Drake Bell and Josh Peck Have 'Discussed the Possibility' of a 'Drake & Josh' Revival

The singer opens up about the possibility of reuniting with his longtime friend on-screen


Update (12/19) - A Nickelodeon source has reportedly revealed to unCrazed that a Drake & Josh reboot “is happening,” and the original cast will return for the Nickelodeon series.

According to Nick source, “scripts are drafted and the cast is heading for the table in 2020,” — in other words, a table read to review the scripts is slated for early 2020. The original cast are reported to be returning, including Drake Bell and Josh Peck, Miranda Cosgrove, Nancy Sullivan and Jonathan Goldstein with special guest appearances from Yvette Brown and Jerry Trainor.

The cast has open schedules for next year, with the source suggesting the start of production will be around “April, give or take,” and could see a Christmas 2020 release that allows the show to roll into 2021. unCrazed have also told cast-mates are being told by execs to “confirm nor deny” development of a reboot, “but either way, it’s happening.”

It's currently unknown whether show creator Dan Schneider will be part of the revival. The Schneider parted ways with Nickelodeon in March 2018 leaving the future of multiple shows with uncertainty. Schneider, before his departure, focussed on new projects and had the drive for new content creation, over rebooting old projects. A Nick source tells revealed that the 53-year-old feared the digital age would impact his career as a television producer, a business he became part of in 1984.

If Drake & Josh is revived, it's also unknown how the revival will be: it could be a TV movie, a series or a reunion of a series such as All That (similar to the upcoming Zoey 101 reunion). It's also unknown whether it'll air on Nickelodeon or on Netflix, as part of Nickelodeon's recent content partnership with the streamer.

Please note that this information has yet to be confirmed by Nickelodeon or any of the show's cast.

Drake Bell and Josh Peck are ready to reunite on screen — but not in the way fans might expect.

Bell stopped by People Now on Monday and opened up about the possibility of a Drake & Josh revival.

“Josh [Peck] has come up with a really cool idea — we’ve been talking,” he said. “So many things have to come together and actually happen to make that a reality.”

But while the “Fuego Lento” singer said there’s still a lot of details to be discussed among the pair, a reboot is “a lot closer than it’s ever been.”

“At least it’s on the table,” he said. “Now we’ve at least discussed the possibility of something happening.”

Drake & Josh originally aired on Nickelodeon from 2004-07. The sitcom starred Bell and Peck as stepbrothers navigating their new sibling relationship while trying to survive high school.


So what would an updated version of the hit sitcom look like? Bell said the new project wouldn’t just be an older version of their original characters.

“[We] want it to be something creative,” he explained. “It can’t be Drake and Josh in college. … It has to be something a little different, turn it on its head a little bit.”

Bell previously told PEOPLE that he’s excited about the prospect to work alongside Peck again.

“We’ve known each other for so long, and it really is once in a lifetime in this industry that you get to work with somebody and it clicks like that,” he said. “He’s just got an amazing comedic wit and incredible timing and he’s really smart and we really get along. So I think that it just kind of all goes together.”

Drake & Josh will be returning to our screens once the COVID pandemic has passed, according to our Nickelodeon insider.

Earlier this year, unCrazed broke the news that Drake Bell and Josh Peck would be returning to their roles in the 2000s-hit series, Drake & Josh.

In our first story about a reboot it was made clear to us that both actors would be sliding back into their TV step-brother characters before the year ends, but as it goes, COVID spoiled that for the production.

We have liaised with our sources … they are telling us that all castmates originally scheduled for the reboot – including Bell (Drake Parker) and Peck (Josh Nichols), Miranda Cosgrove (Megan Parker), Nancy Sullivan (Audrey Parker-Nichols) and Jonathan Goldstein (Walter Nichols) with special guest appearances from Yvette Brown (Helen) and Jerry Trainor (Crazy Steve) – are still involved and with production for other commitments of each castmate also being shifted for other projects, development is still going ahead without any major conflict.

Production was hugely delayed with the original schedule set for April 2020, but now the entertainment industry can better protect production teams, we are told filming will begin “January next year” unless “major State restrictions don’t permit production companies as essential occupations,” … it has been a difficult time for some of the bigger-budgeted shows and films due to the necessity of investing more on health and safety measures and COVID testing.

A table read was conducted over video call during the worldwide lockdown, which enhanced the development stage drastically in comparison to waiting until restrictions were eased as the year continued. It has been confirmed by our Nickelodeon insider that in early 2021, an official announcement will be made by the network that will also highlight a bunch of other reboots and re-visits to some pre-2010 classics in partnership with Netflix.

ViacomCBS to Close Legacy Streamers as Focus Shifts to Paramount+; Noggin Thought to Remain Operational

ViacomCBS is to shut down its smaller legacy streamers, such as MTV Hits, whose content will be added to its upcoming premium service Paramount+, amid a surge in subscribers for its existing SVOD and AVOD platforms.


The decision was revealed in the company’s Q3 earnings report and comes as the US media giant prepares to launch its revamped and renamed version of the existing CBS All Access. Other platforms potentially in the firing line include Comedy Central Now, though only MTV Hits was mentioned by name.

The move is not thought to affect Noggin, Nickelodeon's top-rated subscription-based interactive learning service for preschoolers, as Marc DeBevoise, ViacomCBS’s chief digital officer confirmed earlier this year that Nickelodeon will be keeping the service operational because of its unique interactive functionality and access to games.

However, the video content on Noggin, which includes popular preschool programming such as Dora the Explorer and PAW Patrol, will eventually become available on the rebranded All Access. It's currently unknown whether the programming will be available on both platforms, or only on Paramount+.

Speaking about the closure of its niche streaming services, ViacomCBS president and CEO Bob Bakish said that this action will create a “one-time headwind to streaming subscriber growth in Q4 as we set up for a much larger streaming service longer term.”

The move comes just over a month since ViacomCBS revealed a raft of new shows and the name for its soon-to-launch ‘super service’ OTT platform, with execs also outlining the streamer’s commissioning strategy and its international plans.

It will offer content from across ViacomCBS brands, including Nickelodeon, MTV, BET, Comedy Central, CBS, Paramount Television Studios, and Smithsonian Channel, as well as movies from Paramount Pictures. It is set to launch in the US in early 2021 and will then be expanded into Australia, Latin America and the Nordics.

Pluto TV – a ‘gateway to pay’

Bakish also outlined how ViacomCBS would use its fast-growing AVOD service Pluto TV, whose CEO Tom Ryan was recently appointed at the head of a new-look streaming structure.

The CEO said that the ad-supported service would “serve as a gateway to and funnel for our pay services” with the AVOD expected to draw in potential subscribers to Paramount+, which is “on track” to launch next year.

Bakish revealed that ViacomCBS streaming services had leaped to 17.9 million domestic subscribers in 2020, an increase of 72% on the previous year. The company now expects to finish the year with at least 19 million domestic streaming subscribers, up from original guidance of 16 million.

Bakish said that ViacomCBS will also launch Pluto TV in new markets such as Brazil in Q4, followed by France and Italy in 2021.

He pointed to “strong demand for sports like UEFA and the NFL, originals like Star Trek: Lower Decks and CBS network content like Big Brother and Love Island” on CBS All Access and “the trifecta of original programming, including The Chi, Billions, the final season of Homeland” on Showtime OTT.

Covid’s content impact

Touching on the challenges posed by Covid-19 (coronavirus), Bakish revealed that despite the pandemic, original programming plans for Paramount+ are well underway with “a deep roster of original series that leans heavily on our franchises.

These include The Offer, a scripted limited series that will tell the story behind the making of The Godfather, which Bakish described as “one of Paramount Pictures’ most iconic franchises.”

He also highlighted a new edition of music series Behind The Music, as well as Real Criminal Minds, a true crime docuseries based on of CBS’ Criminal Minds and Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years, a new original children series spun out of Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants. Bakish also hinted that the service could look at revisiting the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender for new stories.

Paramount+ will combine lives sports, breaking news and entertainment programming with what Bakish claimed would be “a very strong original slate” of programming. He said the service would add about 10,000 additional hours to the existing CBS All Access line up between now and the launch, fuelled by the incorporation of flagship streaming brands into the combined offering.

The CEO said ViacomCBS would continue to license content to third party services because it had “too much” to profitably exploit everything on its own. He added that third-party “monetisation is overwhelmingly based on a rental model, so the IP returns to us over time for other downstream uses”.

He said that ViacomCBS was also moving towards a co-exclusive or non-exclusive licensing model for content from the likes of Comedy Central so that Paramount+ would have access to that content.

ViacomCBS posted revenues of US$6.1 billion for the quarter, down 9%, and adjusted OIBDA of US$1.1 billion, down 12%.

The Nickelodeon UK Network's ratings were a bit of a mixed bag again this week, according to BARB data. Ratings were down quite a bit for Nickelodeon this week. Horrid Henry was the clear winner of the week for the channel, with the live-action movie taking the top spot. It's Pony also made a welcome appearance.

Over on Nicktoons, new animated series Ollie's Pack got off to a strong start, with acquired series Mr Magoo and Dorg Van Dango also making appearances alongside regulars SpongeBob SquarePants, Horrid Henry and The Loud House.

Meanwhile, Peppa Pig and PAW Patrol continued their reins on Nick Jr. and Nick Jr. Too respectively. Viewing figures were slightly up compared to the previous week (Oct. 19-25).

Nickelodeon enters orbit for an epic hour-long premiere event of The Astronauts, the network’s first co-production with Imagine Kids+Family. The brand-new live-action series follows a group of kids who embark on the adventure of a lifetime when they are mistakenly launched into space. The Astronauts is executive produced by Imagine Entertainment Executive Chairmen Brian Grazer and Ron Howard, and Imagine Kids+Family President Stephanie Sperber. The series is created by Daniel Knauf (Carnivàle, The Blacklist), who also serves as writer and executive producer. The first two episodes of The Astronauts premiere back-to-back commercial on Friday, Nov. 13, at 7 p.m. (ET/PT) on Nickelodeon.
In the hour-long premiere of The Astronauts, "COUNTDOWN / DAY 1" the spacecraft Odyssey II is set to launch on a mission to retrieve a foreign object that could potentially save mankind.  The plan quickly goes awry when five untrained kids use their parents’ security clearances to sneak onto the empty ship.  Soon after they board, the onboard AI system triggers the launch sequence.  Unable to stop the ship from blasting off, the kids must assume their new role as astronauts and brave harrowing tasks, as their parents rush to find a way to take control of the situation.


The group traveling together through space are: Samantha “Samy” Sawyer-Wei, played by Miya Cech (Are You Afraid of the Dark?, Always Be My Maybe); Elliott Combs, played by Bryce Gheisar (Wonder, A Dog’s Purpose); Martin Taylor, played by Keith L. Williams (Good Boys, The Last Man on Earth); Doria Taylor, played by Kayden Grace Swan (A Black Lady Sketch Show); and Will Rivers, played by Ben Daon (Child’s Play).  Matilda, the ship’s onboard AI system, is voiced by Paige Howard (The Employer, Adventureland).

'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' Producers Reveal What They Would Change About The Film 30 Years Later

The first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film is celebrating its 30th anniversary, and ComicBookMovie.com recently caught up with producer Kim Dawson and writer Bobby Herbeck. Scroll below to hear the stories they had to tell!


It has been 30 years since the very first live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie hit theaters. Whether it's because of the cast and crew giving 110% or the fans that continue to keep the film relevant (or both!), the film is considered not only a cult classic, but easily the best of the bunch. While three decades sounds like a long time, TMNT really hasn't dated, and fans of all ages continue to quote the movie like it released yesterday.

One major reason for this is producer Kim Dawson enlisting writer Bobby Herbeck to bring some life to the turtles and make them not only relatable, but timeless. However, while the film is seen as perfect in every regard by those who love it, that doesn't mean that the minds behind it wouldn't want to change anything, given a chance.

CBC recently sat down with Kim and Bobby and picked their brains about the classic film, and they asked what they would change if they had the opportunity. Surprisingly, the answers weren't what they would have ever expected!

CBC: Bringing the film to the big screen, what was it like that first time sitting there in the theater and seeing all of that hard work pay off?

Kim Dawson: The day before the actual release of the picture, I was in Las Vegas, and we had a test screening where you invite an audience. The audience has to score the picture. In this case, we had about three hundred people in the theater, and there were maybe two hundred kids and their parents.

Our scores amongst the kids and their parents were off the charts. They were in the 96, 97% category, having recommended a picture to their friends. When it did open, it opened to a strong box office of about $10,000 per screening, which is very unusual for a picture like this.

Bobby Herbeck: It held the independent number for a long time.

Kim Dawson: Right up until the Blair Witch Project. We did 133 million at the box office domestically, and Blair Witch did 135 million.

Bobby Herbeck: I only found this out a few years ago that the first one did not play in Asia. They thought we were making fun of martial arts. If it would have played in Asia, the box office number would have been astronomical. It was still a big number for that time. We never thought 30 years ago, 32 years ago, that we would be sitting here celebrating the 30th anniversary because the critics beat the hell out of it.

Said it was a piece of crap or a one-trick pony. We believed in it. It's a blessing that 30 years later, this is still going. Seth Rogan and his team are writing the seventh one for Nickelodeon, not Paramount.

CBC: If you could go back and change anything, would you?

Bobby Herbeck: When I saw the rough cut, I never liked the little hand puppet cheesy looking Turtles that went "PIZZA!" when they were babies. And I said you're not leaving that in, right? He said, no, we're going to change that. Then I go to the premiere, and there it is. Now, I like it because it's so campy now. People don't care. They think it's cool.

Kim Dawson: If I were to change any one thing, it would be to have given us more time to shoot the picture. We had a tight budget and a tight schedule. I know Steve Baron wanted to do some other things with the picture, and we just ran out of time. Part of that was due to the fact that we were working in Wilmington in hundred-degree temperatures with real high humidity. That causes the suits to break down a lot. Judith, she used to call it a major Turtles meltdown because they broke fairly regularly when it got hot. Those actors suffered in the process. That's all in how it would have changed.

CBC: Have you ever worn a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle costume?

Bobby Herbeck: No, I haven't. Someone gave me the mask a long time ago. But no, I am too old.

CBC: If somebody gifted you one, would you put it on?

Bobby Herbeck: Sure I would!

CBC: I'm pretty sure Casey Jones attempted to murder Shredder with the trash compactor. But I was curious, was it always the plan to bring him back for the second movie?

Kim Dawson: It was a commercial thing. We weren't sure we were going to make a sequel. We had the rights to do three, but we weren't sure until the box office. It was a week and a half after the opening that Golden Harvest ordered the second picture. I think it was not knowing what was going to happen, where you can leave it over a cliff hanger. You want to give yourself options at the end of the day. It may have been a production decision.

Bobby Herbeck: Did you guys see our pizza party in may that was on? We had a pizza party. It's on Youtube. We had the entire cast Kim and I, Brian Hanson, it was great for World Turtle Day. Many people don't know that Kevin Clash, who played Splinter, is the guy who does Elmo on Sesame Street.

Nickelodeon to Take Part in Argentina Comic Con's ACC Live Stream

Nick News Mini: Nickelodeon Latin America (Latinoamérica) will be taking part in the 2020 Argentina Comic Con!


Like many other pop culture conventions this year, Argentina Comic Con will be moving online, with panels streamed. Retitled ACC Live Stream, the virtual convention will take over November 13, 14 and 15, with fans being able to stream panels for free via acclivestream.com and ViacomCBS' Pluto TV.
