Nickelodeon is bringing “Twin Magic” to The Substitute with WWE Superstars The Bella Twins tag-teaming to go undercover at Las Palmas Middle School in Covina, Calif. Nikki and Brie Bella guest star in the premiere of The Substitute on Friday, Jan. 31, at 8:00 p.m. (ET/PT) on Nickelodeon, with new episodes featuring a star-studded lineup of celebrities airing Fridays at 8:00 p.m. (ET/PT).
Using full costumes and prosthetics to hide her identity, Nikki Bella is transformed into three completely unrecognizable characters, and for the first time the Substitute gets some extra help as her sister Brie Bella directs from the control room.
Together they prank students as Nikki plays an eccentric gym teacher who brings her dog-training techniques to the field, an awkward speech teacher preoccupied by her upcoming maid of honor duties and a career counselor obsessed with clowns.
The Substitute features celebrities who are transformed by a team of Hollywood special effects artists to go undercover as a substitute, surprising unsuspecting kids in schools, camps and other locations. After a day full of ridiculous mayhem, the substitute reveals themselves and the featured school receives a donation for $25,000.

And to celebrate, TheWrap has unveiled a first look at Nikki Bella’s undercover looks, and news of the guest stars to come!

Funko has announced the very exciting news that they are expanding their popular Nickelodeon range with brand-new Pop! figures inspired by the iconic animated series The Legend of Korra! The new lineup of figures includes a spectacular new Korra Pop figure, plus Mako, Amon, and Asami Sato.
The company revealed the news as part of their London Toy Fair 2020 line-up.
The new line of Pop! figures includes Korra in her Avatar state, which is a limited-edition glow-in-the-dark variant available only at Hot Topic. The figure depicts one of Korra's alternative outfits from the show. The Legend of Korra line also features a Pop! figure of Korra displaying her fire- and water-bending powers, as well as three other major characters: Mako, Asami and Season 1's villain Amon, all in standard poses.
You can pre-order all of these new The Legend of Korra Funko Pops here on Entertainment Earth, with shipping slated for June 2020. The mythology of the beloved animated franchise from Avatar: The Last Airbender creators, Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, continues with The Legend of Korra. The series centers around a new Avatar named Korra, a 17-year-old headstrong and rebellious girl who continually challenges and bucks tradition on her quest to become a fully realized Avatar in a world where benders are under attack.

Filming has wrapped on Rising, a new live-action adventure series from Nutz Productions that will debut in 2020 exclusively on TeenNick Israel, the Nickelodeon-branded tweens-and-teens channel that launched in 2017, via the Hot Cable Network and Yes Satellite network. A premiere date has yet to be announced.

Set in 1946, two years before the state of Israel was founded, Rising follows brother and sister Emile and Elinore, illegal immigrants in Israel. They join a group of teens training in a secret base and recruitment center to act as Strike Forces against the British mandate. The fictional characters and events are juxtaposed against actual historical occurrences and real-life legends.
Rising, aimed at tweens and teens, was created by Eden Gurion and Yehonatan Bar Ilan.
The news follows Nutz Productions, the subsidiary production arm of Ananey Communications Group, announcing plans to begin filming work on Sky (2 seasons, 20x22’), a new adventure drama from the creator and producers of Nickelodeon Israel's The Greenhouse and Netflix's Greenhouse Academy – Giora Chamizer and Nutz Productions – together with writer Noa Pnini, in February 2020 on various locations sites all over Israel.
Sky tells the story of a smart and assertive alien girl with the same name, whose spaceship accidentally crashes in a small town on earth. While waiting to be rescued, she hides by transforming herself into the body of the most popular girl in high school. With only three goofy friends to help her out, Sky must survive two weeks on earth without being discovered. Alongside the suspenseful dramatic plot, the general air of the show is whimsical and funny.
Similar to Rising, Sky is also set to premiere on Teen Nick Israel in 2020.
Nutz Productions, the subsidiary production arm of Ananey Communications Group, is currently in the midst of producing Spyders (formally titled The Covurts), the first original co-production between Nickelodeon International and the Israeli production studio — together with Israeli cable network HOT.
Spyders focuses on Anna and Noah Fisher, highly highly skilled undercover agents who work for a ECCO – Environmental Counter Crime Organization, and are tasked with fighting criminals who endanger nature or the environment. Little do they know that their three kids – Daniel (16), Nikki (15) and Tommy (12) – have discovered their secret occupation and have formed a task force of their own, named Spyders.
Nickelodeon has ordered 40 x 22-minute episodes, which will be distributed to Nickelodeon's international audiences spanning 170+ countries and territories via the brand’s more than 100 channels and branded blocks in 2020.

Canada - YTV will premiere Nickelodeon and the LEGO Group's brand-new high-stakes CG-animated comedy series LEGO® City Adventures on Friday 14th February 2020 at 5:30 p.m. (ET/PT). Following the construction of the series premiere, newly constructed episodes will continue to premiere regularly on YTV.

When it comes to going green, consumer products have led the movement in the kids industry. Toy companies got the ball rolling early on being more environmentally friendly, with major players like Hasbro announcing initiatives as early as 2010.
Musical instruments could be a category Nickelodeon explores for its La Bala CP program.
And while those first programs focused on reducing the amount of paper and plastic used in packaging, more recently licensees and manufacturers are turning their attention to baking in an eco-friendly ethos into the very DNA of their brands.
Nickelodeon is taking this tack with its consumer products strategy for Isabella de La Torre (known as La Bala), the YouTube star Nickelodeon Latin America signed an exclusive global representation agreement in 2019. Under this agreement, Nickelodeon will work with La Bala to develop her musical career and propel her career internationally on multiple platforms, including consumer products, music, short-and-long form original productions, social networks, live events and editorial, among others. Nickelodeon Latin America is working on a comprehensive strategy for the talented influencer, including multiple merchandising agreements with promotional partners covering various categories such as fashion, accessories and much more.
Cristian Cabero, Nickelodeon Latin America's Senior Vice President (SVP) of Consumer Products and Location Based Experiences (LBE), revealed to Kidscreen his team took inspiration from the ways in which de La Torre works green products into her everyday life when they began developing the CP range.
For example, she travels with a reusable cup to avoid single-use plastics, so Nickelodeon is aiming to create products that are similarly sustainable, as well as reducing the amount of packaging used for the entire line. These efforts aren’t designed to stand out—being eco-friendly should now be assumed and something La Torre’s fans expect from their purchases.
In fact, a 2018 study from research firm GreenMatch found that 72% of Gen Z consumers would spend more money on a service if it was sustainably produced, and those same respondents also reported a strong preference for switching to brands with sustainable initiatives. The study also found kids are willing to boycott companies that do not align with their values. And these stats came before millions of people (Gen Zers among them) protested for climate change solutions in September last year. What’s more, a 2019 report from Research and Markets found kids have a direct spending power of as much as US$143 billion, and an indirect spending power of US$600 billion. That’s a lot of reasons to go green.
Initial categories for La Bala’s consumer products program will include apparel, accessories, publishing and back-to-school, with the first items scheduled to hit shelves in Mexico this summer. By the end of the year, Nickelodeon plans to expand throughout LatAm and launch additional categories like bedding and electronic accessories.
De La Torre first learned about environmental issues and sustainability through social media, she says. “It’s unbelievable how many things are happening because of climate change, and people think it’s normal. We have to work now, and I’ve been using my voice to spread awareness.”
But de La Torre’s entire life doesn’t revolve around environmental efforts. She’s like most teenagers, which means her time is split between a number of interests.
“There are a lot of things she’s passionate about,” says Tatiana Rodriguez, Nickelodeon’s Senior Vice President (SVP) of Programming and Creative Strategy. “She also loves music and art, so we’re working to incorporate all of those things into the products [with equal importance.]”
The biggest obstacle, Cabera says, is waiting for the technology behind manufacturing processes to catch up to the company’s (and de La Torre’s) aspirations. “There are limitations,” he says. “We must deliver a good-quality product at a price that is accessible to the consumer.”
NEW ORLEANS – To date there are more than 300 Over-the-Top (OTT) services fighting for viewership, with services such as ViacomCBS' CBS All Access, Amazon and Netflix as well as the much-hyped offerings from HBO Max and BBC-Discovery still to launch. Suffice it to say that the American streaming marketplace is becoming crowded.
Perhaps taken for granted in this maelstrom of industry activity is linear cable television, where pay-TV providers in the U.S. still account for 84.8 million subscribers, as of December 2019. So how is cable keeping its edge and fighting back to ensure its content is as compelling as anything on Amazon or Netflix?
Those were the questions that a group of top-level industry executives were looking to answer during a Wednesday (Jan. 29) panel discussion, titled “Linear: Alive and Well” and moderated by Bruce David Klein, president and executive producer at Atlas Media Corp, at the 2020 Realscreen Summit in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Over the past year, Nickelodeon, a division of ViacomCBS Domestic Media Networks has been working tirelessly to ratchet up its non-scripted entertainment offering in the hopes of retaining its young viewers. While unscripted programming is relatively new at the network, Nickelodeon’s Rob Bagshaw, Executive Vice President (EVP) of unscripted content, noted that the network has seen successes in the past with game show Double Dare, which was recently revived, and is now doubling down on its production in non-scripted entertainment with hidden camera prank show The Substitute, shiny floor format America’s Most Musical Family, competition series Top Elf and an Americanized version of UK game show The Crystal Maze already on offer.

“Children are still coming to us as the bedrock of where they start to watch television… our key demo is 6-11, and we’re trying to build that by broadening out into co-viewing,” said Bagshaw.
“My challenge is to grow a genre within a network and across our other platforms so that our audience is aware they can get that content that they’re watching elsewhere, and the best way of doing that is to [offer] variety,” he continued.

This Memorial Day weekend, SpongeBob SquarePants, his best friend Patrick Star and the rest of the gang from Bikini Bottom hit the big screen in the first-ever all CGI SpongeBob motion picture event. After SpongeBob’s beloved pet snail Gary (aka “Gare-Bear”) is snail-napped, he and Patrick embark on an epic adventure to The Lost City of Atlantic City to bring Gary home. As they navigate the delights and dangers on this perilous and hilarious rescue mission, SpongeBob and his pals prove there’s nothing stronger than the power of friendship.
Based on the TV series created by Stephen Hillenburg, The SpongeBob Movie is produced by Ryan Harris, with Stephen Hillenburg executive producing. The film comes from Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Movies in association with MRC and is a United Plankton Pictures production.
The TV spot will air on TV during the pre-game of the 2020 Super Bowl (Super Bowl LIV), taking place Sunday, February 2, 2020 and will feature the San Francisco 49ers vs. the Kansas City Chiefs. The halftime show will feature Jennifer Lopez and Shakira.
Paramount gives an early look at its The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run tv spot that will debut ahead of the Super Bowl. Since even pre-game commercials are expensive, the new clip gives SpongeBob just 26 seconds to describe everything that happens in his new film.
“There’s fast cars, flashbacks, Snoop Dogg, robots, a wise sage, churros,” everyone’s favorite cartooned sponge rattles off. “The only thing missing is Gary.”
“Well, that was money well spent,” Mr. Krabs replies.
In the animated movie, out in theaters May 22, SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star venture out of Bikini Bottom and head to the Lost City of Atlantic City on a rescue mission to save SpongeBob’s trustee snail Gary.
And yes, the trailer does have everything, including a live-action Snoop Dogg playing himself performing to a crowd of cartoon fish. And that “wise sage” is none other than Keanu Reeves’ face glowing over a mystical ball of tumbleweed. They both appear on SpongeBob and Patrick’s journey as they search the ocean looking for his missing pet snail Gary.
The show’s original voice cast — Tom Kenny, Clancy Brown, Rodger Bumpass, Bill Fagerbakke, Carolyn Lawrence, Douglas Lawrence — will reprise their roles alongside Awkwafina, Keanu Reeves and Reggie Watts. Tim Hill, a former writer on the Nickelodeon series, directed the movie and wrote the screenplay with Michael Kvamme, Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger. Hans Zimmer is providing the musical score for the film.
Sponge on the Run is the third theatrical “SpongeBob” film, following 2004’s The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie and 2015’s The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water.
Each previous big screen outing for SpongeBob has been a massive success for both Nickelodeon and Paramount Studios. The SpongeBob Movie (2004) grossed $140 million against a $30 mill budget. The sequel didn’t hit theaters until 2015, but the wait was worth it; Sponge Out of Water grossed a whopping $325 mill. Hence why the wait time for the third film was much, much shorter. Nickelodeon celebrated the 20th anniversary of its flagship franchise with the "Best Year Ever", a year-long birthday for SpongeBob. Having Keanu Reeves stop by for a quick cameo in your movie isn't a bad way to cap the celebration off.
