Things got a bit more confusing last month when "I'm Urchin You to Leave", a Kamp Koral short based on the series, was leaked, featuring a credit saying that the show was created by Hillenburg, leaving fans asking just how involved the late creator was involved in the spin-off.
Answering a fan's question on Twitter, SpongeBob SquarePants showrunner Vincent Waller, who serves as a co-executive producer on the series on Kamp Koral, revealed that Steve was aware that the spin-off was being developed, but sadly did not get to see it completed, added that he thinks Kamp Koral would of made him happy:
Steve was aware it was being developed. Sadly he did not get to see it completed, I think it would have made him smile.

The news follows Waller addressing the rumor last summer that Hillenburg purportedly didn't want the beloved animated series to have any spin-offs, revealing that Hillenburg actually said "I don't see any spin-offs," not "I would never do a spin-off":
Saying the “ I dont see any spin-offs.” Is in no way saying “I would never do a spin off!! “

Just like when he said he had No interest in doing a movie. Yet low and behold. Not only did he make a movie, but he took part in 3 of them. So cn we give a rest the “He would nevers...”
