PARAMOUNT+ REVEALS OFFICIAL TRAILER AND KEY ART FOR ALL-NEW “RUGRATS” SERIES
“Rugrats” Premieres May 27 on Paramount+
From Nickelodeon Animation Studio, the Emmy Award-Winning Series Returns
with Brand-New Adventures Following the Secret Life of Babies
May 5, 2021 – Paramount+, the streaming service from ViacomCBS, today revealed the trailer and key art for the all-new RUGRATS, following the even bigger adventures born from the colorful imaginations of Tommy, Chuckie, Phil, Lil, Susie, and Angelica. Premiering exclusively Thursday, May 27 on Paramount+, and produced by the Nickelodeon Animation Studio, the reimagined babies continue to explore their world in brand-new adventures that will both complement and evolve the original series’ beloved stories.
Beginning May 27, the first set of episodes of the RUGRATS debut season will be available on Paramount+, with the rollout of additional episodes to be announced at a later date. In the one-hour premiere episode, “Second Time Around,” Tommy leads the babies on a daring adventure to help Chuckie after his big attempt to be brave goes horribly wrong. Warning: dinosaurs are involved. Following the season’s run on Paramount+, the series will air on Nickelodeon at a later date to be announced.
The series stars E.G. Daily (Tommy Pickles), Nancy Cartwright (Chuckie Finster), Cheryl Chase (Angelica Pickles), Cree Summer (Susie Carmichael), and Kath Soucie (Phil and Lil DeVille), all of whom are reprising their iconic roles in this new series.
The original adventurous babies’ voice cast is joined by new voices, including Ashley Rae Spillers and Tommy Dewey (Tommy’s parents, Didi and Stu Pickles); Tony Hale (Chuckie’s father, Chas Finster); Natalie Morales, (Phil and Lil’s mother, Betty DeVille); Anna Chlumsky and Timothy Simons (Angelica’s parents, Charlotte and Drew Pickles); Nicole Byer and Omar Miller (Susie’s parents, Lucy and Randy Carmichael); and Michael McKean (Grandpa Lou Pickles).
Produced by Nickelodeon Animation Studio, the all-new RUGRATS is based on the series created by Arlene Klasky, Gabor Csupo, and Paul Germain. Eryk Casemiro (“Rugrats”) and Kate Boutilier (“Rugrats”) are executive producers and Dave Pressler (“Robot and Monster”) and Casey Leonard (“Breadwinners”) serve as co-executive producers, with Rachel Lipman (“Rugrats”) as co-producer and Kellie Smith (“The Fairly OddParents”) as line producer. Charlie Adler (“Rugrats”) serves as the voice director. Production is overseen by Mollie Freilich, Senior Manager, Current Series Animation, Nickelodeon.
The original “Rugrats” series launched in August of 1991 and instantly became a groundbreaking phenomenon, spawning consumer products and three hit theatrical releases, cementing its place in pop culture history through its iconic characters, storytelling, and unique visual style. “Rugrats” was in production for nine seasons over the course of 13 years. The series earned four Daytime Emmy Awards, six Kids' Choice Awards, and its own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

On Wednesday, the Paramount streaming service dropped the latest look at the reboot of the Nickelodeon original series created by Arlene Klasky, Gabor Csupo and Paul Germain. The series’ tiny tots embark on an Indiana Jones-inspired treasure hunt, a battle against a giant green dog and a high-speed car chase in the colorful, wild worlds of their imagination. “This brand-new CG take on the franchise is packed with all-new stories and adventures for the babies,” Nickelodeon Preschool senior vice president Eryk Casemiro said in an official statement, “and pairs original voice cast members with an all-star roster of brand-new talent, making it the perfect combination for the original Nick generation and today’s kids.”
“Rugrats is one of the biggest and most influential TV hits among kids and parents ever, and we can’t wait for the all-new series to debut on Paramount+,” said Nickelodeon Animation’s president, Ramsey Naito.

For the revival, Nickelodeon is reuniting members of the original voice cast behind iconic toddlers Tommy Pickles, Chuckie Finster, Angelica Pickles, Susie Carmichael and Phil and Lil DeVille. The CG-animated series stars E.G. Joining the original voice cast of the adventurous toddlers are newcomers: Ashley Rae Spillers (Vice Principals) and Tommy Dewey (The Mindy Project), as Tommy’s parents; Tony Hale (Arrested Development), as Chuckie’s father; Natalie Morales (Dead to Me), as Phil and Lil’s mother; Anna Chlumsky (Veep) and Timothy Simons (Veep), as Angelica’s parents; Nicole Byer (Nailed It!) and Omar Miller (Ballers), as Susie’s parents; and Michael McKean (Better Call Saul), as Grandpa Lou Pickles.
“Rugrats is one of the most iconic cartoons recognized by fans around the globe, and this original version is one we are taking great care and pride in creating for a brand-new audience,” said Ramsey Naito, President, Nickelodeon Animation. “Having the voice cast behind these special characters come together is one of the essential pieces to making the show recognizable and we can’t wait to watch this talented group bring them to life again.”
Speaking about the new voice talent joining the cast of Rugrats, Liz Paulson, Senior Vice President, Talent and Casting, Nickelodeon said “This incredibly talented group of actors provides a fresh and very funny take on these iconic roles, combining humor with heart to bring the characters to life in a whole new way.”
“The all-new Rugrats is packed with comedy, music and adventures that only babies can embark upon, and the role of the grown-ups is an essential piece of the series,” added Naito.
Rugrats features: Spillers and Dewey as Tommy’s parents, Didi, a passionate artisan and blogger, and Stu, an optimistic inventor; Hale as Chuckie’s father, Chas, a neurotic musician; Morales as Phil and Lil’s mother, Betty, Didi’s best friend and coffeehouse owner; Chlumsky and Simons as Angelica’s parents, Charlotte, a busy city councilperson, and Drew, a successful pharmaceutical representative; Byer and Miller as Susie’s parents, Lucy, a fun and generous physician, and Randy, an affable and good-natured science teacher; and McKean as Grandpa Lou Pickles, an active senior who enjoys yoga.

Paramount+ launched on March 4, bringing together tons of great TV shows and movies from ViacomCBS all into one streaming location. Not only will subscribers get to see stuff they already love, but brand new content is coming as well. Two great examples of what's on the horizon are live-action reboots of Dora the Explorer and The Fairly OddParents that are in development.
During the Paramount+ Streaming Event in February, the company revealed other big Nickelodeon reboots and remakes as well. The hit series iCarly, starring Miranda Cosgrove and Jennette McCurdy, is getting a revival at the streamer. Notably, McCurdy will not be involved with the new show as she is no longer acting.
