BURBANK, Calif.--August 10, 2020--Nickelodeon and CBS Television Studios today announced that award-winning director and producer Ben Hibon (Codehunters) will direct, co-executive produce and serve as the creative lead of Nickelodeon’s all-new animated series Star Trek: Prodigy. The CG-animated series, which expands the Star Trek Universe, follows a group of lawless teens who discover a derelict Starfleet ship and use it to search for adventure, meaning and salvation. Star Trek: Prodigy will debut exclusively on Nickelodeon in 2021 for a new generation of fans.
“Ben’s contributions to the world of animation are immeasurable, and we are so lucky to have his vision and creative genius on Star Trek: Prodigy. As an incredible storyteller and a world builder with a distinct vision, his original approach paired with this beloved property will bring the characters to life in a whole new way,” said Ramsey Naito, Executive Vice President, Animation Production and Development, Nickelodeon Group.

Hibon’s incredible gift as a storyteller parlayed him into directing the animated “Tale of Three Brothers” sequence in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (PART 1), which was nominated as part of Warner Bros.’ VFX submission to the Academy Awards. Hibon along with David Yates also won the British Animation Award for this sequence.
Star Trek: Prodigy will be from CBS’ Eye Animation Productions, CBS Television Studios’ new animation arm; Secret Hideout; and Roddenberry Entertainment. Alex Kurtzman, Heather Kadin, Katie Krentz, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth will serve as executive producers alongside Kevin and Dan Hageman. Mac Middleton will serve as a producer with Aaron Baiers as co-executive producer.

Hibon’s most recognizable claim to fame might stem from his work on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1. Update (8/16) - Based on the show's premise, Prodigy is expected to take place during the Discovery season 3 timeline, set after the fall of the Federation.
Update (10/7) - Alex Kurtzman has revealed to SFX that, although production on live-action Star Trek series have been hit hard by the on-going COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, with shooting only just ramping back up, the teams on Lower Decks and Prodigy, the new Nickelodeon series, have been working non-stop, however, there's still “quite a lot of animation left to do”.

Nickelodeon Arabia Announces Spooktacular Halloween 2020 Highlights
Families in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) can ramp up the spook-factor this Halloween with a new line-up of creepy family-friendly television shows on Nickelodeon!
Nickelodeon has a fang-tastically creepy schedule of family-friendly TV this month.
Every Friday at 6pm starting 16th October, kids can catch a brand-new series called Danger Force (دانجر فورس) in which Captain Man and Schwoz from Henry Danger create a fake school to train kids to harness their uncontrollable superpowers so that they can fight crime.
Tweens can catch season two of Just Add Magic (جست أد ماجيك) every day at 7.10pm to find out what happens when three besties have their world turned upside down after discovering a magical cookbook.
On Halloween itself (Saturday 31st October 2020) three hour-long special episodes of Are You Afraid of the Dark? (آر يو أفريد أوف ذا دارك), will be on TV at 3.50pm.
Tiny tots can switch over to Nick Jr. to see pups Ryder, Marshall and Skye in a Paw Patrol (باو باترول) marathon on Saturday October 10 at 2pm and new episodes of The Adventures of Paddington (ذا أدفنتشرس أوف بادينغتون) from Monday to Sunday at 4.25pm from Saturday October 12.
A brand-new series called Barbapapa premieres on Monday October 26 at 8.10pm and is about an off-the-wall family by the same name, and Butterbean’s Café (باتربينز كافيه) which is aimed at pre-school kids, is back for its second season.
Grab the popcorn, and a cushion to hide behind, to watch eerie episodes of Blue’s Clues & You (بلوز كلوز آند يو), The Adventures of Paddington and Rusty Rivets (راستي ريفتس) on Saturday October 31.
On NickToons, kids can enjoy brand-new series premiere Ollie’s Pack (أوليز باك) every Sunday at 5.45pm. The comedy show follows Ollie Allen, a 13- year old boy who, with the help of his best buddies Cleo and Bernie and monster trainer Captain Wowski, balances being a regular kid with fulfilling his new duties as 'The Chosen One'.
Brand-new episodes of Dorg Van Dango (دورغ فان دانغو), about a normal child who has magical besties, are on every Monday and Friday at 4.10pm.

Wotch Creations’ Smiley Halves TV Ad Campaign to Air on Nickelodeon UK Throughout October 2020
The ad will air on Nickelodeon, Nick Jr. and Nick Jr. Too throughout October, to raise awareness of Wotch’s new collectible range.
The first official TV advertising campaign for Wotch Creations’ collectible range Smiley Halves is now underway across the Nickelodeon network in the UK, following a successful launch this month.
The TV campaign commenced on Thursday 1st October 2020, and is running throughout the month In total, the 30-second advert, which demonstrates the collectible, swappable and colourful nature of Smiley-Halves, will be shown 414 times – an average of 14 times a day – across Nick, Nick Jr. and Nick Jr. Too. A shorter 20-second advert will also appear on the Nickelodeon YouTube channel.
Holly Stafford-Smith, director of Wotch Creations, told Toy World: “The pre-launch and launch activities have been really well received, and everyone who has ordered and received their Smiley-Halves has been really excited to start to ‘Collect and Connect’. We’re encouraging kids to come up with all sorts of wonderful and wacky games to play involving the Smiley-Halves, and to share their ideas with us via social media. We’ve invested substantially in influencer campaigns, content for which will be being posted within the next week or so – I’m really excited to see what content the influencers can come up with.”
Wotch has also announced a live draw taking place at 6pm tomorrow (Thursday 8th October) to reveal which limited edition Smiley-Halves will be joining the line-up for a limited time. Rogen and Goldberg are rebooting 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' and making a movie with the director of 'Call Me by Your Name'
Rogen and Goldberg are currently hard at work reviving the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" franchise with an upcoming animated movie for Nickelodeon. It will be directed by Jeff Rowe ("Connected") and written by "Neighbors" franchise scribe Brendan O'Brien. It marks the first time Point Grey has a legacy IP to play around with, and it's all the more special for Rogen and Goldberg as they are big fans of the heroes in a half shell.
"When I look at 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' the teenage part was weirdly what stuck out to me the most," Rogen said. "I think one thing we've been pretty consistently good at over the years is creating material about teenagers, from 'Blockers,' 'Good Boys,' and 'Superbad.' That was really what became exciting for us is how do we make a great action-adventure movie that's also a great teenage movie?"
Goldberg said the duo's personal interest became evident to everyone on the "Turtles" project in a recent call when he and Rogen found out some story notes were given to O'Brien that they didn't know about.
"We freaked out more than normal," Goldberg said. "They were just shocked by that, but we were like, 'Guys, we just really care about this.'"

And as someone who loves teenage movies, and who’s made a lot of teenage movies, and who literally got their start in their entire profession by writing a teenage movie, the idea of kind of honing in on that element was really exciting to us. I mean, not disregarding the rest, but really using that as kind of a jumping off point for the film.”

30 Playable Racers and 70 Pit Crew Members Featured in Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2, Available Now on Xbox One
Hello! Kyle with GameMill here. I made sure to put it in the headline because it is kind of a staggering number, but Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2 has 30 playable racers and 70 crew members all borrowed from various Nickelodeon shows covering over 25 years of Nickelodeon properties.
You race as classic Nickelodeon characters like Tommy Pickles from “Rugrats” (don’t think too hard about why a baby is driving) and Rocko from his own modern life, as well as more recent characters like Lincoln Loud from “The Loud House.” There is even a real, human person in Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2 with JoJo Siwa – a first for the Nickelodeon Kart Racers series. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are also present, alongside both Ang from “Avatar: The Last Airbender” and Korra from “The Legend of Korra” – shows that have been experiencing well-deserved resurgences thanks to their recent appearance on Netflix. It’s the biggest collection of Nickelodeon characters and properties that have ever been gathered into a single game.
The roster of characters is great, but the actual, mechanical Kart racing has also received an update since 2018’s Nickelodeon Kart Racers. Along with picking your racer, you choose from 70 optional pit crew members which will add all kinds of customizable bonuses. You can add Lynn Loud Jr. to your crew, for example, to get a boost every time you collect enough slime, or Eddie the Squirrel from “CatDog” to drop an “Invader Zim” lawn gnome when you drive through an item box. The pit crew roster ranges from obvious cameos, like Gary the Snail from “SpongeBob SquarePants”, to the more obscure like Eugene from “Hey Arnold!” who occasionally gives you a boost after you recover from getting hit.
There are more tracks this time around and you can also customize your kart’s engine, wheels, exhaust pipe, and look to really take ownership of your favorite racer, kart, and crew. And then you can take that racer online to compete against other players, or play with up to three other players locally. You can do a proper race and see who gets first place, or play in the Kids’ Choice Awards or Double Dare arenas in free-for-all, or the Control the Golden Spatula mode.
By covering more than 25 years of Nickelodeon, it’s the kind of game parents can easily play with their kids. You can play as the classic characters you watched growing up, and the young ones can play as the new characters kicking off the eternal debate of who is better (even though, privately, we all know the classics are the best).
Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2 is available now on Xbox One and will be backwards compatible on the Xbox Series X|S when those consoles launch in November.

Hasbro Confirms Conversations to Bring 'Power Rangers' to Animation
Hasbro has recently confirmed that they are looking to produce a animated Power Rangers at the Festival of Licensing, an online licensing event with Hasbro’s participation!
Yesterday the folks at Mega Power Brasil had a panel with representatives from Hasbro and Entertainment One (eOne) who had some interesting things to say about the future of the long-running franchise.
The Hasbro reps featured on the panel included Paula Kupfer (Hasbro Global Promotion Director), Casey Collins (Hasbro Vice President and Global Manager), Marianne James (Hasbro Consumer Division Vice President) Michael Kelly (Hasbro’s Global Vice President of Publications) and Matthew Proulx ( Hasbro’s Vice President for Location-Based Experiences).
HASBRO TEASES THE FUTURE OF POWER RANGERS
During the Festival of Licensing Hasbro was asked a question that got us fans talking:
Question: “The latest movie schedule didn’t feature the upcoming Power Rangers reboot. Is this still in the works?
Hasbro’s answer: “Power Rangers is a beloved property. We are really excited about the next season of Dino Fury. I think fans are gonna love that. As we partner with eOne, we are exploring all the different content for Power Rangers; including animation. So, [we have] a lot of projects in the works. To announce exactly what the road-map is, we’ll have more clarity by next year.”
In this quote Hasbro confirms that the upcoming Power Rangers movie, which Hasbro will be producing with Paramount Pictures, is still in development, however, more interestingly they confirm plans to bring the franchise to animation to some shape or form.
This is very interesting news to hear especially considering the rumors of Hasbro ceasing their partnership with Toei, including the use of footage from Super Sentai for the Power Rangers television series after the season or seasons of Dino Fury.
It is possible that Hasbro could be using an animated series to continue the franchise after Dino Fury is over. This is just speculation at this stage, however.
Speaking of which @D3rachi on Twitter about a week ago discovered that Bandai (who co-owns Super Sentai with Toei) no longer lists their trademark as Super Sentai (Power Rangers) but now just simply Super Sentai.
Hey so remember that rumour going around that Toei and Hasbro were ending their relationship regarding Power Rangers? Magalie Laguerre-Wilkinson Joins Nickelodeon as Vice President of News Programming and Executive Producer of Net’s Rebooted Nick News
BURBANK, Calif.--October 06, 2020--Nickelodeon has named CBS News’ 60 Minutes veteran producer and Emmy and Peabody Award-winner Magalie Laguerre-Wilkinson as Vice President of News Programming for the leading kids’ network, as well as Executive Producer of the recently rebooted Nick News series. In her newly created role, Laguerre-Wilkinson will spearhead Nick’s commitment of speaking to kids about the news and issues of the day they care about most, overseeing all aspects of research, development and execution of news segments across Nickelodeon’s platforms. For long-form news content, she will serve as Executive Producer of the net’s heralded Nick News series, which was recently rebooted in June with the acclaimed Kids Race and Unity special, hosted by Alicia Keys and which Laguerre-Wilkinson co-executive produced. Based in New York, she will report to Brian Robbins, President of ViacomCBS Kids & Family Entertainment.
Said Robbins, “Magalie is a gifted journalist and producer with a long-proven ability to communicate the news of the day with compassion, empathy and precision. Kids are well aware of the issues that affect their families and the world, and the talent and experience Magalie brings will serve as the foundation for how we aid or spark important conversations for our audience.”
Laguerre-Wilkinson joins Nickelodeon from CBS News’ 60 Minutes, America’s most watched news program, where she served for over 15 years as an Associate Producer and Producer on stories for Ed Bradley, Lesley Stahl, Bob Simon, Steve Kroft, Anderson Cooper, and more. She was the key producer on one of the broadcast’s most memorable and inspiring stories about the Kimbanguist Symphony Orchestra in the Democratic Republic of Congo, which won Peabody and Emmy accolades.
She has reported from far corners of the world, while also covering domestic stories including Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans and Sandy in New York. Most recently, she produced stories on the political divide in the United States with Oprah Winfrey as a contributing correspondent, as well as profiles of French street artist, JR and the new music director of the New York Philharmonic, Jaap van Zweden. An interview host at Carnegie Council’s Ethics Matter and a producer and reporter for CUNY TV’s Arts in the City, Laguerre-Wilkinson previously worked as correspondent for CBS Evening News and producer for NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw.
The original Nick News, created, written, and anchored by Linda Ellerbee, and produced by her company, Lucky Duck Productions, aired on Nickelodeon for 25 years, ending when Ellerbee retired in 2016. Nick News won 10 Emmys, a Peabody, a Columbia DuPont, and the prestigious Edward R. Murrow award for Journalistic Excellence, the first and only time it was given to a children’s program. Nick News was noted for its ability to show kids respect, and for the direct way it explained world events,—including 9/11, U.S. wars from the first Gulf War through The Iraqi Invasion, presidential politics, HIV-AIDS and Hurricane Katrina—and for always giving kids a voice and a safe place to question their world.

IMC Toys Strikes New Partnership with Nickelodeon UK for Cry Babies Magic Tears Content
Cry Babies Magic Tears heads to Nickelodeon
Going live at the end of September, animated Cry Babies Magic Tears short form content follows a host of IMC Toys’ Cry Babies characters.
IMC Toys has announced a deal with Nickelodeon UK for its Cry Babies Magic Tears short form animated content. The episodes, which are based on the company’s best-selling collectible range, started to be broadcast on Nick Jr. at the end of September. The linear content is being further supported with a dedicated digital hub, which is linked to NickJr.co.uk and hosts content and videos.
The partnership was brokered by Generation Entertainment.
The partnership, designed to reinforce brand awareness and engagement, will reach over 1m kids in the UK on the Nick Jr. channel between September and December. The partnership will also extend onto Nick Jr.’s social channels.
A spokesperson for IMC Toys commented: “By partnering with Nickelodeon we will build on our existing Cry Babies Magic Tears community, while further increasing brand awareness and engaging younger children with a host of new content developed for autumn 2020.”
Beyond the partnership with Nickelodeon, a strong mix of traditional, sponsorship, digital, social and influencer-led campaigns are scheduled to commence from the summer holiday period, with additional bursts planned for hero lines from September through to December.
Ranges including Cry Babies Magic Tears, Cry Babies, Bloopies, Bloopies Shellies, and VIP Pets will be supported with a collection of 10”, 20”, and 30” spots aired across terrestrial, satellite, and video-on-demand platforms. Placements include solus adverts for each of the ranges, complemented by combined spots for Cry Babies and Bloopies Shellies.
IMC Toys says the integration of a robust TV advertising programme, with digital and social targeting, reflects the company’s commitment to its key ranges within the UK/Ireland market. Full marketing support is in place for each of the brands, including high-profile social and influencer campaigns, pre-roll placements, continued TV sponsorships and new webisode content on IMC’s YouTube entertainment channel, Kitoons.
Originally launched in 2016, Cry Babies Magic Tears has sold over 5m units in 50 countries. IMC has expanded this best-selling range with the Winged House Series 2, which will feature a range of new babies to collect, each hidden inside a shimmering winged house. Kids feed the baby water, squeeze its belly and watch it cry coloured tears. Each baby comes with six different glitter accessories including a winged bottle, a dummy and either a bow and toy wagon or a bib and a highchair, as well as personalised stickers and a customised blanket. There are 12 different babies to collect including a rare baby that has a colour changing onesie.
The Cry Babies Paci House Series 2 features babies hidden inside a dummy shaped house which opens with tears. Kids use the pipette to drop tears on the chimney and make it pop open. Each baby comes with eight accessories including four customised to each doll. There are six babies to collect in the range, including an exclusive rare character with a glow in the dark onesie.
