Paramount Pictures’ Paramount Players (Dora the Explorer) is currently developing a live-action big screen adaptation of Nickelodeon's beloved '90s series Are You Afraid of the Dark?, in conjunction with Nickelodeon Movies. The movie is being produced by screenwriter Gary Dauberman (It, The Nun, Annabelle: Creation), who has penned an all-new story focused on the tale-telling Midnight Society huddled around a campfire, along with Matt Kaplan, and now, Bloody Disgusting is reporting that it looks like the film has finally found a director: D.J. Caruso!
Caruso is an interesting choice as his most recent directing gigs include The Disappointments Room and xXx: Return of Xander Cage, although he also helmed the teen thriller Disturbia back in 2007.
Caruso made a name for himself directing the Shia Labeouf-starring thrillers Disturbia and Eagle Eye. He last helmed Return of Xander Cage, which proved to be a surprise international hit, grossing more than $346 million worldwide and relaunching the Vin Diesel action franchise. He is slated to direct the next installment, which will shoot sometime in 2019.
Caruso is repped by CAA, Media Talent Group and Bloom Hergott.
Are You Afraid of the Dark? was a Canadian Twilight Zone-esqie anthology series created by D.J. MacHale and Ned Kandel. It revolved around a group of teenagers who called themselves the Midnight Society and would meet weekly at a secret location in the woods, where one member would tell a scary story to the rest of the group, some of which were based on public domain fairy tales, short stories or urban legends. Subjects ranged from abandoned houses and vampires to scary clowns, witches and aliens. The show was revived in 1999 for two more seasons with new writers and showrunners.
The series debuted in 1990 on the Canadian children's channel YTV and was picked up by Nickelodeon USA in 1991, though it didn’t debut until SNICK’s launch on Saturday, Aug. 15, 1992. The show ran until April 1996, and a revival series with new writers, directors, writers and cast members was produced by Nickelodeon from 1999 to 2000. In all, the series ran for 91 episodes over seven seasons. Tia and Tamera Mowry, Will Friedle, Neve Campbell, Hayden Christensen, Jay Baruchel, Tatyana Ali, Melissa Joan Hart, Jewel Staite, and two-time Academy Award nominee Ryan Gosling are just a few of the household names that lent their acting skills to the anthology.
Each episode was introduced with the storyteller saying “Submitted for the approval of the Midnight Society,” who then would announce the title of that segment. MacHale said the line was a tribute to the series The Twilight Zone, in which creator Rod Serling would introduce the episode by saying, “submitted for your approval.”
Gary Dauberman recently revealed that the film won’t be an anthology collection of short horror stories, but instead a single horror story told around the campfire by The Midnight Society. Dauberman also revealed that he isn’t adapting any of the stories from the show, telling /Film earlier this year that the film will be a completely original story told by The Midnight Society:
“It is a completely original story I came up with, but it still has the Midnight Society and it still has the campfire. It’s still a story being told."
The writer's comments seem to imply that the narrative will put more emphasis on the storytellers as opposed to merely being a collection of creepy stories. He also detailed why it's so important to deliver younger viewers creepy stories.
“That show is so important to me. I didn’t want to age it down too much because for it’s time, it had some really disturbing episodes and some really dark episodes. Not every story the Midnight Society told ended with happily ever after or a person learning their lesson and it will never happen again," Dauberman admitted. "I really embraced that side of things and I think it’s been a long time. I think fear is healthy for kids. I don’t think we have to always sand down the edges of things and that’s something I really wanted to do with Are You Afraid of the Dark? I think it is scary and I think kids will be scared watching it at times, and also they’ll laugh at times. I think it’s got a great message. I think it’s got a great heart to it but it is still scary. I think that’s great. I think it’s going to open it up to a wider audience.”
“The show is about the shared experience of telling stories — especially scary ones. We’re going to celebrate that with this movie and honor the darker, scarier tone of the show, which was really groundbreaking for Nickelodeon at the time. I hope the Midnight Society approves.”
The big question is whether there will be an all-new Midnight Society telling the story, or will the old gang back together from the original series be making a comeback? More than likely it’ll be a new crew, but maybe we’ll get some cameos from the original cast members.
The Midnight Society will convene for the first time in almost 20 years when Are You Afraid of the Dark? opens in theaters Oct. 11, 2019.
While fans will have to wait a little longer to see the new version of Are You Afraid of the Dark?, the original show and many other '90s Nickelodeon shows can be streamed on NickSplat on VRV right now.
The movie comes as Nickelodeon is in the midst of reviving a slate of the network's beloved '90s. Rugrats for example, is being rebooted for not only a Nickelodeon TV show, but a CGI/live-action movie as well. Nickelodeon also announced that Rocko's Modern Life would be returning to the network with a TV movie, as well as Invader Zim, which will likely be getting its TV movie in 2019. Nickelodeon also revived Legends of the Hidden Temple and Hey Arnold! for TV movies, which aired in 2016 and 2017, respectively, and has also revived Double Dare. Nickelodeon is also in the planning stages to revive Clarissa Explains It All.
East Rutherford, NJ – KCL Engineering created a new gold standard for roller coaster lighting with its first coaster lighting project, Monster at Adventureland, back in 2016. Over the past two years, KCL has continued to push the limits of coaster lighting with projects in California and Oregon, including Hangtime at Knott’s Berry Farm in California, and Adrenaline Peak at Oak’s Park in Oregon.
KCL Engineering is thrilled to announce its newest lighting concept will be installed at the indoor Nickelodeon Universe Theme Park at American Dream. This will be both the first indoor and east coast application of the KCL Roller Coaster Lighting System!

The American Dream project, located in East Rutherford, New Jersey (4.5 miles away from the Lincoln Tunnel) is expected to be the largest indoor theme park in the western hemisphere when complete. Included in this ambitious project is a Launched Euro-Fighter style coaster from Gerstlauer, which features a 60 mph launch and a 141-foot vertical lift that rises above the park into a section of raised roof to glimpse New York City. It will be a thrilling attraction and look amazing with a KCL light package.

Like KCL’s previous projects, the complete lighting effects system will create a unique experience that syncs to music and other external inputs, displaying a thrilling light show for those riding the coaster, walking through the theme park, and even people miles away in New York City. The yet-to-be named coaster is one of two record-breaking Gerstlauer coasters that were announced for Nickelodeon Universe at the American Dream in November 2017. It will feature the steepest drop in the world when complete. KCL Engineering and Gerstlauer are both partners of Ride Entertainment.

Even though it’s been almost a decade since we were introduced to Kendall Schmidt, James Maslow, Carlos PenaVega and Logan Henderson with the series on Nickelodeon, fans still find themselves going through their old music playlists and jamming out to OG tracks like “Any Kind of Guy,” “Elevate,” “Music Sounds Better with U,” and “Like Nobody’s Around.”
Since the show wrapped on July 25, 2013 with the band ending live shows in 2014, each member of BTR has pursued careers in the ‘biz and, as we expected, are killin’ it! While we have been (and always will be supporting) whatever endeavours the guys choose on their professional journey, we can’t help but wonder if Schmidt, Maslow, PenaVega and Henderson will ever consider getting back together one more time to perform. With groups like Backstreet Boys, 98 Degrees and *NSYNC reuniting (remember that VMA performance in 2013??), what’s to stop Big Time Rush from doing this?!? Absolutely nothing.
At the 2014 Kids’ Choice Awards in Los Angeles, Kendall talked to Celeb Secrets about his latest project, Heffron Drive, but of course being the true Rushers they were, they NEEDED to know if there were talks about a reunion.
“BTR hasn’t ever broken up, so I suppose whenever a good tour comes around we’ll be there,” he told CS exclusively.
Four years later, CS spoke to Logan Henderson at the Stars & Strikes for APCH in Los Angeles this past March, and they asked if he’d ever make music with his former band members ever again. His response? Not something fans' 17-year-old selves would be too crazy about.
“I want a great first album,” Henderson told Celeb Secrets in terms of goals for 2018. “I want to make it the way that I envisioned it, I wanna see people on the road that I haven’t seen in a long time and I want to travel.”
“I have special collaborations on this album, but I wanna wait for you guys to check it out when it comes out. It’s not going to be with [Kendall Schmidt, James Maslow] — I’ve done enough with those guys. I love them to death.”
However, Rushers' hope was then RESTORED two weeks ago, on the nine-year anniversary of the show’s pilot when Carlos PenaVega posted THIS slideshow of photos on Instagram with the following caption:
“9 years ago my life changed forever. Thank you to everyone who has supported me since then! Can’t wait for the next 9! Shall we do a 10 year reunion tour next year?! ;)”

The Idaho Steelheads’ annual December jersey auction will feature a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles-inspired look Saturday night at CenturyLink arena.
The jerseys are modeled after the character Raphael and will be worn on the team’s Nickelodeon Night. The game against Kansas City begins at 7:10 p.m. Saturday. The Steelheads (13-9-1-2) also face the Mavericks at 7:10 p.m. Friday.
The silent auction for the jerseys will take place in the breezeway connecting the arena and The Grove Hotel on Friday and Saturday nights. The auction continues until the start of the third period Saturday.
Last year, the December auction raised $15,443. Proceeds from this year’s auction will benefit the St. Luke’s Children’s Hospital.

Nickelodeon Poland (Polska) is partnering with the Institute of Automation and Applied Computer Science at Warsaw University of Technology (Instytut Automatyki i Informatyki Stosowanej Politechniki Warszawskiej) to launch TechNICK Camp, a brand-new course that will introduce kids to the world of computer programming!
Taking place between Monday 4th - Friday 8th February 2018 in Warsaw (Warszawie, przy ul. Mokotowskiej 19.), attendees will be able to attend classes especially designed to teach children the basics of computer programming, as well as to encourage kids to further their education of computers and their knowledge of algorithms, and to encourage further develop their creativity. Children will learn computer programming under the supervision of specialists and educators at TechNICK Camp. Children do not need to have any prior knowledge of computer coding to attend TechNICK Camp.
In addition to the classes, kids attending TechNICK Camp will also be treated to trips to Politechnikę Warszawską and the Copernicus Science Centre (Centrum Nauki Kopernik), and will be able to take part in the interesting workshops that will be conducted during their stay.
In between classes, children will have 30-minute breaks during which they will be able to relax (including taking part in relaxation exercises, such as yoga for children).
TechNICK Camp take places place between 10:00am - 17:00 each day, however, the common room will open at 08:30, in which TechNICK Camp will conduct extra classes for kids who arrive earlier. Children will also be allowed to stay until 17:30 each day.
TechNICK Camp is aimed towards children aged between 8-15 years old. Classes will be held in two groups each day: Group 1 for children aged 8-11, and group 2 for children aged 12-15.
Tickets to the TechNICK Camp cost 1000 PLN per day, which includes breakfast and one hot meal, as well as computers and all the necessary equipment that kids will need to take part in TechNICK Camp. Children will be looked up by qualified educators.
Children are encouraged to bring footwear to change throughout the day. For the relaxation exercises after classes, TechNICK Camp recommends comfortable, stretchy outfits - but children do not have to completely change. For outdoor trips, TechNICK Camp encourages children to bring clothes that suit the weather on the day.

Nickelodeon Brazil (Brasil) has announced the exciting news that it will be treating viewers to a super sneak-peek of its upcoming CG-animated series Tainá e os Guardiões da Amazônia when it will air two episodes from the network's brand-new show on Sunday 16th December 2018 at 19:00 on Nickelodeon Brasil and Nick Jr. Brasil!
Following the special preview, the series will fully launch on Saturday 5th January 2019 at 12:30 on Nickelodeon Brasil, followed with a launch on Nick Jr. Brasil in February 2019.
Co-produced by Nickelodeon and Sincrocine Produções, with investments from BNDES (Procult) and Artigo 39 da Ancine, the animated series (26 episodes) is an adaptation of the hit trilogy of Brazilian family films, and follows a Indian girl named Tainá, who, together with her friends, protects the Amazon rain forest and its fauna and flora.
The new co-production will reimagine the story of the three feature-length live-action movies for a new audience of children aged between 3-to-6 years old. The trilogy has won 23 national and international awards and has being shown on TVs in more than 40 countries around the world.
Tainá e os Guardiões da Amazônia follows Tainá, her pet monkey Catu, king vulture Pepe, and a little hedgehog named Suri, who enjoy going on fun adventures as they explore and learn more about the world's largest rainforest and its extraordinary diversity. The series aims to encourage children to respect diversity and cultural differences, and their abilities and limitations, bringing a message of respect, friendship and care for nature in each episode.
In the heart of the Amazon Forest, Tainá and her friends live on top of the Great Tree - the mother of all trees. When in danger, the forest animals ask for help from their Indian hero by saying “Cru-Cru”. The message is then passed from one animal to another, echoing through the vastness of the forest until Tainá gets hears the cry for help, and uses the power of the Blue Arrow to start her adventure.
Always in a playful and humorous way, the Guardians of the Amazon never fail to respond to the request for help, even if it means coming face-to-face with strong currents, a herd of jaws or even a gigantic coiled sucuri. After all, they are Kirimbau, in whose language, Taina means brave.

Tainá, o macaco, Catu, o urubu-rei, Pepe e a pequena ouriça, Suri, vão viver divertidas aventuras enquanto exploram e aprendem mais sobre a maior floresta tropical do mundo e sua extraordinária diversidade. A série pretende estimular nas crianças o respeito à diversidade, às diferenças culturais, suas habilidades e limitações, trazendo uma mensagem de respeito, amizade e cuidado com a natureza em cada episódio.
“Tainá em animação foi um sonho de longa data que agora se concretiza. Esse formato certamente potencializará a difusão da mensagem de cuidado com a Natureza e com a diversidade que Tainá traz para as crianças brasileiras e de todo mundo”, afirma Virginia Limberger, Produtora da Sincrocine.

“Tainá e os Guardiões da Amazônia” foi o último trabalho de Pedro Rovai, reconhecido cineasta brasileiro e criador da personagem Tainá. A série, certamente, irá despertar o interesse e reforçar o amor pela Floresta Amazônica.
SOBRE A SÉRIE
No coração da Floresta Amazônica, Tainá e seus amigos vivem no alto da Grande Árvore – a mãe de todas as árvores. Quando em perigo, os animais da floresta pedem ajuda à indiazinha falando “Cru-Cru”, o chamado que é transmitido de um bicho para o outro, ecoando pela imensidão da floresta até encontrar Tainá. A indiazinha utiliza o poder da Flecha Azul para iniciar sua aventura.
Sempre de maneira lúdica e com muito humor, os Guardiões da Amazônia não deixam de atender ao pedido de ajuda mesmo que isso signifique enfrentar fortes correntezas, uma manada de queixadas ou até mesmo uma gigantesca sucuri enrolada. Afinal, eles são Kirimbau, que na língua da Tainá significa corajoso.

Embora todos pensem que ela nasceu para ser uma pianista clássica, seu verdadeiro sonho e paixão é ser uma estrela de música pop.
No final da primeira temporada, Kally apresenta uma música original do pop clássico. Os juízes se recusam a nomeá-la como a vencedora, porque ela apresentou um gênero musical que não é permitido nas regras da competição, mas acabam votando a seu favor, o que permite que Kally mantenha sua bolsa e continue no Allegro.
