The 16-year-old superstar will be voicing the character Josie, and Just Jared Jr. has unveiled our exclusive first look!
Josie is a communications mogul and head journalist for the school blog, The Daily Juice, a bit similar to JoJo‘s series on her YouTube channel, “JoJo’s Juice”!
In these first look images, Josie can be seen showing off her blog in one, and in the other, Josie meets with Yuna (Haley Tju), an edgy fashion designer, and Wren, a non-binary teacher in the Mogul Academy Fashion Branch, who is voiced by Project Runway‘s Tim Gunn.
In case you missed, check out your first look at Alex Wassabi‘s character, which we premiered last week, here!: http://nickalive.blogspot.com/2019/08/first-look-at-jane-lynch-tim-gunns.html

Middle School Moguls is inspired by the concept created by Gina and Jenae Heitkamp, who also serve as co-executive producers. Are You Afraid of the Dark? | Teaser Trailer #5 | Nickelodeon
Nickelodeon today unveiled their latest teaser trailer for their upcoming Are You Afraid of the Dark? revival! Click play below, and watch at your own risk!
Are You Afraid of the Dark? is a Canadian Twilight Zone-esqie anthology series created by D.J. MacHale and Ned Kandel. It revolves around a group of teenagers who called themselves the Midnight Society that meet weekly at a secret location in the woods, where one member tells a scary story to the rest of the group, some of which are based on public domain fairy tales, short stories or urban legends. Subjects range from abandoned houses and vampires to scary clowns, witches and aliens.
The series debuted in 1990 on the Canadian children's channel YTV and was picked up by Nickelodeon USA in 1991, though it didn’t debut until SNICK’s launch on Saturday, Aug. 15, 1992. The show ran until April 1996, and a revival series with new writers, directors, writers and cast members was produced by Nickelodeon from 1999 to 2000. In all, the series ran for 91 episodes over seven seasons. Tia and Tamera Mowry (Sister, Sister), Will Friedle (Boy Meets World), Neve Campbell, Hayden Christensen, Jay Baruchel, Tatyana Ali, Melissa Joan Hart (Clarissa Explains It All, Sabrina the Teenage Witch), Jewel Staite (Space Cases), Emily VanCamp, and two-time Academy Award nominee Ryan Gosling are just a few of the household names who have lent their acting skills to the anthology.
Each episode is introduced with the storyteller saying “Submitted for the approval of the Midnight Society,” who then would announce the title of that segment. MacHale said the line was a tribute to the series The Twilight Zone, in which creator Rod Serling would introduce the episode by saying, “submitted for your approval.”
In Nickelodeon's Are You Afraid of the Dark? revival miniseries, through three hour-long episodes, the new Midnight Society will tell a terrifying tale about the Carnival of Doom, only to have the events of the story come to life. The revival will premiere this October on Nick.
The new members of the Midnight Society are: Gavin, played by Sam Ashe Arnold (Best.Worst.Weekend.Ever.); Akiko, played by Miya Cech (Rim of the World, Always Be My Maybe); Louise, played by Tamara Smart (Artemis Fowl, The Worst Witch); Graham, played by Jeremy Taylor (It, Goosebumps 2:Haunted Halloween); and Rachel, played by Lyliana Wray (Top Gun: Maverick, Black-ish). The Carnival of Doom’s ringmaster, Mr. Tophat, is played by Rafael Casal (Blindspotting).
The Are You Afraid of the Dark? limited series is produced by ACE Entertainment (To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, The Perfect Date) with ACE founder Matt Kaplan and Spencer Berman serving as executive producers. The series is written by BenDavid Grabinski (Skiptrace) and directed by Dean Israelite (Power Rangers movie, Project Almanac), both of whom will also executive produce.
Paramount Players is also currently working on a feature film adaptation of Are You Afraid of the Dark?.

Culture & Comedy: LatinX Artists and Writers Tap Into Their Heritage for 'The Casagrandes'
Nickelodeon is set to premiere The Casagrandes, the network's upcoming animated The Loud House spin-off which will follow Ronnie Anne and her chaotic multi-generational family in Great Lakes City, in October 2019, and to celebrate, The Animation Guild's Fall 2019 issue of Keyframe magazine has published an awesome article in which the production crew explain how the series will celebrate Latin American culture whilst keeping true to the ethos and designs of The Loud House, which you can read below!:
Nickelodeon's The Casagrandes, the upcoming spin-off of the channel's The Loud House, manages to create a plethora of new characters with distinctive personalities and physicalities while still staying beholden to the ethos and designs of the original hit series. The new show, which premieres in October, will also be, as co-exec producer Mike Rubiner describes, one that depicts a "multi-generational family with grandparents, aunts, and uncles, [and] cousins all living together [that is also] really emphasizing the Mexican American aspect of it."
It also a wonderful opportunity for Latinx animators, writers and others in the industry.
For art director Miguel Gonzalez, who is Mexican American, the idea of following The Loud House secondary characters Ronnie Anne and Bobby Santiago as they join their rambunctious, enormous extended family in Chicago (or, as it's known in this universe, Great Lakes City) is an opportunity to celebrate this culture. He says one of his first objectives when he was hired for The Casagrandes - a show he describes as a dream project and one he'd do anything to be a part of - was to adapt The Loud House color schemes of browns and earth tones to reflect the more vibrant palette of what he associates with his heritage and family.
My inspiration was looking into Mexican pottery and drapery and anything I could incorporate," says Gonzalez. He and his staff would do research online, in books or ask friends and colleagues to bring in photos of the festive greens and blue interiors of their grandparents' and parents' houses so that he could cross-reference them with his own memories. He also knew his designs came with the caveat that he couldn't make the show look completely different because it would still incorporate previously known characters, like The Loud House lead Lincoln, and it had to be recogizable to viewers who were already fans of the first show. But, he says, "we try to be honest with the culture too: What do they wear? How do they wear it?"
The Casagrandes employs respected Latino cartoonist Lalo Alcaraz - who was previously known for his work on projects like Pixar's Coco and Fox's Bordertown - as a cultural advistor who will go to bat for authenticity and will speak up when there's a worry of venturing too close to stereotypes of Latinx culture. But these facts are on the staff's minds about all characters, says writer Rosemary Contreras, who is also Mexican American and new to the franchise, whether showing the Italian American character Vito or neighbours Stanley and Rebecca Chang, who are a mixed-race family (there's an episode where the white wife attempts to cook Chinese food).
Art director Gonzalez also loves that The Casagrandes can be a teaching tool. An episode about Día de los Muertos will explain that the Day of the Dead is not tantamount to Mexico's Halloween and also gave Gonzalez the opportunity to incorporate important cultural details like the displaying of ancestors' portraits and the skulls and orange marigolds associated with the celebration. Thought was also given to what food would be on the shelves of the family's mercardo (market), which is on the ground floor of their apartment complex and serves as a gathering place for the neighborhood.
As for redefining what cramped quarters mean when we're talking about two apartments in a city dwelling versus a small house in suburbia? Rubiner drew from his experiences living in Brooklyn, where it's common to see four-unit apartments over a family-run business.
"We wanted the sense that this was a tight-knit family, and they do live kind of packed-in together," he says. "But we also don't want a claustrophobic feeling of everywhere you go, you're tripping over somebody."
He adds than "an important part of the show is there's this whole city for Ronnie Anne to explore," both in regards to what the neighborhood itself looks like with its shops and restaurants and the melting pot of people who live and work there.
The set-up also allows for a bit of creative levity. Contreras wrote an episode where Ronnie Anne is pet-sitting a snake that gets loose in the apartment complex. The audience gets to track the animal's whereabouts throughout the building, giving them glimpses of how everyone lives and teaching those who don't live in apartments "what it's like to grow up and know all their neighbors."
"We are trying to create stories that relate to all children," Contreras stresses.
Even those who have never misplaced their friends' pet snake.
-- Whitney Friedlander.
