MINNEAPOLIS, Feb. 27, 2019 -- Nickelodeon and VStar Entertainment Group, part of Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group, today announced the U.S. debut of the live theatrical production Nick Jr. Live! "Move to the Music." The brand-new musical spectacular will feature, for the first time ever on one stage, characters from multiple hit Nickelodeon preschool animated series, including Bubble Guppies, PAW Patrol (produced by Spin Master Entertainment), Dora the Explorer, Shimmer and Shine, Blue's Clues & You! (premiering in November 2019), Blaze and the Monster Machines and Top Wing. Exclusive ticket pre-sale opportunities will be available to fan club subscribers beginning Wednesday, March 6, and tickets are available to the general public beginning Friday, March 15. Audiences can sign up for the fan club at http://nickjrlive.com where they will also have access to exclusive tour updates and ticket notifications for their city.
Nick Jr. Live! "Move to the Music" marks the first of several productions to debut as part of an exclusive live theatrical touring partnership between Nickelodeon and VStar Entertainment Group. The partnership includes collaboration on several Nickelodeon intellectual properties to deliver new theatrical touring productions over the course of the exclusive 5-year deal. The relationship between the family entertainment brands kicked off in 2016 with the co-production of PAW Patrol Live! "Race to the Rescue," the first-ever live stage show based on Nickelodeon's top-rated preschool series, PAW Patrol (produced by Spin Master Entertainment). Since that time, the two have added PAW Patrol Live! "The Great Pirate Adventure" and Bubble Guppies Live! "Ready to Rock" to the growing list of production collaborations. In the short time since the debut of the original show, an impressive 3 million PAW Patrol Live! tickets have been sold worldwide.
"Nickelodeon's partnership with VStar Entertainment has been an incredibly successful one, and has become an integral component as we continue to expand our burgeoning global location based business," said Sharon Cohen, Executive Vice President, Nickelodeon Experience. "With the latest addition to the lineup, we've mined Nickelodeon's library of preschool hit shows to create Nick Jr. Live! "Move to the Music," an engaging and vibrant musical showcase, featuring some of our most beloved characters."
"As VStar continues to evolve into a leading producer of live family entertainment, having Nickelodeon, the leading children's entertainment brand, entrust additional top-rated intellectual property to VStar speaks to the confidence and trust we've established," said Eric Grilly, CEO, VStar Entertainment Group. "We are thrilled to have Nickelodeon as our partner and look forward to the opportunity to continue entertaining audiences with even more beloved Nickelodeon characters."
Nick Jr. Live! "Move to the Music" follows Dora and her PAW co-hosts, Marshall and Rubble, as they invite their Nick Jr. friends to come together for a one-of-a-kind music-filled production. Bubble Guppies' Molly and Gil, Rod and Penny from Top Wing, Shimmer and Shine, and even Blue from the new Blue's Clues &You! are throwing a Nick Jr. celebration. The show will transport audiences to familiar Nick Jr. locations, including Bubbletucky and Zahramay Falls, and includes two acts, along with an intermission. The unforgettable musical adventure will feature live appearances, special on-screen guests and audience participation to engage the whole family.
With innovative costuming and a Broadway-style set, Nick Jr. Live! is a perfect way to introduce theater to young children. The show is split into two acts with an intermission and will include original music as well as familiar tunes from Nick Jr. shows. A limited number of V.I.P. packages are available for each performance and feature premium show seating, VIP merchandise item, an exclusive photo opportunity with Blaze from Blaze and the Monster Machines, as well as a post-show Meet & Greet party with Dora the Explorer and Rubble from PAW Patrol.

VStar CEO Eric Grilly said that the deal started to come to fruition about a year ago and that the deal was signed last fall. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Sharon Cohen, executive vice president of the Nickelodeon Experience, said the producing partnership between the two companies for specific projects has morphed into a strategic partnership “because it felt like it was time to solidify the partnership and have in place the blueprint to launch more shows.”
Her division, which aggregates all of Nickelodeon’s intellectual property, was created two years ago and has a 30-member staff. Other Nickelodeon shows include “Double Dare Live” and the SpongeBob SquarePants musical.
Creating “Move to the Music” “was a very collaborative process,” Grilly said. “We looked at how their IP was performing on social media platforms, linear platforms, consumer-product platforms, B2B platforms, and we assessed the cultural relevance and made decisions based on those and other factors.”
Cohen expects the target audience for “Move to the Music” to be preschoolers and their parents. She also expects the road going forward will be a “true collaboration between the two companies. VStar is a fabulous partner and we recognize VStar’s knowledge in creating live theatricals.”
Grilly expects the tour to have cast of 10-12, which is in line with the existing PAW Patrol shows and will need three trucks. Music will be a combination of original music and music from the various Nickelodeon series that the characters populate. The music will be tracked.
The strength of Nickelodeon’s global business is the primary reason VStar was keen on upping the partnership; Nickelodeon’s rich, deep archive of content was another; and the success of their working relationship led VStar to want to strengthen it as well.
VStar was acquired by Cirque du Soleil in 2018. Non-Nickelodeon tours include Cirque Dreams and Discover the Dinosaurs: Time Trek. Previous VStar (formerly VEE Corp.) was the home of the Sesame Street Live and Barney franchises.
“VStar being bought by Cirque makes them that much more of a compelling partner for us,” Cohen said. “They’ve added additional capabilities.”
Cohen anticipates “many more productions over the five years of the umbrella deal.”
Tour dates and the venues that “Move to the Music” will play are still being determined.

‘Nick Jr. Live!’ introduces children to the world of theater
“Nick Jr.” characters Marshall and Rubble from “PAW Patrol” and Dora the Explorer are hosts of “Nick Jr. Live!”, coming to Pittsburgh’s Benedum Center Jan. 17-19.
With a name like “Nick Jr. Live!” and a cast of characters including Dora the Explorer, PAW Patrol and Bubble Guppies, it’s obviously a show for kids — but that doesn’t mean parents won’t enjoy it. They might even reap some hidden benefits in the eyes of their offspring.
Though the show is geared toward an audience of children ages 1-6, it still has plenty to offer parents, grandparents and even older siblings, says Stephanie Hammond, the production stage manager and show support manager for VStar Productions.
With opportunities for singing, dancing and “being silly with your kids,” she says, “It’s an important thing for relationships and education.”
The national touring show, produced by Nickelodeon and Minneapolis-based VStar, will visit Pittsburgh’s Benedum Center for five performances Jan. 17-19.
More than a dozen characters from Nickelodeon’s children’s television programming are featured in “Nick Jr. Live!” playing Jan. 17-19 in Pittsburgh’s Benedum Center.
“It’s important that kids know just because you’re grown up, you’re not old and boring. Mom and dad are still really fun and really cool,” Hammond says.
Familiar faces
“Nick Jr. Live!” incorporates a host of familiar faces from “Nick Jr.” children’s television programming.
The show’s premise has the cast staging a production for the audience, with Dora and PAW Patrollers Marshall and Rubble as hosts.
After the first number, Dora tasks Rubble with writing “a really great finale,” Hammond says.
Along the way, Marshall accidentally shuts off the power to the stage and Shimmer and Shine, with encouragement from the audience, have to find the Dazzle Starlight Gem to turn the lights back on.
Other characters cause more complications as Rubble works on his finale, inviting the audience to practice it with him at every step of the way and at show’s end.
The audience also will have a chance to do the “Pup Pup Boogie” with Blue, the inquisitive canine from “Blue’s Clues.”
“All the kids know this song. They do it on the show all the time,” Hammond says. “There’s lots of audience participation in every part of this. You can get out of your seat and dance with us. Kids have no filter — there’s always a little mosh pit in front of the stage.
“Don’t come and expect it to be quiet,” she says. “It’s loud and raucous. The kids jump around and have a really good time and get crazy excited.”
Beyond the chance to work out some of that boundless childhood energy, “Nick Jr. Live!” also can serve a more serious purpose, Hammond says.
“We get lots of feedback from parents and, for a large number of children, this was their first experience with a live stage show,” she says. “It’s a wonderful way to introduce children to theater. It’s kind of like Broadway for kids.”
