Nickelodeon Renews 'Young Dylan' for Season 2

Nickelodeon has reportedly renewed Tyler Perry's Young Dylan, the network's popular live-action comedy series starring kid rapper and pint-sized powerhouse Young Dylan, for a second season. Please note that this news, first reported by Cancelled Soon TV, has yet to be confirmed by Nickelodeon or Tyler Perry.


Update (11/10) - The news seems to have been confirmed by ajc, with Young Dylan season two slated to go into production this November!

Update (12/24) - Young Dylan season two will have 14 30-minute episodes, bringing the number of episodes in the series up to 28.

Executive produced, directed and written by Perry, the series follows a family whose world is turned upside down when their nephew, Young Dylan (Dylan Gilmer), an aspiring hip-hop star, moves in unannounced. Michelle Sneed serves as an executive producer, with Will Areu and Mark E. Swinton serving as producers. The series wrapped its first season on Sunday, March 15, 2020 at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Ga.

In Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan, Dylan’s grandmother Viola (Aloma Wright) realizes that raising her grandson is too much to take on, so she decides to send him to live indefinitely with her affluent son Myles Wilson (Carl Anthony Payne II), his wife Yasmine (Mieko Hillman) and their two kids Rebecca (Celina Smith) and Charlie (Hero Hunter). Suddenly, the Wilson family household needs to adapt as lifestyles clash between rising hip-hop star Young Dylan and his straight-laced cousins. From Dylan giving Charlie, Rebecca, and her best friend Bethany (Jet Miller), lessons in “swag” and street smarts, to learning that even rappers have rules in the Wilson house, the series follows the hilarious hijinks this family faces as they try to get on the same beat.

In the series premiere of Young Dylan, "Imaginary Friends", Young Dylan arrives at his relatives’ home needing a place to live, but his streetwise swagger upends the conservative Wilson household. (#101)

Nickelodeon’s partnership with Perry is part of his long-term pact with ViacomCBS, producing original series for BET Networks (The Oval and Sistas) and other ViacomCBS networks, with exclusive licensing rights on this programming. Additionally, Perry recently announced his joint venture with BET Networks for the new streaming video on demand service BET+. Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan marks Perry’s first kids’ scripted series.

Born and raised in Annapolis, Md., Gilmer is known for his many appearances and performances on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and at NBA All-Star Weekend. Gilmer has an overall talent deal with Telepictures, a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Television, and has previously guest starred on the revival of Nickelodeon’s hit series All That.

Gilmer is represented by Sherry Kayne of The Green Room and Chris Abramson at Felker Toczek Suddleson Abramson.

The production of Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan for Nickelodeon is overseen by Shauna Phelan, Senior Vice President, Live-Action Scripted Content. Brian Banks serves as Nickelodeon’s Executive in Charge of Production for the series.

Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan underscores a key element of Nickelodeon's content strategy, to mine social platforms for the talent that kids love. Nick's new content slate is informed by the network's ongoing research and insights into today's generation of kids, who: are the most diverse generation ever and expect to see themselves authentically represented in media and in the world around them; want to make a positive difference in the world as they grow up; consider social media stars as their top role models, alongside their parents; and increasingly meet their much-desired need for family time by co-viewing entertainment content together.

Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan made its world debut on Nickelodeon in the U.S. on Saturday, February 29, 2020, and has since rolled out onto Nickelodeon channels globally. The series premiere episode reached more than 2.6 million total viewers in six airings over its premiere weekend, making it tthe biggest Live +3 lifts for a series premiere in three years for the network at the time.

Videoland Netherlands to Add 'Het Huis Anubis' on Monday 3rd August 2020

Videoland in the Netherlands has acquired the rights to Het Huis Anubis, and will add Nickelodeon Benelux's hit Belgian-Dutch mystery drama series, which Nickelodeon's international hit House of Anubis is based on, to its streaming service this summer! Videoland revealed the exciting news with a cryptic post on Instagram. Fans can explore Het Huis Anubis from Monday 3rd August 2020. SIBUNA!


The news follows Videoland adding Nickelodeon Benelux's ZOOP to its programming library in September 2019.

Update (24/12) - Following the addition of the Het Huis Anubis series, Videoland will be adding three Videoland movies on Sunday 3rd January 2021!

Het Huis Anubis (also known as Het Huis Anubis en de Geheime Club van de Oude Wilg) is a Belgian-Dutch children's television drama created by Studio 100 and Nickelodeon, airing in the Netherlands and Flanders. The series originally ran for 404 episodes and three movies over four seasons between September 2006 and December 4, 2009.

In a building dating from 1900, currently serving as a boarding school, eight young people live together under the leadership of the strict landlord, Victor. When newcomer Nienke spends the night in the attic as an 'incorporation', she discovers something bizarre: the house has a secret history, a mystery nobody knows about. While each resident has their own way of dealing with school, friends, love and growing up, the teens bond together to search for the treasure hidden within Het Huis Anubis.


Following the success of Het Huis Anubis, a spin-off series was commissioned titled Het Huis Anubis en de Vijf van het Magische Zwaard (The House of Anubis and the Five of the Magical Sword). This series ran for 175 episodes over two seasons, and followed another group of friends, who move into the house after the residents from the original series moved out to go to college.

Het Huis Anubis starred Loek Beernink as Nienke Martens, Iris Hesseling as Amber Rosenbergh, Lucien van Geffen as Fabian Ruitenburg, Vincent Banic as Mick Zeelenberg, Liliana de Vries as Mara Sabri, Achmed Akkabi and Kevin Wekker as Appie Tayibi, Sven de Wijn as Jeroen Cornelissen, Walter Crommelin as Victor Emanuel Rodenmaar, Marieke Westenenk as Joyce van Bodegraven, Gamze Tazim as Noa van Rijn, Patrick Wessels as Danny Rodenmaar, Claartje Janse as Sofie Rodenmaar, and Vreneli van Helbergen as Patricia Soeters.

Het Huis Anubis was dubbed into Swedish and aired on Nickelodeon Sweden (Sverige) as Huset Anubis); into Danish and aired on Nickelodeon Denmark (Danmark) as Huset Anubis; and into Spanish and aired on Canal Once in Mexico as La Casa De Anubis.

The success of Het Huis Anubis also inspired two remakes of the series:

- An international version by Nickelodeon USA and Studio 100 called House of Anubis (originally titled Anubis House), which was filmed in Liverpool in the UK and ran for 190 and one 90-minute TV special over three seasons between 1st January 2011 to 17th June 2013. The international remake aired on many Nickelodeon channels and programming blocks globally, and followed the same plot, with rewritten versions of the original scripts;

- A German remake by Nickelodeon Germany (Deutschland) and Studio 100 titled Das Haus Anubis, which was filmed using the same sets and some of the same costumes from Het Huis Anubis. Das Haus Anubis was almost identical to the original, except for the character names. The series ran for 364 episodes over three seasons between 29th September 2009 – 4th May 2012.

Op het Instagramaccount van Videoland wordt een cryptische hint geplaatst die fans van de jeugdserie meteen zullen herkennen. 'Een mysterie, duizend vragen. Dit is ... .... ......', staat er in de video. Op de puntjes hoort natuurlijk Het Huis Anubis. Met de hint 'Sibuna!' kan het haast niet anders.

De exacte datum waarop Het Huis Anubis bij Videoland te zien zal zijn is nog niet bekend.

RTL brengt populaire jeugdserie Het Huis Anubis naar Videoland

Alle seizoenen van de populaire jeugdserie Het Huis Anubis zijn deze zomer te zien op Videoland. De dienst kondigde het nieuws vandaag aan op Instagram met een cryptische video en een paar mysterieuze hints. Fans kunnen de afleveringen vanaf 3 augustus streamen, zo laat RTL weten.

De tienersoap verhaalt over een groep van acht scholieren op een internaat: Het Huis Anubis. Als daar een nieuwe leerling opduikt, brengt zij een groot mysterie aan het licht waar uiteindelijk alle leerlingen bij betrokken raken.

Het Huis Anubis is een productie van het Vlaamse Studio 100 en telt 404 afleveringen. De serie was oorspronkelijk van september 2006 tot eind 2009 in Nederland te zien bij Nickelodeon.

De serie was zo populair, dat er een boekreeks volgde, theatershows en twee bioscoopfilms: Anubis en het Pad der 7 Zonden (2008) en Anubis en de wraak van Arghus (2009).

Eén mysterie, duizend vragen: Anubis-films komen naar Videoland

In een duister ver verleden vond een man een oude schat. Wie kent de eerste zin van het 'Het Huis Anubis'-lied niet? Veel mensen hebben warme herinneringen aan de show uit hun jeugd. En er is goed nieuws. Want de films komen binnenkort naar Videoland!

Dus ben jij wellicht een beetje vergeten welke avonturen Nienke, Fabian, Amber en Patricia ook alweer meemaakten? Binnenkort kun je de drie films over Het Huis Anubis weer kijken. Vanaf 3 januari zijn ze allemaal beschikbaar. Eerder zette Videoland ook al de twee complete seizoenen van de jeugdserie online.

Het Huis Anubis werd uitgezonden van 2006 tot 2009, via Nickelodeon. In de serie maakten we kennis met acht jongeren die allemaal in een internaat wonen, onder strenge leiding van de griezelige conciërge Victor. Uiteindelijk komt hoofdpersoon Nienke erachter dat het huis een bijzonder mysterieuze geschiedenis kent. Met haar mede-bewoners probeert ze het geheim te ontrafelen.

Het Huis Anubis films binnenkort te zien op Videoland

Tussen 2006 en 2009 was Het Huis Anubis een gigantisch succes op Nickelodeon. Het programma won in 2007 zelfs de Gouden Stuiver (beste jeugdprogramma) en de laatste aflevering in 2009 trok zelf bijna een half miljoen kijkers, bizar veel voor een jeugdsoapserie. Mis je Het Huis Anubis nou eigenlijk een beetje? Goed nieuws want de Het Huis Anubis films komen vanaf 3 januari ook naar Videoland.

Een goed begin van 2021
Althans de serie was natuurlijk al in z’n geheel te zien op Videoland, maar de films waren dat nog niet. In 2008 verscheen namelijk de film ‘Anubis en het pad der 7 zonden’, in 2009 verscheen ‘Anubis en de wraak van Argus’ en in 2010 verscheen ‘Het Huis Anubis en de terugkeer van Sibuna’. Vanaf zonder 3 januari 2021 kunnen we dus weer lekker terug in de tijd, want dan staan deze films ook op Videoland.

Het Huis Anubis was een internationaal succes
Hoewel de serie Het Huis Anubis maar drie jaar heeft gedraaid, zijn er wel ruim 400 afleveringen van uitgezonden. De serie was van Studio 100 en werd uitgezonden op Nickelodeon. Maar wist je ook dat de serie ook in het buitenland een succes was?

In de Verenigde Staten en het Verenigd Koninkrijk had je bijvoorbeeld House of Anubis en bij onze oosterburen had je Das Haus Anubis. En in onder andere Zweden en Mexico werd de Nederlandse serie uitgezonden met nasynchronisatie. Oorspronkelijk was Het Huis Anubis overigens bedoeld voor kinderen van ongeveer acht jaar, maar omdat het soms best spannend werd keken er vooral veel oudere jongeren naar.

Nickelodeon India to Premiere 'Pinaki & Happy: Bhoot Bandhus' on Sonic on Monday 9th November 2020

Nickelodeon India announces tenth locally-produced IP, Happy & Pinaki - The Bhoot Bandhus; It adds 100+ hours of original animated content in the coming fiscal


Continuing the rich legacy of being India’s leading kids’ entertainment franchise in the category, Nickelodeon India has sustained the number one rank for the sixth year in a row. After achieving immense success with other home-grown intellectual properties (IPs) like Motu Patlu, Pakdam Pakdai, Shiva, Rudra, amongst others, Nickelodeon is all set to venture into yet another untapped space. Post the resounding success of nine IPs, the franchise is now set to introduce the first ever spooky-comic series in the category with the launch of their tenth Indigenous IP - Lego presents Happy & Pinaki - The Bhoot Bandhus on Sonic!

Produced by Delhi-based Tavrohi Animation, the CG-animated 3D show is fast paced, entertaining, spooky, combined with comedy which will take the young viewers on an adventurous joy ride starting Monday 9th November, airing weekdays at 11:30 am.


Taking the kids into a new world of fun, the show will portray an unusual family of ghosts, who adopt the central character of the show – Pinaki and raise him as one of their own. The high-octane comedy combined with some “Bhootbaazi” will take the viewers on a laughter ride with mysterious and hilarious stories of Pinaki and Happy. The show will illustrate daily adventurous of Pinaki & Happy as the fun unfolds when the bhoot world meets the real world. The show is directed by Ankur Chauhan. Legendary lyricist Gulzaar has once again scripted lyrics for the title track of the show and the music is created by Simaab Sen. The unique spooky-comic, home-grown animated show from the house of Nickelodeon will further strengthen the franchise’s diverse content portfolio. With over 700 hours of content the franchise today has the largest, immersive and the most versatile local content library in the category. The coming year will see further scaling of the content library with over 100 + hours of content, expected to be added through new episodes and made for television movies.

Continuing to build its robust content pipeline and bringing varied original programming, the Viacom18 owned kids broadcaster has announced its 10th homegrown animated comedy series, Pinaki & Happy – The Bhoot Bandhus.

Produced by Delhi based Tavrohi Animations, the new 3D animated show is fast paced, entertaining, spooky – perfect to take the young viewers on an adventurous joy ride starting 9 November, Monday at 11:30 am on Sonic.

Taking the kids into a new world of fun, the animated show will portray an unusual family of ghosts, who adopt a boy, the titular character, Pinaki, and raise him as one of their own. Fun and chaos ensues when both the worlds collide. The high-octane comedy combined with some ‘Bhootbaazi’ will take the viewers on a laughter ride with mysterious and hilarious stories of Pinaki and Happy. The show will illustrate daily adventures, familial love, friendship of Pinaki and Happy as the fun unfolds when the ‘bhoot world meets the real world’. 


Directed by Ankur Chauhan, the lyrics of the title track has been penned by the legendary Gulzar and the music composed by Simaab Sen. Sony YAY!’s Paap-O-Meter (featuring Bhoot Boss, Thakela and Pakela) is kind of a forerunner in this genre which has received amazing response and viewership numbers.

Kids’ entertainment franchise from Viacom18, Nickelodeon has announced the launch of its 10th home-grown IP in the form of a spooky-comic series called 'Pinaki & Happy - The Bhoot Bandhus' on Sonic from November 9.

Sonic is currently the number 4 kids' channel in the country by viewership and launching the show on the channel is part of the network's strategy to launch it into the top 3. The insight used for developing the show is based on Nickelodeon India's research on white spaces in kids' entertainment.

Year-Ender: Why 2020 has been the year of children on TV

Kids genre continues to see a 20-25% category growth when compared to last year

However, the rise in viewership hasn’t resulted in increase in advertising revenue.

2020 has been a tough year for everyone but more so for kids as they are cooped up in the house since March due to the pandemic. This has resulted in a rise in viewership for kids channels on television. As per the industry estimates, kids genre witnessed 40-47% rise in viewership during lockdown, that is between March-June. Even as viewership has stabilised with online classes, the genre continues to witness a high interaction, “During the lockdown, kids category saw over 45% growth in viewership. Further, the genre share which is usually at about 7% increased to as much as 9%. Of course, it has stabilised now back to 7% but we have still registered a high in viewership because the total TV viewership pie has grown. The genre continues to see a 20-25% category growth when compared to last year,” Nina Elavia Jaipuria, head – Hindi and Kids TV Network (COLORS and Nickelodeon India), Viacom18, told BrandWagon Online. 

Interestingly, while other genre of channels such as entertainment had resorted to reruns of old shows due to lockdown, kids genre was one of the few running original content besides launching new content. This is primarily due to the fact that animation content is planned well in advance. “We had planned well in advance for content which was to be aired in Q2 and Q3 of 2020 well ahead of time,” Abhishek Dutta, South Asia Network Head, POGO and Cartoon Network, said. 

From Pogo forming strategic partnerships with Prasar Bharti to simulcast Chota Bheem, to other networks launching their new shows ahead of schedule, to releasing interactive marketing tactics, broadcasters adopted new techniques this year to meet the growing demand for content. WarnerMedia’s POGO launched Titoo – Har Jawaab Ka Sawaal Hu in July and Smashing Simmba on Children’s day/Diwali. Meanwhile Cartoon network, WarnerMedia’s another kids channel, acquired and rolled out Bandbudh aur Budbak in April, when the show was originally meant to be aired in May. Similarly, Disney rolled out new series such as Guddu, Bapu and Gadget Guru Ganesha as summer releases while Viacom18’ s Nickelodeon and Sonic launched Ting Tong, and Pinaki and Happy – The Bhoot Bandhus in Diwali. For Dutta, home-grown content has resonated with audiences the most. “Home-grown content is currently the corner-stone of kids content in India and our strategy for both Pogo and Cartoon Network has been to strengthen our offerings of popular and premium home-grown kids entertainment content that offers a local flavour to our young viewers in India. This is primarily why this year we largely launched home-grown IPs,” he elaborated, adding that the network will launch another home-grown content next year titled Lambu-G Tingu-G, produced by Cosmos Maya. 

However, the rise in viewership hasn’t resulted in increase in advertising revenue. “The kids genre witnessed a drop in ad revenues due to a drop in the number of advertisers on account of the pandemic. While certain categories like Edtech or BFSI were a boon for the kids genre, they could not compensate for the drop in other category investments,” Vanita Keswani, CEO, Madison Media Sigma, explained.

The TV industry reported a 6.4% growth in advertising revenue in 2019 to reach Rs 32,000 crore, Ficci-EY report, revealed. Of this, kids channels account for 5% that is Rs 1,600 crore of the ad volume. According to industry estimates, the cost of a ten-second ad spot on kids channels such as Nick, Disney, among others ranges between Rs 1,000 – Rs 3,000 during prime time that is between 8 pm – 10 pm. However, while volume of ad for the genre declined in the first half of the fiscal, the category saw a revival of advertisements from September. As per BARC, the kids genre has seen a 15% increase in advertising volumes when compared to last year. This is because this year, the genre registered a lot of co-viewership from parents as well as kids. For Dutta, the genre has observed a change in advertising and this change is being observed more on a pan-regional level rather than local level wherein some advertisers who are not essentially kids advertising brands are coming on to the platform. “Due to the new normal where everything was going digital, we saw a bunch of new advertisers such as Vedantu, Whitehat Jr, Byju’s as well as ecommerce and e-wallets platforms like, Phonepe and AmazonPay coming on board, We had a good share of 50-50 kid and non-kid advertisers because of this,” Jaipuria stated.
