DJ Khaled is ready to take on a new role.
The music producer is the host of the 2019 Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards on Saturday, March 23. To celebrate, Khaled recently chatted with Entertainment Tonight about why he decided to take on the gig.
"The reason why I wanted to be the host of the Kids' Choice Awards is because I'm a father," he expressed, adding that he's been to the awards show with his 2-year-old son, Asahd, and loved it. "Now, I'm going to be able to host and my son can see me host and be like, 'My daddy's hosting [the] Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards.' And not just that, I'm about the young world, the future, the kids. Anything that makes the kids happy, that's what I'm about."
For Khaled, making his little one happy is his No. 1 priority. "I make my son happy every single day, even if I'm on the road, I facetime him 100 times," he told ET. "I just wanna make sure he's happy and he's smiling."
"So everybody wants to know if I'm going to get slimed," Khaled said, replying, "Shhh, top secret. Everything is top secret. You have to watch the show… It's gonna be the biggest Kids' Choice Awards ever. It's gonna be hard, very hard, I'm going to set the bar high, for host. Whosever hosting after this, I'm sure they're gonna do a great job, and I'm gonna take nothing away from them, but the bar's gonna be set high, because I'm coming!"

DJ Khaled inspired by son before hosting Kids’ Choice Awards
LOS ANGELES (AP) — In the run-up to the Kids’ Choice Awards, host DJ Khaled is feeling plenty of support — from his son.
The producer-DJ said his 2-year-old son, Asahd, gets excited just watching his dad in the ads promoting the show on Nickelodeon.
“When the commercials come on, my son is like ‘Daddy, daddy, daddy!’ Because, you know, he watches Nickelodeon. So do I,” he said in an interview Thursday.
“It’s like, the commercial comes on every second,” he continued. “And I’m like, man, they’ve got me looking good out here. My son, to see him smile and say ‘Daddy! Daddy!’ — it really touched me.”
Khaled will host the family-friendly, slime-filled awards show in Los Angeles on Saturday. He promises the show will have “a whole lot of superstars in the building.”
Rap trio Migos are expected to perform and DJ Mustard will hit the stage. Ariana Grande, Adam Sandler and Chris Pratt are some of stars expected to make an appearance.
Khaled called hosting the Kids’ Choice show a “big accomplishment” for his career. Viewers may find less Khaled than usual.
The producer-DJ said he’s on a weight loss journey, trimming down nearly 50 pounds. He said the birth of his son compelled him to monitor his health and become a better man.
“It made me better, it made me greater,” he said. “The way I eat, the way I talk, the way I move, the way I think, the way I make music, the more patience I have, the more understanding what real love is, what real friendship is, and what my purpose is.”

Khaled’s son, who appears relaxing in a swimming pool on the cover of dad’s 2017 album “Grateful,” is also the inspiration behind his 11th studio album “Father of Asahd,” which will be released May 17. Khaled said his new album will reflect how much becoming a dad has changed him.
“Everything is about my son,” he said. “It ain’t about me no more. It’s about my son.” He added: “That’s why I named my album ‘Father of Asahd.’”
