RRTV Grants ViacomCBS Permission to Broadcast Nickelodeon and Nicktoons in Gibraltar
The Czech Radio and Television Council (RRTV) has granted Prague-based ViacomCBS Networks International Czech s.r.o. extensions on a raft of its broadcast licenses. Under the license extensions, ViacomCBS can distribute Nickelodeon via satellite in Gibraltar, as well as Nicktoons via IPTV in the British Overseas Territory.
Additionally, ViacomCBS can now extend MTV Hits International's reach to Gibraltar, Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Venezuela, Uruguay, Paraguay, Saint Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago, Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao, Saba, Saint-Eustache, Saint Martin, Barbados, Jamaica, Dominica, Bahamas, Falkland Islands, Bermuda and Cayman Islands, via satellite TV, as well as MTV Rocks International and MTV Music 24 to Gibraltar, also via satellite.
RRTV has also extended the VH1 European satellite license to other countries - Gibraltar, Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Venezuela, Uruguay, Paraguay, Saint Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago, Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Saba, Saint-Eustache, Saint Martin, Barbados, Jamaica, Dominica, Bahamas, Falkland Islands, Bermuda and the Cayman Islands. Thanks to this, the European version of VH1 will also appear outside the European continent.
At the same time, ViacomCBS returned the satellite license to the Comedy Central Extra channel, which ceased broadcasting earlier this month. The Council issued a certificate to that effect.
Update (13/8) - In additional news, RRTV has granted ViacomCBS Networks International Czech s.r.o. permission to broadcast Nickelodeon via satellite in Croatia!

Mondo Unveils SpongeBob Tiki Mug Collection
SpongeBob SquarePants debuted on Nickelodeon on May 1, 1999. Do you know what that means? The show is now old enough to buy alcohol. And we know just how the denizens of Bikini Bottom should celebrate coming of age. They should throw a huge luau at the Krusty Krab and serve cocktails in Mondo’s new line of SpongeBob tiki mugs. - And there’s already a “Pineapple Under the Sea” recipe for them to try.
Drink Under the Sea With SpongeBob SquarePants:
The latest addition to Mondo’s line of pop culture tiki mugs celebrate Nickelodeon’s beloved animated series. There are three different options, all designed by Joe Allard and sculpted by Ramirez Studios. The first is a 32-ounce one of SpongeBob himself. The mug ($50) features our favorite fry-cook looking like he might have had a few too many tiki mugs himself. It’s like he’s giving his concerned friends a double thumbs-up while they get him some water.
SpongeBob’s best friend Patrick Star also has his own mug ($60). The big lovable starfish can hold 25 ounces, but looks shocked that anyone would be drinking out of the top of his pointy head. The sculpt is inspired by the "Surprised Patrick" meme.
Finally there’s one based on Squidward Tentacles’s moai-inspired house. The 30-ounce drinkware ($55) is much less of a buzzkill than Squidward would be.
Each mug comes with three colorway options. They are all available in a base color that matches the series. And all three designs feature Riptide and Driftwood variants. The Riptide mugs have a blue/brown glaze, and the Driftwood mugs come with a reactive brown glaze. All nine versions are available to order right now at mondoshop.com.
Check out the Mondo x SpongeBob SquarePants Tiki Mug collection below!
Mondo SpongeBob SquarePants Tiki Mug Details:
"Are you ready for Mondo's very first SpongeBob SquarePants Tiki Mugs, kids? AYE AYE, CAPTAIN!
For more than twenty years, Nickelodeon's unapologetically silly animated farce has entertained children and grownups alike. We're big fans of SpongeBob, and sooooo excited to introduce you to three mugs in three different colorways based on our favorite Krusty Krab employee, his starfish sidekick Patrick, and the moai-inspired home of their neighbor, Squidward Tentacles. Each sculpt is available in three colorways – Regular Variants matching their series coloring, the Riptide Variant with a blue/brown glaze, and the Driftwood Variant featuring a reactive brown glaze."
Mondo Pineapple Under The Sea Drink:
Mondo also shared a perfect recipe for them. Their “Pineapple Under the Sea” cocktail calls for pineapple juice, rum, blue curaçao, and cream of coconut, along with a pineapple wedge and maraschino cherries for garnish. But only people—and TV shows—that are 21 and older should drink them.
If you'd rather use these SpongeBob-inspired tiki mugs for something other than drinking your favorite beverage, they work extremely well as house planters too, and these look to be the perfect size for that purpose.

What Did You Think of the New 'The Casagrandes' Episode 'New Roomie'? | Nickelodeon Fan Poll
What did you think of the brand new The Casagrandes episode "New Roomie"? Vote in the poll and sound off in the comments below!
Netflix Acquires ‘SpongeBob: Sponge on the Run’ International Rights From ViacomCBS
Netflix has acquired the international distribution rights for the latest SpongeBob film, insiders familiar with the deal have told Variety.
The streaming giant picked up the foreign rights for The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run, the twice-delayed Paramount Animation title from Nickelodeon Movies and Paramount Pictures. The film is one of many theatrical releases thwarted by the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic this year.
The deal excludes China, where Netflix has no presence, one source said. Paramount also has plans to release the film in Canada at some point, added another individual, after which Netflix will stream the film in that territory.
Representatives for Netflix and Viacom had no immediate comment.
The international release date for the third film in the SpongeBob franchise is not set, but Netflix is not beholden to the 2021 domestic debut before offering the film to its customers abroad.
Paramount announced in late June that Sponge on the Run would forgo theaters entirely and debut as a paid VOD title in early 2021, before heading to its sister streaming service CBS All Access as a home entertainment exclusive.
While the film’s budget is unknown, the animation hybrid’s latest installment cost roughly $60 million. MRC co-financed the project. Between the Netflix and CBS All Access deals, Paramount has been made whole on the cost of the project, said sources.
The acquisition is one of several recent transactions between Netflix and Paramount, including the shuttling of films like Kumail Nanjiani and Issa Rae’s Lovebirds, Aaron Sorkin’s Trial of the Chicago 7, and Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman.
Update (8/13) - Netflix has added placeholder pages for The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run to its international platforms, including in the UK! Netflix are billing the movie as a "Netflix Original":
The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run follows SpongeBob SquarePants, his best friend Patrick Star and the rest of the gang from Bikini Bottom in the first-ever all CGI SpongeBob motion picture event. After SpongeBob’s beloved pet snail Gary is snail-napped, he and Patrick embark on an epic adventure to The Lost City of Atlantic City to bring Gary home. As they navigate the delights and dangers on this perilous and hilarious rescue mission, SpongeBob and his pals prove there’s nothing stronger than the power of friendship.
Directed by Tim Hill, voice cast of The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run includes Tom Kenny, Awkwafina, Clancy Brown, Rodger Bumpass, Bill Fagerbakke, Carolyn Lawrence, and Douglas Lawrence, and guest stars including Keanu Reeves (as a tumbleweed named Sage), Awkwafina, Reggie Watts and Snoop Dog.
Its the third SpongeBob film, after 2004’s The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie and 2015’s The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water. Those movies were commercially successful, earning over $450 million globally combined.

Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko Depart Netflix's Live-Action 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' Adaptation
Avatar: The Last Airbender co-creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko have announced in separate open letters to fans that they are no longer involved with Netflix's live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender adaptation, citing creative differences. The creators left the production in June 2020. Both DiMartino and Konietzko will remain deepy involved in the Avatar universe.
In his open letter, DiMartino said:
"An open letter to Avatar: The Last Airbender fans
Many of you have been asking me for updates about the Avatar live-action Netflix series. I can finally tell you that I am no longer involved with the project. In June of this year, after two years of development work, Bryan Konietzko and I made the difficult decision to leave the production.
When Bryan and I signed on to the project in 2018, we were hired as executive producers and showrunners. In a joint announcement for the series, Netflix said that it was committed to honoring our vision for this retelling and to supporting us on creating the series. And we expressed how excited we were for the opportunity to be at the helm. Unfortunately, things did not go as we had hoped.
Look, things happen. Productions are challenging. Unforeseen events arise. Plans have to change. And when those things have happened at other points during my career, I try to be like an Air Nomad and adapt. I do my best to go with the flow, no matter what obstacle is put in my way. But even an Air Nomad knows when it's time to cut their losses and move on.
I started to reevaluate what is truly important in my life and what I wanted to do with what's left of it. I took some advice from Uncle Iroh. I looked inward and started asking myself the big question: "Who are you and what do you want?"
I also sought wisdom from Stoic philosophers who were big on differentiating between what is within our control and what isn't. I realized I couldn't control the creative direction of the series, but I could control how I responded. So, I chose to leave the project. It was the hardest professional decision I've ever had to make, and certainly not one that I took lightly, but it was necessary for my happiness and creative integrity.
And who knows? Netflix's live-action adaptation of Avatar has the potential to be good. It might turn out to be a show many of you end up enjoying. But what I can be certain about is that whatever version ends up on-screen, it will not be what Bryan and I had envisioned or intended to make.
I also want to be clear that this doesn't mean the end of my involvement in the Avatar universe. These stories and characters are important to me and the renewed interest and excitement in Avatar and Korra has been inspiring to see.
Writing this letter has left me with a very heavy heart. I know many of you will be disappointed and frustrated by this news. I get it. I share your disappointment and frustration. I also recognize this creative setback is small compared to the problems we're all facing as a society right now.
Thankfully, Iroh shared some wisdom for that, too: "Sometimes life is like this dark tunnel. You can't always see the light at the end of the tunnel, but if you just keep moving you will come to a better place."
May we all keep moving and come to a better place.
Thanks for reading and for your continued enthusiasm for the Avatar universe.
With gratitude,
Michael Dante DiMartino"
In a separate statement, Konietzko said:
"Before I get to the crux of this statement, I would like to make it clear that I am very aware and appreciate of the fact that I am in an exceedingly fortunate position, and that the following issues are indeed good problems to have - even more so now that we are in the grips of a global pandemic and a cratering economy which have left millions unemployed. With that crucial context, here is the big news from my little world.
Michael DiMartino and I recently chose to leave Netflix's live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender, the series he and I created together in 2002. We will have no involvement in the project moving forward.
This is probably the most difficult decision I have ever made. But there is no doubt in my mind it was absolutely the right choice.
When Netflix brought me on board to run this series alongside Mike two years ago, they made a very public promise to support out vision. Unfortunately, there was no follow-through on that promise. Thought I got to work with some great individuals, both on Netflix's side and on our own small production team, the general handling of the project created what I felt was a negative and supportive environment.
To be clear, this was not a simple matter of us not getting our way. Mike and I are collaborative people; we did not need all of the ideas to come from us. As long as we felt those ideas were in line with the spirit and integrity of Avatar, we would have happily embraced them.
However, we ultimately came to the belief that we would not be able to meaningfully guide the direction of the series.
Though I am profoundly disappointed by how things turned out, there are wonderfully talented people who are still working on the series, some of whom Mike and I personally hired and got to know well during our time on the project. We worked very hard together towards a shared dream of how special this adaptation could be. I want to see them employed, and I hope they get the chance to do their best work on the series. Perhaps the team that remains might still be able to make something fans of the original and an entirely new audience can enjoy.
By and large, I have an incredibly charmed career and I am very grateful for it. And I am enormously lucky for the amazing global community of fans that has grown around the shows Mike and I have created and run together. I will continue to be deeply involved in the Avatar universe, telling the stories my partner and I want to tell in the way we want to tell them. I will put my time, energy, and talents towards the projects that give me the most fulfilment, and where I am afforded trust and respect.
Life is too short to do otherwise.
- Bryan Konietzko"
In September 2018, Netflix and the creators of the beloved animated series announced a “retelling” of the Nickelodeon show that promised both to act as a corrective to the reviled, whitewashed M. Night Shyamalan movie and to delve “even deeper into the characters, stories, and world-building” of the original.
Update: An individual with knowledge of the situation told Variety that the project is still moving forward at Netflix with Nickelodeon, Dan Lin, and Lin’s company Rideback still attached.
“We have complete respect and admiration for Michael and Bryan and the story that they created in the Avatar animated series,” a Netflix spokesperson said in a statement. “Although they have chosen to depart the live action project, we are confident in the creative team and their adaptation.”
Avatar: The Last Airbender follows the journey of Aang, a 12-year-old boy torn between fulfilling his fate as the long-awaited Avatar, who can master all four elements - Earth, Water, Fire, and Air - and bring balance to the world, and just wanting to be a regular kid.
Launched in February 2005, Nickelodeon’s Avatar: The Last Airbender ran for 61 episodes over three seasons (or "Books") and emerged as one of the most beloved animated properties in history, drawing 5.6 million viewers during its series finale. Created and executive produced by Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, the series is translated in 32 languages.
The property has translated into a successful ongoing graphic novel series, which includes 25 volumes and counting, continuing the story of the Avatar. A combination of the titles has spent 70 cumulative weeks on the New York Times Graphic Books Bestseller list since 2012. The DVD and Blu-rays are a successful consumer products business, with the Avatar: The Last Airbender: The Complete Series generating nearly $5MM since its 2018 release. Additional consumer products include toys and video games.
Its success led to the creation of a follow-up series, The Legend of Korra, that returned to the world of Avatar years after Aang’s death to follow Korra, his successor as Avatar. That series ran between 2012-2014. In 2010, the series got its first feature-length film, the live-action The Last Airbender.
The news comes as Avatar: The Last Airbender, currently celebrating its 15th anniversary, is seeing significant success on Netflix. Re-added to the streamer's programming library in mid-May, it quickly became the most watched title on service, and has since smashed the record for being on Netflix’s daily Top 10 lists the most amount of times in a row. The series is also available in HD on the platform. The follow-up series, The Legend of Korra will also be joining the Netflix library in the U.S. on Friday, August 14!
As of now, fans are left to react with heartbreak over the shocking announcement. At this time, there is no word on where Avatar: The Last Airbender is with development, and netizens hope to get an update on the project before long.
Avatar fans, how are you feeling about Netflix’s live-action project now that DiMartino and Konietzko are gone? Tell me in the comments below.

BURBANK, Calif.–Aug. 12, 2020–Herbivore social media sensation The Tiny Chef is bringing his culinary adventures to Nickelodeon in a brand-new series. The Tiny Chef Show (working title) will follow the talented chef as he whips up tasty ‘weshipees’ and the world’s tiniest plant-based dishes from his tree-stump home. Produced in association with Imagine Kids+Family, Tiny Chef Productions, and Nickelodeon Animation Studio, the series will premiere on Nick’s preschool platforms in the U.S., as well as Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. channels internationally. The Tiny Chef Show will be executive produced by Imagine Entertainment Executive Chairmen Brian Grazer and Ron Howard, Imagine Kids+Family President Stephanie Sperber, as well as Kristen Bell, Morgan Sackett, and Tiny Chef creators Rachel Larsen, Adam Reid and cinematographer Ozlem Akturk for Tiny Chef Productions.
“The Tiny Chef stole my heart when he taught me how to make a tiny apron, and I know he will take everyone’s hearts like he took mine,” said Ramsey Naito, Executive Vice President, Nickelodeon Animation Production and Development. “Brian Robbins and I want to thank everyone at Imagine Kids+Family as we welcome The Chef to Nickelodeon.”
“We have worked with some of the biggest stars in the business, and we could not be more excited to also now work with the tiniest! The Chef and his team have created a vibrant, inclusive, and community-based world and we at Imagine are thrilled to share it with audiences, big and small,” said Grazer and Howard, jointly. “Brian Robbins and his team at Nickelodeon created the gold standard in kids’ entertainment and the perfect home for this series.”
“We knew from the first meeting that Chef and his show would be best served by partnering with the creative team at Nickelodeon,” said Sperber. “They made Chef feel like a star and Imagine Kids+Family couldn’t be more excited to partner with the Nickelodeon team to make his cooking show a reality.”
“We cannot wait to tell The Tiny Chef this amazing news. Though we’re a little worried his tiny heart may burst with joy so we’ll make sure he’s sitting down. It’s been The Tiny Chef’s dream to have his own cooking show and now Nickelodeon is making that come true. This next chapter in The Chef’s journey will be so exciting and thrilling for all of us.” - The Tiny Team
The Tiny Chef Show marks Nickelodeon’s second project with Imagine Kids+Family, following the previously announced live-action adventure series The Astronauts. Production of The Tiny Chef Show for Nickelodeon Animation Studio is overseen by Eryk Casemiro, Senior Vice President, Nickelodeon Preschool and by Elly Kramer for Imagine Kids+Family.
The Tiny Chef is represented by CAA.

About Nickelodeon
Nickelodeon, now in its 41st year, is the number-one entertainment brand for kids. It has built a diverse, global business by putting kids first in everything it does. The brand includes television programming and production in the United States and around the world, plus consumer products, digital, location based experiences, publishing and feature films. The Tiny Chef started off as an Instagram IP that now has more than 600,000 followers. It centers on the titular character as he cooks, sings and lives in his tree-stump house. Imagine’s kids division invested in the IP in July 2019—its first such investment—and the plan is to develop it into a global franchise, complete with content and consumer product.
It was the wee chef’s fun language-free approach (reminiscent of the Swedish Chef from The Muppet Show) to topics like cooking and environmental sustainability that initially drew the studio to the property, according to Stephanie Sperber, president of Imagine Kids & Family.
The number and length of episodes and a release date have not yet been set.
Nickelodeon has been cooking up a lot of food-themed content recently, including the Rachael Ray and Amirah Kassem unscripted special Cake My Day, and digital series Annie vs Hayley LeBake Off! Cooking shows have long been a staple of many kidsnets’ non-fiction slates, and the new batch of tasty fare comes amid a growing awareness that kids who watch cooking shows are more likely to make healthy food choices, according to a Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior study.
The Tiny Chef Show has developed a cult following through its short-form stop-motion animation featuring the Tiny Chef, voiced by Matt Hutchinson, as he cooks, sings, and lives his life in his tree-stump house. One of his biggest fans is EP Kristen Bell who began a formal partnership with The Tiny Chef after discovering the property and had been promoting the character and its online adventures on social media.

Sumner M. Redstone, Chairman Emeritus of ViacomCBS, Dies at 97
ViacomCBS has announced that Sumner M. Redstone, Chairman Emeritus of ViacomCBS, and Chairman and CEO of National Amusements, the controlling shareholder of ViacomCBS, passed away at his residence in Los Angeles, California. He was 97.
Below is ViacomCBS' obituary paying tribute to the life and work of Sumner M. Redstone.
By Nicole Bitette
Sumner Redstone, Chairman Emeritus of ViacomCBS, and Chairman and CEO of National Amusements, the controlling shareholder of ViacomCBS, died at his residence in Los Angeles, Calif. He was 97.
The Boston native, Army veteran, and Harvard Law School graduate joined his father’s drive-in movie theater company, National Amusements, in 1957, where he began his lifelong career in the entertainment industry, serving as CEO since 1967. Redstone helped build the drive-in theater company into one of the world’s largest movie theater chains. Building off his start in the theater business, he became a prominent force in entertainment, contributing to TV, film, radio, distribution, and advertising—ultimately becoming a self-made billionaire. He famously coined the phrase “Content is King.”
He turned his commitment to the future of content into investments in Twentieth Century Fox and Columbia Pictures, which he sold in the early 1980s.
In 1987, National Amusements, Inc. acquired Viacom. At the time, Redstone said he viewed the company as being at the center of “a vast technological and global revolution that would change the habits of people all over the world.”
“Sumner Redstone was a brilliant visionary, operator and dealmaker, who single-handedly transformed a family-owned drive-in theater company into a global media portfolio. He was a force of nature and fierce competitor, who leaves behind a profound legacy in both business and philanthropy,” said ViacomCBS CEO and President Bob Bakish. “ViacomCBS will remember Sumner for his unparalleled passion to win, his endless intellectual curiosity, and his complete dedication to the company. We extend our deepest sympathies to the Redstone family today.”
Engineering the ViacomCBS Portfolio
Redstone served Viacom as Chairman from 1987 to 2016, and as CEO from 1996 to 2005. Under his leadership, Viacom acquired brands that make the ViacomCBS portfolio strong today—including MTV in 1985, Paramount Pictures in 1994, and BET in 2001.
Redstone also initiated the $39.8 billion merger with CBS in 2000, which Reuters described as a “marriage of media titans.” The companies later split in 2006, with Redstone serving as Executive Chairman of the Board for CBS until 2016. In December of 2019, Viacom and CBS merged once again.
Over the course of his career, Redstone served as a member of multiple entertainment organizations, including the Advisory Council for the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Foundation and on the Board of Trustees for The Paley Center for Media. He also served as the first Chairman of the Board of the National Association of Theatre Owners of America.
Commitment to Philanthropy
Beyond Redstone’s commitment to the entertainment business, he was a passionate philanthropist. He founded the Sumner M. Redstone Charitable Foundation in 1986 and, at the time of his death, had donated more than $260 million both through his foundation and personally.
“Life should not be a passive exercise… If we disregard its opportunities, then we have denied not only ourselves but all those who could have been touched by our efforts,” Redstone said during a commencement address at Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in 2002.
In 2007, he announced $105 million in charitable grants to fund research and care in cancer and burn recovery at Mass General, FasterCures/The Center for Accelerating Medical Solutions in Washington, D.C., and the Cedars-Sinai Prostate Cancer Center in Los Angeles, Calif.
Some of his other significant contributions include $20 million to Motion Picture & Television Fund in 2013, $2.5 million to Boston University College of Communication in 2014, and fellowships in his name for Public Service at his alma mater, Harvard School of Law. That same year, the Sumner M. Redstone Global Center for Prevention and Wellness was also established at George Washington University. Countless other donations have been made by Redstone to a number of organizations, including the Global Poverty Project, Literary Inc., Autism Speaks, and more.
NickALive! sends its deepest condolences to Mr. Redstone's surviving family members and to everyone at ViacomCBS.
