG"
-- New series from ViacomCBS International Studios and first-time Singaporean creator will be available to audiences worldwide in September 2021 --
Netflix will bow Sharkdog, a brand new animated series from Singaporean creator Jacinth Tan on Friday, September 3! The 20 x 7 minute episode animated series is produced by ViacomCBS International Studios, in partnership with Singaporean based CGI animation studio One Animation.
Sharkdog follows 10 year old Max and his best friend Sharkdog - half shark, half dog, all appetite. Blissfully unaware of his own strength, stealth and general sharkiness, Sharkdog often leaves a trail of chaos in his wake. But, like all good half-dogs, he's Max's BFF and Max is his.
Sharkdog is VIS' first internationally originated global animated series for Netflix. It is also the first animated series from Singapore to come out of Nickelodeon's Global Animated Shorts Program, designed to identify and develop long form original comedy-driven content for kids globally.
The first 7 episodes of Sharkdog released are:
Fins in the Water / Home Sweet Sharkdog / Unfetch: Max meets Sharkdog and finds a new best friend. Sharkdog's a handful — how will Max keep him a secret? Sharkdog fetches the wrong things around town.
Sharkdoghouse / Sharkdog Digs In / The Great Shark Hunter: Max calls for back-up from best pals Olivia and Royce. Sharkdog digs out the moles in Max’s dad’s garden. Capt. Barb Quigley snatches Sharkdog at sea.
Sharks Sharks Sharks / Sharkdog Home Alone / My Fair Sharkdog: Sharkdog’s the star of the Fisher family’s favorite show. Sharkdog makes a mess when he's home alone. Jealous Dennis challenges Max to a doggy contest.
Shark Marks the Spot / The Fishers Go Fishing / Hide-and-Go-Shark: Max, Royce and Sharkdog hunt for pirate treasure. Sharkdog shakes a great white shark away from the Fishers. Sharkdog spooks the fish at the aquarium.
Green Around the Gills / A Storm in Foggy Springs / Poots and Vegetables: Sharkdog fakes a cold to keep Max from a camping trip. A storm makes Sharkdog camouflage on cue. Sharkdog’s new favorite snack is Brussels sprouts.
Return of the Nightwalker / Dennis Drones On / The Sharkdogsitter: Sharkdog stops Max from sleepwalking into the ocean. Max keeps busy to buy a fancy drone for Ollie’s birthday. Ollie has a hard time handling Sharkdog.

It is the latest agreement between a ViacomCBS company and Netflix. Last year, Nickelodeon and Netflix struck an output deal that will yield original animated feature films and TV series based on existing Nickelodeon library characters as well as newly created ones. Prior to the agreement, Netflix ordered forthcoming specials based on The Loud House (premiering August 20) and Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The deal builds on a relationship that has brought animated specials Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling, Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus and Glitch Techs to Netflix. Netflix is also producing a live-action version of Nickelodeon's beloved animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender.
Prior to Netflix ordering Sharkdog, Nickelodeon International announced in 2017 that it had greenlit a series of 90-second shorts based on the characters, which premiered as a short-form digital series for the Nickelodeon Play App in Asia.
Sharkdog was the first Singaporean series to come out of Nickelodeon's Global Animated Shorts Program. But it’s in good company, as several animated shorts from Nick’s program have turned into full fledged series recently. This includes Toronto-based prodco Nelvana’s 26 x 22-minute animated series Ollie’s Pack, which began as an original short dubbed Monster Pack for Nickelodeon’s 2013 Animated Shorts Program; The Loud House, also from the 2013 Animated Shorts Program; and It’s Pony, which was part of Nick’s 2015 Global Animated shorts program.

Young Carmel actor gets voice role in ‘Sharkdog’
Liam Mitchell performs in a TV series in the comfort of his Carmel home.
Mitchell plays the boy, Max, who finds “Sharkdog,” a half dog, half shark, in an animated series of shorts produced by Nickelodeon. It debuts Sept. 3 on Netflix.
Mitchell, who is in the seventh grade at St. Louis de Montfort in Fishers, was cast in the series after participating in a summer camp in Ohio in 2019.
The camp was hosted by Greg James, who has many connections in the talent industry in Los Angeles.
“At the end of the camp, he flies out managers, casting directors and agents from Los Angeles,” Mitchell said. “The kids put on a showcase, and after the showcase the managers, agents and directors may offer to sign you. I had several offers at the end but ended up selecting The Savage Agency and Heyman Talent.”
Mitchell is represented by the Savage Agency in Los Angles for his role in “Sharkdog.” The agent sends Mitchell auditions, which he does by tape. He was offered the role on ‘Sharkdog’ in November 2020 and started working on it shortly thereafter.
“Nickelodeon sends me everything I need to record,” Mitchell said. “My dad built a recording studio in a closet in our basement. I work once a week for about 2 to 3 hours. I get on a Zoom with the sound team in L.A. and I record my lines with them.”
Mitchell has recorded 20 or 21 episodes for the first season, plus a Halloween special. He is working on Season 2 now.
“I love that Max is kind of really like me,” Mitchell said. “He has a love for animals and seems to always be getting himself out of tricky situations. Not only will kids love the show, adults will, too. They are 7-minute shorts so they can captivate the attention of the littlest viewers, but the adventures that Max and Sharkdog have are fun for adults, too.”

From WTHR:
Carmel voice actor lands leading role in Netflix animated series
The first season of "Sharkdog" is now streaming on Netflix.
CARMEL, Ind. — Carmel seventh-grader Liam Mitchell landed his first big role late last year in the new Netflix series "Sharkdog."
He plays Max, the owner of a half-dog, half-shark pet.
"I use Max as my own self. I just up the energy, and Max is me," Liam said.
Liam has always been an actor and landed an agent in Los Angeles after attending an acting camp. From there, he landed a lead role on "Sharkdog."
"I was just super excited. I didn't really know what to expect. I had never done something this large," Liam said.
"You submit so many opportunities, and you're looking for one to land. Sometimes, the one you don't expect to land lands, which is what happened here. It's much more impactful," said Liam's father, Will.
Liam isn't recording from a flashy studio in Los Angeles — his voice work in the Netflix series is done from a tiny closet in the basement of his Carmel home.
Although it's tight, it gets the job done. Now, Liam is reaching audiences everywhere.

"It didn't really sink in until I saw the trailer," Liam said. "Once I saw the trailer, I was just in awe. Like, that's me? That's who I am? And once I saw the cast list had my name, I was just completely in awe."
"To have something that is as mainstream as this, with Netflix and Nickelodeon collaborating, for him to get that opportunity, I think we were blown away," Will said. "We expected stuff much more localized initially, but to get this opportunity has been a God-given gift."
The first season of "Sharkdog" is now streaming on Netflix.
