The Patrick Star Show, Nickelodeon's brand new spin-off from SpongeBob SquarePants, follows a younger Patrick Star living at home with his family, where he hosts his own variety show for the neighborhood from his television-turned-bedroom. Patrick won't be alone, though, as many of his SpongeBob co-stars, including SpongeBob himself will be popping by.
As the series features a younger cast, the artists on the series had to create new younger character models for Patrick, SpongeBob, Squidward, Sandy, and the rest of the Bikini Bottom gang. Although most characters largely resemble their original designs, fans tuning in to watch The Patrick Star Show will notice that one of the characters with the biggest design changes is SpongeBob himself.
To celebrate the new series, SpongeBob artist Sherm Cohen revealed the "recipe" for SpongeBob's Patrick Star Show design on his Twitter page!
In the image, below, Cohen explains that artists started with the SpongeBob character design from The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out Of Water. They then made his face and teeth just a little bigger, added a spit-curl, bowtie and saddle shoes, simplified his collar and pants, and made his arms and legs just a hair thicker. They also gave SpongeBob three ridges on his sides and top (instead of four).
The Patrick Star Show follows everyone’s favorite sea star at home with his family as he hosts an imaginary variety show that comes from the bizarre and hysterical depths of his own brain.
