Also falling in that category are new British family game show The Crystal Maze, and All That, Nick’s new sketch-comedy series revival which premieres this Saturday, June 15.
Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? follows the original premise of kids helping adult contestants put their knowledge to the test with questions taken directly from an elementary school curriculum. But the new format puts the rotating cast of a dozen brainy grade-schoolers in the center of the action. Grown-up contestants must revisit the classroom to answer six questions on a variety of subjects from the first through fourth grade before moving on to the final round, where they must race against the clock to answer five questions taken from the fifth grade. Each time the contestants answer questions correctly, their bank increases with a possible winning of $100,000.

John Cena, the wrestler-turned-actor, explains that the Nickelodeon reboot of "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader" prioritizes the fifth grader competitors, rather than the adult contestants, marking a new direction for the beloved game show.
The quiz-based competition originally aired as a special in 2007, and then returned again in 2015, both times with Jeff Foxworthy as host.

Awkwafina, Reggie Watts and Cyndi Lauper Board 'The SpongeBob Movie: It's a Wonderful Sponge'; Movie to be 'Love Letter to Stephen Hillenburg'
Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Movies' upcoming The SpongeBob Movie: It's a Wonderful Sponge has added actor Awkwafina (Untitled Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle Sequel) and comedian and musician Reggie Watts to its voice cast, with Cyndi Lauper (and her co-writer Rob Hyman) working on original songs for the film, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed! Kelly Marie Tran will also feature in a currently undisclosed role.
In The SpongeBob Movie: It's a Wonderful Sponge, the third theatrical movie inspired by Nickelodeon's beloved animated series, SpongeBob and Patrick go on a rescue mission to save Gary, who’s been kidnapped by Poseidon and taken to the Lost City of Atlantic City. The movie will reveal the first time our beloved characters (as kids) met at Camp…a magical moment that brings meaning to the power of true friendship. The movie will also serve as an origin story for SpongeBob SquarePants.
"For the first time ever, we're going to get to the origin of how little SpongeBob met the rest of the Bikini Bottom gang at summer camp," Paramount Animation president Mireille Soria said at the VIEW Conference, comparing the film in some ways to It's a Wonderful Life. "The film's opening will take place at Camp Coral when all of our favorite characters meet for the first time."
Described as a “love letter to SpongeBob’s beloved creator Stephen Hillenburg (who died last November), the fans, and the residents of Bikini Bottom,” the project is being directed by Tim Hill and produced by Ryan Harris, with a screenplay by Jonathan Aibel, Glenn Berger, and Michael Kvamme and choreography by Mia Michaels. The film stars Tom Kenny (SpongeBob), Clancy Brown (Mr. Krabs), Bill Fagerbakke (Patrick), Roger Bumpass (Squidward), Jill Talley (Karen), Mr. Lawrence (Plankton), Carolyn Lawrence (Sandy) and Mary Jo Catlett (Mrs. Puff), and will also feature an original song by Ali Dee.

SpongeBob continues to be one of the more popular animated characters, and even made an appearance during the most recent Super Bowl halftime show.
The last few movies in the franchise have also done quite well for Paramount. The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie in 2004 was created for $30 million and brought in $140 million worldwide, while 2015's The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water was made for $74 million and brought in over $325 million worldwide.
Next year is shaping up to be a huge year for SpongeBob, which is celebrating it's 20th anniversary. Nickelodeon is celebrating the landmark anniversary with "Best Year Ever", a year-long global celebration commemorating 20 years of SpongeBob SquarePants, one of the most iconic TV series and characters ever created.
The “Best Year Ever” includes with the premiere of “SpongeBob’s Big Birthday Blowout,” an original mixed live-action and animated special, and leads up to the Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies theatrical, The SpongeBob Movie: It's a Wonderful Sponge, coming summer 2020.
The character is also receiving a spinoff series set to premiere on Nickelodeon called Kamp Koral. That 13-episode CG-animated show will focus on a 10-year-old SpongeBob as he spends his summer at the titular summer camp.
“SpongeBob has an incredible universe to expand upon and the greenlight for Kamp Koral is a testament to the strength and longevity of these characters known and loved by generations of fans around the world,” said Ramsey Naito, Nickelodeon’s EVP Animation Production and Development.
After over a decade on the small screen and two other big screen adventures, it looks like SpongeBob is more popular than ever. The character has become a fixture on the Internet's meme culture as a lot of the kids who grew up on the series are now picking some of its best moments for humor.
In additional news, Paramount Animation president Mireille Soria is bringing girl power to the unit — literally. The studio, which boasts a mostly female senior staff, is in early development on a Spice Girls movie among a slate eyeing two releases a year, starting in 2020.
All five members of the iconic '90s Brit pop group — Melanie Brown (Scary), Emma Bunton (Baby), Melanie Chisholm (Sporty), Geri Halliwell (Ginger) and Victoria Beckham (Posh) are on board, with Simon Fuller producing and Karen McCullah and Kiwi Smith writing the screenplay. The animated feature will include Spice Girls classics as well as new songs. The Spice Girls "had an idea that we've been developing," Soria tells The Hollywood Reporter. "They are very involved."
Soria also reveals that Paramount Animation has inked a first-look deal with the joint venture between Imagine Entertainment and Sydney-based animation studio Animal Logic (Happy Feet), which already has two movies in development, one of which Imagine's Ron Howard plans to direct.
In 2022, the previously announced Chinese American fantasy adaptation The Tiger's Apprentice, due Feb. 11, will be joined in the summer by Jersey Crabs, a Grease-like musical set on the Jersey Shore where sea crab tourists clash with land crab townies. Lorene Scafaria is writing, with David Dobkin producing and Megan Wolpert Dobkin exec producing. The Tiger’s Apprentice is based on the best-selling book series by Lawrence Yep, with David Magee (Life of Pi) and Harry Cripps on board to write the screenplay; it follows a teenage Chinese American boy who learns that he is the guardian of the Chinese zodiac. The team includes director Carlos Baena (a Pixar alum), producer Jane Startz and executive producers Raman Hui (Monster Hunt) and Kane Lee.
The studio is also in early development on a Mighty Mouse project planned as a hybrid live-action/animation movie based on the Paramount IP. Jon & Erich Hoeber are on board as writers, and Karen Rosenfelt and Bob Cort as producers.
Soria credits Jim Gianopulos — who came over from Fox to serve as Paramount’s chairman and CEO in March 2017 — for the vision to build an animation studio at Paramount, whose animation history ranges from Betty Boop to Rango.
Since she joined Paramount Animation in mid-2017, she's assembled a senior team made up primarily of women with a long history in animation, including exec vp Sandra Rabins; senior vp Katherine MacDonald; vp production and development Emily Nordwind; and creative exec Maya Kambe. Nate Hopper (previously senior vp production at Fox) joined Paramount Animation as senior vp in March.
"We are all about a diverse slate of movies, but the common denominator being quality, story, heart," says Soria. Perhaps not counted among that group: Skydance's Luck, for which she had been providing creative notes (the two studios have a first-look marketing and distribution pact). After Skydance hired ousted Disney/Pixar chief John Lasseter in January, Soria told her team that Paramount Animation would no longer work creatively with that division.
Also in Paramount Animation's pipline is the graphic novel adaptation Rumble, formerly titled Monster on a Hill, a Hamish Grieve-helmed partnership with ReelFX and Walden Media set to be released in July 2020.

In The SpongeBob Movie: It's a Wonderful Sponge, the third theatrical movie inspired by Nickelodeon's beloved animated series, SpongeBob and Patrick go on a rescue mission to save Gary, who’s been kidnapped by Poseidon and taken to the Lost City of Atlantic City. The movie will reveal the first time our beloved characters (as kids) met at Camp…a magical moment that brings meaning to the power of true friendship. The movie will also serve as an origin story for SpongeBob SquarePants.
"For the first time ever, we're going to get to the origin of how little SpongeBob met the rest of the Bikini Bottom gang at summer camp," Paramount Animation president Mireille Soria said at the VIEW Conference, comparing the film in some ways to It's a Wonderful Life. "The film's opening will take place at Camp Coral when all of our favorite characters meet for the first time."
Described as a “love letter to SpongeBob’s beloved creator Stephen Hillenburg (who died last November), the fans, and the residents of Bikini Bottom,” the project is being directed by Tim Hill and produced by Ryan Harris, with a screenplay by Jonathan Aibel, Glenn Berger, and Michael Kvamme and choreography by Mia Michaels. The film stars Tom Kenny (SpongeBob), Clancy Brown (Mr. Krabs), Bill Fagerbakke (Patrick), Roger Bumpass (Squidward), Jill Talley (Karen), Mr. Lawrence (Plankton), Carolyn Lawrence (Sandy) and Mary Jo Catlett (Mrs. Puff), and will also feature an original song by Ali Dee.
The SpongeBob Movie: It's a Wonderful Sponge is set to be released in May 2020!
Cyndi Lauper is not new to the SpongeBob SquarePants universe, having previously produced an original song ("Hero is My Middle Name") for Nickelodeon's Tony-award winning Broadway musical The SpongeBob Musical, which is set to embark on a tour of North America this fall.

Nickelodeon UK Partners with Live Company Group for Nickelodeon-Branded Bricklive Tours
Live Company Group, the team behind the popular Bricklive event, has detailed a new licensing partnership with Nickelodeon UK Limited to produce themed experience tours associated with the Nickelodeon brand, including the Nick Jr. brand, throughout the UK, Ireland, the Channel Islands and Isle of Man!
Bricklive touring exhibits consist of a series of themed tours created from a popular choice of toy building brick. Exhibits have, to date, been themed around shows such as Animal Paradise, Brickosaurs, Outer Space, and Mythical Beasts.
The new five year agreement with Nickelodeon will see Bricklive produce a PAW Patrol exhibit. It will launch this summer and will consist of 15 models, including Chase, Ryder, Marshall and the gang all standing between 1m and 1.2m high and built from between 25,000 – 31,000 bricks each.
A 2m tall Control Tower using over 65,000 bricks, and a selfie zone Fire Engine using a whopping 160,000 bricks, will also feature as centrepieces.
Following the launch of the PAW Patrol pop-up, a set of 15 Nick Jr. models will arrive in Autumn, featuring a host of Nick Jr.’s most popular properties, including Top Wing and Shimmer & Shine – both over a metre tall and using 90,000 bricks each.
The first two Nickelodeon Bricklive promotional activations will be created using around 1,000,000 bricks and take in the region of 6,000 hours to build by a team of highly skilled Bright Bricks builders. Each exhibit will also have interactive features and engaging trails to create a memorable and fun experience for all visitors and families.
Bricklive events have enjoyed huge success with the UK’s favourite visitor attractions over the last six months. Highlights from 2019 so far include the Big Cats tour, which has enjoyed a long stay in Chester Zoo; Whipsnade Zoo is currently home to the 80 Safari animal models; and Marwell Zoo launched Brickosaurs, including an 8m Tyrannosaurus Rex to much visitor joy in April.

Hush! Watch Lori Beth Denberg back on All That as Loud Librarian

Earlier this month, Nickelodeon revealed that original All That cast members Kel Mitchell, Josh Server, and Lori Beth Denberg are guest-starring in the series premiere of Nickelodeon’s new version. Since then, the Jonas Brothers were announced as musical guests and part of a Good Burger sketch featuring Mitchell. Well, he’s not the only one returning to his old characters, as EW has unveiled the first look at Denberg reviving her Loud Librarian character in the fantastic clip below!
Speaking to EW on the set of All That, Denberg expressed her surprise at being asked to do some of her classic sketches, assuming she was back solely to pass the torch. “It does get a lot of aggression out, but it’s really hard,” she said of Loud Librarian. “The Loud Librarian is all about being really loud and energetic and working tons of props, big heavy props and I’m crashing into things. I forgot how physically taxing it was, and that’s without even the yelling on top of it. I think I said after the first time we did a rehearsal, ‘I forgot how sweaty this was.'”

Executive produced by original cast member Kenan Thompson, All That will air weekly on Saturdays at 8:30 p.m. (ET/PT) on Nickelodeon.
As the countdown to the premiere begins, the show opens with Mitchell, Denberg and Server imparting advice and words of wisdom to the new cast of All That sharpens their comedic skills. Coming this season, classic roles are reprised in some of the series’ most memorable sketches including: Mitchell as fast-food slacker “Ed” in “Good Burger”, Denberg dropping some hilarious new advice in “Vital Information” and appearing as “Ms. Hushbaum,” the hypocritical “Loud Librarian”. The new cast and additional guest stars will be announced at a later date.
The Jonas Brothers will close the show with a performance of their smash hit “Sucker,” which debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and the US Hot Digital Songs chart.
Shot in front of a live studio audience, this season All That will introduce an all-new cast of kids to a new generation of fans, along with original comedic sketches, beloved ones, new characters and impersonations of today’s popular celebrities. Each new episode will also feature a musical performance from today’s top artists, and guest stars from the worlds of TV, film, comedy and more.
All That was Nickelodeon’s longest running live-action series with 171 episodes across 10 seasons from 1994 to 2005. The franchise paved the way for a number of successful spinoffs including Kenan & Kel, The Amanda Show and The Nick Cannon Show, the feature-length film Good Burger, as well as audio recordings, books, festival tours, and numerous reunions celebrating the show’s impact on pop culture.

Nickelodeon’s brand-new version of its legendary sketch comedy series, All That, returns on Saturday, June 15, at 8:30 p.m. (ET/PT), with an all new cast and performance by Grammy® nominated multiplatinum powerhouse Jonas Brothers. The premiere also features appearances from legacy cast members Kel Mitchell, Lori Beth Denberg and Josh Server, who helped make the original series a 90s icon for an entire generation of kids. Executive produced by original cast member Kenan Thompson, All That will air weekly on Saturdays at 8:30 p.m. (ET/PT) on Nickelodeon.
As the countdown to the premiere begins, the show opens with Mitchell, Denberg and Server imparting advice and words of wisdom to the new cast of All That sharpens their comedic skills. Coming this season, classic roles are reprised in some of the series’ most memorable sketches including: Mitchell as fast-food slacker “Ed” in “Good Burger”, Denberg dropping some hilarious new advice in “Vital Information” and appearing as “Ms. Hushbaum,” the hypocritical “Loud Librarian”. The new cast and additional guest stars will be announced at a later date.
The Jonas Brothers will close the show with a performance of their smash hit “Sucker,” which debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and the US Hot Digital Songs chart.
Shot in front of a live studio audience, this season All That will introduce an all-new cast of kids to a new generation of fans, along with original comedic sketches, beloved ones, new characters and impersonations of today’s popular celebrities. Each new episode will also feature a musical performance from today’s top artists, and guest stars from the worlds of TV, film, comedy and more.
All That was Nickelodeon’s longest running live-action series with 171 episodes across 10 seasons from 1994 to 2005. The franchise paved the way for a number of successful spinoffs including Kenan & Kel, The Amanda Show and The Nick Cannon Show, the feature-length film Good Burger, as well as audio recordings, books, festival tours, and numerous reunions celebrating the show’s impact on pop culture.
All That helped launch the careers of comedy stars including Kenan Thompson, Amanda Bynes and Nick Cannon, and has featured musical guests and guest stars including Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Usher, Ray Romano and Brittany Snow. All That was created by Brian Robbins and Mike Tollin.
All That is executive produced by Kenan Thompson (Saturday Night Live), Kel Mitchell (Game Shakers) and Kevin Kay (All That, SpongeBob SquarePants, Lip Sync Battle, Lip Sync Battle Shorties, Yellowstone). Jermaine Fowler (Superior Donuts, Sorry to Bother You) serves as a consulting producer. Production of All That for Nickelodeon is overseen by Shauna Phelan, Senior Vice President, Live-Action Scripted Content.
