Nickelodeon Names Ashley Kaplan as SVP, Digital Studios; Luke Wahl Joins as VP

Nickelodeon has named former Fullscreen Media executive Ashley Kaplan as Senior Vice President (SVP), Digital Studios, and Luke Wahl as Vice President (VP), Digital Studios, reporting to Kaplan. The announcement was made today by Nickelodeon President Brian Robbins and Kelly Day, President of Viacom Digital Studios (VDS), to whom Kaplan will dually report. Both Kaplan and Wahl will be based out of Nickelodeon’s Burbank, California headquarters.


In her new role, Kaplan will lead Nick’s YouTube strategic vision and oversee the creative and editorial voice for digital content creation, as well as development and production of original short-form content exclusively for Nickelodeon’s YouTube and social media platforms.

Wahl will work on the development and production of original short-form content exclusively for Nickelodeon’s YouTube and social channels, with an emphasis on sports-themed content. He will also work closely with the linear development and current production teams to create content that can live seamlessly across the brand’s linear and social platforms.

Kaplan previously served as the SVP, Creative and Production at Fullscreen Media, where she oversaw ongoing production and development of premium content. Earlier, she was VP of Digital Content and Strategy for the Magical Elves production company, and also previously did a stint at Viacom’s Logo channel, launching its digital content department and producing the first online original series.

Prior to joining Nickelodeon, Wahl served as Head of Video at Gear Patrol, a print and digital men’s lifestyle publication and content studio. Before Gear Patrol, he helped launch Sports Illustrated’s OTT service, and did stints as an Executive Producer for Katie Couric’s programming at Yahoo! News, and at AwesomenessTV, the leading digital-first destination for original programming that Viacom acquired last year. He also served as showrunner and co-executive producer for Embassy Row’s TakePart Live on Pivot TV.

The news follows Nickelodeon announcing that Angelique Yen and Eddie Gamarra are joining the network to oversee its burgeoning studio model business, producing content for long-form movie content and SVOD services.

Since VDS’ launch in 2018, Viacom brands’ social video views have grown by 83%, and watch time has increased by 119%, with a global average of four billion views and more than six billion minutes watched each month, according to Viacom. Its more recent slate, unveiled during NewFront in April this year, focuses heavily on influencers like JoJo Siwa, Hayley LeBanc and Anthony Padilla.

Nickelodeon to Release 'SpongeBob SquarePants: The Best 200 Episodes Ever!' DVD on Monday, July 15

Nickelodeon is celebrating 20 years of SpongeBob SquarePants with a special DVD collection, SpongeBob SquarePants: The Best 200 Episodes Ever!! Made up of two box-sets, the 30-disc collection will available exclusively on Amazon Prime Day, Monday, July 15! The set carries an SRP of $76.99 USD, however, Amazon will be selling the set for $68.99 USD. The set seems to be only currently available for fans in the U.S. (region 1). Following Amazon Prime Day, the spongeriffic DVD collection will be available nationwide at other outlets Tuesday, August 27 from Nickelodeon and Paramount Home Entertainment.

Double Dare's Marc Summers Visits WABI

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - Fans Nickelodeon's iconic game show Double Dare are celebrating today.


Double Dare Live is coming to the Cross Center in Bangor this December.

Brian Sullivan and Morgan Sturdivant had the chance to get a special preview thanks to Dan Cashman and The Nite Show.

Dan Cashman enlisted Brian and Morgan to help out with an upcoming skit for The Nite Show promoting Double Dare Live; a touring version of the classic 80s and 90s Nickelodeon show coming to the Cross Center on Sunday, December 8, 2019.

WABI kept secret that the original host of Double Dare, Marc Summers, was making an appearance.

The live show will pit parents, many of whom watched the show when they were younger, against their kids in messy challenges and trivia.

PAW Patrol to Take Over Nick Jr. Too UK in September 2019

The PAW Patrol is on a roll, and this September, will be leaping onto Nick Jr. Too for Nick Jr. UK & Ireland's first-ever PAW Patrol pop-up channel!

Musical Prince Edward Island Twins to Compete on Nickelodeon's 'America's Most Musical Family'

Ava and Lily Rashed will have an interesting answer if they're asked what they did for summer vacation when they start high school next week.


The 15-year-old Prince Edward Island (P.E.I.) twins had an adventure on their summer break. They were invited to Hollywood to compete on Nickelodeon's upcoming brand new reality show, America's Most Musical Family!

The Canadian twins travelled to Los Angeles, California along with their family, which includes their musical dad, David Rashed of Haywire.

"Our dad did get to play with us, he got to play bass for one of the songs," Ava told CBC News, but he didn't get to perform with them on stage for the show.

The twins had a performance a couple of days before the TV studio reached out.

"We decided last minute to post a cover on our Instagram," Ava said.

In one of the comments, a casting director for Nickelodeon posted. "She was really interested in us," Ava said.

Thought it was a prank

Lily said she couldn't believe they were asked to compete on the show — initially she thought it was a prank.

"It's just such a big thing that we were wondering 'how can they do this on Instagram,'" Lily said.

The video the twins posted to Instagram got the attention of the show, but Ava said after that, the twins sent videos and pictures and Nickelodeon representatives interviewed them both.

"Our mom got a phone call later that night and she was asleep so she didn't pick it up," Ava said.

When she told the girls about the message left on her voicemail they started "freaking out," Lily said.

"We practised for a solid month. Just the songs that we chose to perform on the show," Ava revealed.

They flew out of Charlottetown at 4:30 a.m. to catch a flight from Toronto to Hollywood — Ava with a guitar on her back and Lily with a fiddle.

Both said stepping off the plane in L.A. was an amazing feeling.

Tough competition

The Rashed family competed against 30 other families for the title of America's most musical family.

"It was such an amazing experience and all the other families were so nice. We got to make a lot of new friendships," Ava said.

"It was nerve-racking, but we both felt really confident about our performance." — Lily Rashed

When they arrived at the studio in Hollywood the twins said they didn't know what to expect.

"One of the families already got cut and we didn't know that it was like this pre-audition," Lily said.

"When we heard that we were still there and we were going to make it on the show, we were like 'oh that's awesome.'"



Lily said she and Ava had to get on a big stage and perform in front of judges and a large audience.

"It was nerve-racking, but we both felt really confident about our performance so we just went on and we were like 'OK.' I was like to Ava 'we have to go on and do our thing and we will see what happens,'" Lily said.

The audience helped judges decide who moved forward, Ava said.

Among the stars

The judges for the show are Ciara, Debbie Gibson and David Dobrik, she said.

Ava said they met and worked with lots of people in the entertainment industry. "We got to work with a producer, Rob Lewis, who works with Christina Aguilera and the Backstreet Boys," Ava revealed.

The pair even worked with a former choreographer for Michael Jackson, Ava said.

The twins can't talk about how they did on the show because it doesn't air on Nickelodeon until early November, but both said it's a hard thing not to talk about.

"It's so hard because everyone has their own questions and we want to tell everyone, but we can't," Lily said.

The 12 x 30-minute episode series will also air on YTV in Canada this Fall.

1+1 Media Expands Partnership with Viacom in Ukraine

1+1 Media Group, one of the largest media conglomerates in Ukraine, has announced that it has agreed with a new long-term contract with Viacom International Media Networks' (VIMN) for the exclusive distribution of Viacom channels Nickelodeon, Nick Jr., MTV, MTV Hits, MTV Dance, MTV Live HD, MTV Rocks, Paramount Comedy, Spike, and VH-1 in Ukraine!


1+1 Media is also planning to further develop its partnership with VIMN, which will include the launch two new TV channels, as well as an HD version of the Spike TV channel, in October 2019.

1+1 media to expand cooperation with FILM.UA Group, VIMN

The group 1+1 media will add two more channels of FILM.UA Group to its distribution portfolio, member of the board of the 1+1 media group, Head of the Shared Services division Yaroslav Pakholchuk has said at a press conference in Kyiv.

According to him, in particular, it is planned to launch and distribute the new culinary and entertainment channel Kus-Kus (September 2019), as well as the FILMUADrama television channel (since 2020). A new long-term contract for the distribution of Bolt and 36.6 TV channels has also been approved.

In addition, Pakholchuk said that the 1+1 media intends to develop cooperation with the global media company Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN). In particular, in October 2019, there are plans to launch two new TV channels, as well as an HD version of Spike TV channel.

In addition, the 1+1 media has agreed with VIMN a new long-term contract for the exclusive distribution of the following television channels in Ukraine: MTV, MTV Hits, MTV Dance, MTV Live HD, MTV Rocks, Paramount Comedy, Nick Jr., Spike, VH-1, and Nickelodeon.

Pakholchuk also said that the group 1+1 media in January 2020 will put into commercial operation the HD version of its three channels: 1+1, 2+2 and TET.

He said that the HD versions of the group's television channels will be available only for pay television – there will be no HD quality in Zeonbud. At the same time, the group does not plan to monetize the HD version separately from its main product.

According to Pakholchuk, the media group's investments in the transition to HD broadcasting amounted to "hundreds of thousands of dollars."

"Only for satellite rebroadcasting of the HD channel we will have to pay about $400,000 per year, which is 3-4 times more than when broadcasting the SD version," he said.

Медіагрупа "1+1 медіа" додасть до дистрибуційного портфоліо ще два телеканали FILM.UA Group.

Про це повідомив член правління групи "1+1 медіа", глава підрозділу Shared Services Ярослав Пахольчук під час прес-конференції в Києві, передає кореспондент "Інтерфакс-Україна".

За його словами, зокрема, планується запуск і дистрибуція нового кулінарно-розважального каналу "Кус-кус" (вересень 2019 року), а також телеканалу FILMUADrama (з 2020 року). Погоджено також новий довгостроковий контракт на дистрибуцію каналів Bolt і 36,6 TV.

Крім того, Пахольчук додав, що "1+1 медіа" має намір розвивати співпрацю і зі світовою медіакомпанією Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN). Зокрема, в жовтні 2019 року планується запуск двох нових телеканалів, а також запуск HD-версії телеканалу Spike.

Пахольчук також зазначив, що медіагрупа "1+1 медіа" в січні 2020 року запустить у комерційну експлуатацію HD-версії трьох своїх каналів: "1+1", "2+2" та "ТЕТ".

Він наголосив, що HD-версії телеканалів групи будуть доступні тільки для платного телебачення - в "Зеонбуді" HD-якості не буде. Водночас група не планує монетизувати HD-версії окремо від свого основного продукту.

За словами Пахольчука, інвестиції медіагрупи в перехід на HD-мовлення становлять "сотні тисяч доларів".

"Тільки за супутникову ретрансляцію HD каналу в рік доведеться платити близько $400 тис., що втричі-вчетверо більше, ніж при трансляції SD-версії", - зазначив член правління групи "1+1 медіа".

Як повідомлялося, медіагрупа 1+1 media розпочала реалізацію проекту з забезпечення провайдерів, які мають чинні угоди на ретрансляцію телеканалів групи, спеціальними пристроями декодування супутникового сигналу - САМ-модулями Verimatrix.

Nickelodeon International Acquires 'Chop Chop Ninja' Pay-TV and SVOD Rights for Russia and CIS

GoldBee has inked a new agreement with Nickelodeon International that will see Chop Chop Ninja, an adventure-comedy series from Montreal’s Sardine Productions and Gamerizon Studio, as well its accompanying short-form series Chop Chop Ninja Challenge for its pay-TV and Subscription Video on Demand (SVOD) platforms in Russia and CIS! Both the full series and animated shorts will premiere after they have been dubbed into the local languages.


Chop Chop Ninja follows a rookie named Iro and his three best friends at the Ninja Academy, where they practice the arts of fighting villains and mastering stillness, among other ninja disciplines. When called upon to defend the Academy, the City of Rizon and worlds beyond, they set off on journeys in which they discover the true values of being a great Chop Chop Ninja.

Chop Chop Ninja (40 x 11-minute episodes plus 40 x 1.5-minute shorts) began airing in Southeast Asia on Nickelodeon networks and platforms back in November 2018. The series is currently rolling out on Nickelodeon channels in a number of other territories, including Italy, the Middle East and Africa. The series is aimed towards kids aged between 6-to-12 years-old.

In additional news, WeKids has also acquired the exclusive TV and nonlinear rights to Chop Chop Ninja for mainland China from distributor GoldBee. The comedy-adventure series’ arrival on WeKids in China later this year will follow the successful run of the Chop Chop Ninja Challenge fillers in the country on iQiyi, Tencent, Youku and Tudou.


Produced by Montreal’s Sardine Productions (ToonMarty) and Gamerizon Studio, Chop Chop Ninja was originally commissioned by Corus Entertainment for its French and English Teletoon networks, premiering on both in Canada last October. The property is supported by the Bell Fund, the Canadian Media Fund, the Shaw Rocket Fund, the CPTC and the SODEC.

Distributed by Spain’s GoldBee, the 2D-animated non-verbal slapstick shorts and have already been sold into more than 120 territories. The property was originally a mobile game with 10 different app iterations, and then the full series was jointly produced with interactive online game Chop Chop Ninja Academy.

Nickelodeon International previously acquired the pay-TV and non-exclusive Video on Demand (VOD) rights to the mobile-based, non-verbal animated comedy series for channels across the UK and continental Europe, Russia, Central Europe, Turkey, Israel, South East Asia and Africa in March 2016.

Christophe Goldberger, GoldBee’s managing director, said: “We are thrilled to contribute to Chop Chop Ninja’s growth, from a global mobile game success to a strong television and digital series.”

Nickelodeon Greece to Premiere 'Abby Hatcher' on Monday 9th September 2019

Nickelodeon’s brand-new animated preschool series, Abby Hatcher (created and produced by Spin Master Entertainment), tells the story of a little girl with a big heart who helps her friends, the amazing and quirky Fuzzly creatures, fix their mishaps, learn from their mistakes and negotiate their emotions. Launching on Monday 9th September 2019 at 17:30 on Nickelodeon Greece's (Ελλάδα), Abby Hatcher (26 episodes) features a social-emotional curriculum highlighting empathy, compassion and problem-solving skills. Following launch, new episodes of Abby Hatcher will continue to air regularly on Nickelodeon Ελλάδα.

In Abby Hatcher, Abby is an eternally optimistic, kind-hearted seven-year-old girl who loves to lend a helping hand to others and accepts everyone--no matter how different they are. In Abby’s world, humans coexist with Fuzzlies, incredible creatures that each have their own unique abilities that make them special, and Abby’s parents’ hotel is home to many. Together with her best Fuzzly friend Bozzly, Abby goes on wild adventures to fix Fuzzly mishaps and help them in any way she can. Whenever a problem arises Abby and Bozzly always say, “Fuzzly trouble can’t delay, to the rescue, save the day!”



In the series premiere of Abby Hatcher, “When Abby Met Bozzly/Hair Flair Everywhere,” Abby meets the best friend of her dreams, a fuzzly named Bozzly, for the first time. Then, when the hotel’s salon owner Mrs. Melvin closes the salon for the day, Abby tries to help Harriet, a hair-obsessed Fuzzly, find a new hobby, when all she really wants is to style. In additional new episodes, Mo and Bo are mistaken for a snow monster, and, after taking a tumble, Otis suffers a fear of heights and becomes scared to use his elevator.


Abby Hatcher made its world debut on Nickelodeon in the U.S. on Tuesday, January 1, 2019, and will be rolling out on Nickelodeon’s international channels and branded blocks throughout 2019. The series also airs on TVO and Knowledge in Canada. Nickelodeon renewed Abby Hatcher for a 26-episode season two earlier this year.

Abby Hatcher is the ninth series from Spin Master Entertainment and follows on the success of PAW Patrol. The new series is overseen by executive producers Ronnen Harary and Laura Clunie.

SpongeBob x King Ice Season 2 forms part of Nickelodeon's global "Best Year Ever", a year-long global celebration of one of the most iconic TV series and characters ever created. The “Best Year Ever” launched with the premiere of “SpongeBob’s Big Birthday Blowout,” an original mixed live-action and animated special, and leads up to the Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies theatrical, The SpongeBob Movie: It's a Wonderful Sponge, coming summer 2020.

With SpongeBob's 20th anniversary celebrations under way, King Ice celebrated the landmark anniversary with true fans and supporters who forever have the squishy bright yellow square sea sponge enriched in their hearts! On July 10th, King Ice had an under water sea activation take place on Melrose Ave in Hollywood/Fairfax area at the BAIT pop-up shop. Hundreds flowed through the venue enjoying the experience of custom made SpongeBob cupcakes, unique selfie stations, and viewed unreleased items from the King Ice x SpongeBob collection.

Celebrity guests including Mike Zombie, Numera Una, Somaya Reece, Una Nedjeldov, Josh Stone, Yung Muusik, Emcee Nice, DJ Kiss, Jay Reeves, Raquel Harper of TMZ and more went on a treasure hunt and enjoyed pineapple-infused food and drinks as they celebrated this iconic 90s cartoon and the gorgeous King Ice pieces commemorating it.
