Wow! Stuff is pushing the envelope of innovation in the licensed toy space once more, this time with the unveiling of the self-driving Peppa Pig car for pre-schoolers.
Developed in partnership with Hasbro – the now owner of the Entertainment One (eOne) Peppa Pig IP – the Peppa Pig car features obstacle avoidance technology, meaning it can navigate itself around any room.
Toymaker Wow! Stuff has made a name for itself in developing innovative toy lines for some of the world’s biggest franchises, underpinned by the success of its Harry Potter Invisibility Cloak, a launch that earned the company a Toy of the Year Innovation Award last year.
The latest offering is scheduled to hit shelves across Europe this October, and will roll out to the U.S. in spring 2021. The Peppa Pig Clever Car is able to detect anything in front of it (such as a cushion, chair leg or other household fixtures), and then veers itself around the obstacles, all while beeping its horn and avoiding a crash, educating the child that crashes are something to be avoided.
Before setting off the child driver is challenged with matching the colour of the characters to the colour of the car seats and ensuring Mummy or Daddy Pig is in the driving seat. Successfully matching the colours is met with the narrator congratulating the child’s skill before the Clever Car sets off.
By pressing the steering wheel, the Clever Car is put into auto-drive – with Obstacle Avoidance technology – while the characters chat and lights activate, allowing the child can chase excitedly behind.
Kenny McAndrew, Wow! Stuff co-founder and head of licensing, commented: “We’re thrilled to be working on the toddler-tech category and bringing real innovation to pre-schoolers in one of the most iconic Peppa Pig play activities. The response we’ve had at retail is fabulous. We are supporting this with a 360 degree marketing campaign including a really super TV commercial and extensive social media advertising.”
Peppa Pig Clever Car includes the obstacle detection car with colour sorting feature plus four figures: Mummy Pig (Mommy Pig), Daddy Pig, Peppa and George.
