'Drake & Josh' Revival Officially in the Works

Hug me, brotha!

A Drake & Josh revival starring Drake Bell and Josh Peck is officially in the works, PEOPLE has confirmed.

Bell, 32, teased the revival while walking the red carpet at the iHeartRadio Music Awards in L.A. on Thursday, revealing that the duo is currently in talks with several networks about a new show.

“We’re working on something,” Bell told PEOPLE. “I’m excited. I think we have a great idea.”

Drake & Josh originally aired on Nickelodeon from 2004-07. The sitcom starred Bell and Peck, also 32, as stepbrothers navigating their new sibling relationship while trying to survive the highs and lows of high school.

“[The show] is going to be way more creative, way cooler than just you know the college years or something like that,” Bell said of the reboot. “We knew that if we were ever going to come back, it’s got to be something cool. I’m excited to see what the fans think.”

While Bell kept tight-lipped about what fans can expect from the new project, a source tells PEOPLE it will “be more adult and really funny.”

Bell said he couldn’t be more excited to work alongside Peck again.

“We’ve known each other for so long, and it really is once in a lifetime in this industry that you get to work with somebody and it clicks like that,” he said. “He’s just got an amazing comedic wit and incredible timing and he’s really smart and we really get along. So I think that it just kind of all goes together.”

The news follows Bell and Peck spotted having a meeting at Viacom's Los Angeles offices. Viacom owns Nickelodeon, meaning that it technically has control of the original Drake & Josh brand. The photo shows the former co-stars talking with two other men, and Peck is seen holding what looks like a laptop. What else would you bring to an important business meeting?

Update: Whatever the project is, Bell said he's looking forward to the fan reaction. "Everywhere we go we get, ‘When's the reboot? When's the reboot? When are you guys coming back?'" he told E! News. But don't call it a reboot or a revival following an older Drake Parker and Josh Nichols.

"Neither of us want to do a reboot," Bell said. "It had to be something cool, it has to be something creative, so, no, honestly I never thought that we would be coming back…I think we've come up with something that's a little bit more creative and a little more exciting."

Bell and Peck first worked together on The Amanda Show starring Amanda Bynes. He said his bond and chemistry with Peck was instant.

"I don't know what it is, but it works," he said.

Peck also coyly hinted at the reunion in a tweet on Friday.

Nickelodeon is in the midst of reviving some of the network's most popular shows. Rugrats for example, is being rebooted for not only a Nickelodeon TV show, but a CGI/live-action movie as well. Nickelodeon also announced that Rocko's Modern Life would be returning to the network with a TV movie, as well as Invader Zim, which will likely be getting its TV movie in 2019. Nickelodeon also revived Legends of the Hidden Temple and Hey Arnold! for TV movies, which aired in 2016 and 2017, respectively, and has also revived Double Dare. Nickelodeon is also in the planning stages to revive Clarissa Explains It All and Are You Afraid of the Dark? as a movie and miniseries, and will be reviving All That with a all-new cast as well as old favorites in Summer 2019.

Drake and Josh have reunited several times over the last couple of years, including for a video in which they sing Drake's latest hit, Fuego Lento and learn a bit of Spanish.

It's currently unknown whether Miranda Cosgrove (Megan), Nancy Sullivan (Audrey) and Jonathan Goldstein (Walter) will also be involved in the reboot.

Bell previously discussed a potential reunion during an interview with PopCulture.com, sharing that he would "absolutely" be up for a reboot.

"I'm down and I'd love to. It's just kind of like scheduling and all that," he said. "A lot of stuff that has to come together for something like that to actually happen, but it's definitely not off the table. Knowing Josh and the way that I've talked to him about it, and the way that I've heard him talk, he would be into it and I would be into it too."

Bell added that while the interest is there, the story would have to be just right to warrant a Drake & Josh reunion.

"It's gotta be something really cool," he explained. "It can't just be like, 'The College Years,' or 'Where are Drake Parker and Josh Nichols now?' It's gotta be something special that can live on and be able to go on, not just like an hour special or something."

Meanwhile, Drake has admitted that he has yet to meet Josh's 2-month old son, Max.

“I just have not had time to do that unfortunately,” the Nickelodeon alum, 32, told Us Weekly while attending the 2019 iHeart Radio Music Awards at the Microsoft Theater in L.A. on Thursday, March 14.

“Our schedules are crazy. I mean, whenever we’re together, he doesn’t have the baby. And I’m never in L.A. I’m always on the road!” he explained. “You know, I’m here for a couple days and then I’m back on the road … But it’s only been about a month. So I’m still alright.”

The YouTube personality welcomed his baby boy with wife Paige O’Brien on December 31.

“Max Milo Peck,” the Grandfathered actor, 32, captioned an Instagram picture of the newborn at the time.

Despite having yet to meet the little one, Bell told Us in September 2017 that the dynamic duo were closer than they had been in years. “It’s totally great. It’s all love. We’re brothers, man,” he said at the time. “We’ve been working together for 18 years, maybe even longer now. So we’ve had our ups, we’ve had our downs, it’s like we’re real brothers. It’s kind of that sibling rivalry and sibling love and it’s the whole thing.”

Drama brewed between the two after Peck failed to invite his longtime friend to his June 2017 wedding. “True colors have come out today. Message is loud and clear. Ties are officially cut. I’ll miss you brother,” Bell tweeted at the time.

The Cover Versions actor later expressed regret at how he handled the situation, telling Entertainment Tonight in July, “I should have just texted that to him, you know. I was just being cranky.”

By August 2017, they were poking fun at the incident, making a mock video together in which Bell joked, “Wedding looked like it sucked, anyway.”

The Amanda Show alum told Us on Thursday that he and the Mean Creek star are now in talks to do a reboot of the show that has forever linked them. “It’s been talked about, yeah,” he confessed of a Drake & Josh revival. “There’s something brewing. There’s been ideas thrown around, some really good ideas that excite, I think, me and Josh more than stuff that we’ve heard before. And so, you know, maybe!”

In an interview with E! News, Bell continued, "Josh and I have been talking and he's come up with some cool ideas. And, yeah I can't really go into exactly what we're doing but it's going to be really cool and exciting. I'm really excited to do it."
