The Topps Company and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) are back together again!
As part of a newly-inked deal between Topps and Viacom Nickelodeon Consumer Products (VNCP), TMNT returns to the company that first featured the famed sewer-dwelling brothers on trading cards released in 1989.
The first product under the new partnership will be a TMNT limited-edition set featuring comic book artwork, including brand-new art from famous illustrators of the franchise. Fans can expect TOPPS THE ART OF TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES trading cards to release in late summer.
Additionally, the new set will also include premium options, such as sketch cards from a number of top tier artists. There’s also a chance to find autographed cards from artists such as Michael Dooney, Jim Lawson, Steve Lavigne, and more.
This year marks the 35th anniversary of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, who first appeared in comics created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, published by Mirage Studios in 1984. The original Topps partnership included cards based on the original animated series and the early ’90s series of live-action films.
Topps first featured TMNT on cards in 1989, and the collection continued for several years featuring a range of lines from animation to the live-action movie trading cards. For more than 30 years, TMNT have been adored by fans, and Topps is thrilled to add this addition to their collections.

About Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Considered one of the most popular kids' television programs of the 1980s, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a classic, global property created in 1984 by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. It first debuted as a successful comic book series and then became a hit animated TV show, a live-action television series and later spawned four blockbuster theatrical releases. The property has also translated into a significant consumer products business - with toys apparel, home goods, video games, DVDs and more--that has generated billions of dollars at retail. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a top selling action figure and the franchise is a previous recipient of the Toy Industry Association's top honor for Property of the Year at the TOTY Awards.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles follows four mutant turtles—Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo—trained in the art of ninjutsu by their mutant rat sensei, Master Splinter, who teaches the turtles to battle evil from the New York City sewers.
Nickelodeon acquired the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in 2009 and launched a CG-animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series which re-energized these iconic characters of this wildly popular franchise in 2012. Nickelodeon followed up the CG-animated series, which ran for four seasons, with Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which premiered in 2018. The action-comedy series follows the band of brothers as they discover new powers and encounter a mystical world they never knew existed beneath the streets of New York City. Currently in its first season, Rise of the TMNT airs globally across Nickelodeon's channels and branded blocks in 170+ countries and territories. The series has been greenlit for a second season. Rise of the TMNT is co-executive produced by Andy Suriano (character designer, Samurai Jack) and Ant Ward (supervising producer, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) at Nickelodeon in Burbank, California.
