Something strange seems to be happening to one of Nickelodeon's most popular animated series: Sunny Day is being removed from the schedules of Nick Jr. channels globally!
It was first reported that Sunny Day would be taking a break from airing on the Nick Jr. channel in the U.S., however, this decision seems to have spread to Nick Jr. channels worldwide, including Nick Jr. channels in the UK & Ireland, Australia, Germany, Latin America, Brazil, Italy and Central & Eastern Europe. New episodes of Sunny Day were set to air on Nick Jr. in Germany and CEE, however, these have now been postponed. Sunny Day is, however, still being aired on Nick Jr. in New Zealand.
The whereabouts of Sunny Day and when the show is likely to return to the line-up has yet to be revealed by Nickelodeon. Although the show is currently off the schedules in many countries, each localised Nick Jr. website still has a Sunny Day show page, featuring information about the series as well as short-form clips and games. In the U.S., fans can still unlock full-length episodes of Sunny Day on nickjr.com and the Nick Jr. app.
Update (22/3/2020) - Nickelodeon International has now the Sunny Day pages from most Nick Jr. websites.
Sunny Day centres on Sunny, a 10-year-old master hairstylist and entrepreneur who uses creative problem-solving to tackle any dilemma that arises in her seaside town of Friendly Falls. The characters in the series celebrate individuality and self-expression, while the show’s social-emotional curriculum highlights leadership, innovative thinking and teamwork.
Sunny is a confident and creative natural leader who runs her own hair salon in the town of Friendly Falls. When adventure calls, Sunny sets out to save the day with her can-do attitude, salon-on-the-go Glam Van, best friends and colleagues, Rox and Blair, and her dog Doodle. Each episode of Sunny Day features a unique digital extension where kids and their parents can watch fun, live-action hairstyle tutorials that are tied directly to the hairstyles featured in each episode and narrated by Sunny.
Initially greenlit for 40 episodes, Sunny Day made its world debut on Nickelodeon USA in August 2017 and has since rolled out on Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. channels globally. Nickelodeon renewed the show for a 20-episode second season, which is currently airing. The series is produced by Silvergate Media for Nickelodeon.
Although unconfirmed, it's thought that Sunny Day has wrapped production, with staff going on to work on Nickelodeon and Silvergate's upcoming preschool series, Made by Maddie.
The voice cast of the US-English dub of Sunny Day includes: Lilla Crawford as Sunny, Rob Morrison as Doodle, Élan Luz Rivera as Rox, and Taylor Louderman as Blair.
he voice cast of the British-English dub of Sunny Day includes: Lily Portman as Sunny, Chris Garner as Doodle, Abigail Wisdom as Rox, and Eleanor Snowdon as Blair.
