Nickelodeon India Distributes Hand-Wash Kits to Somajiguda Students
The aim of the campaign was to guide students to maintain hygiene. Several plays and movies on sanitation were projected to create awareness among the students. "Starting today we are planning to distribute sanitation kits to all government schools in Hyderabad," said Ayesha, a representative from Nickelodeon. A magic show performed by Nickelodeon star Rudra was conducted for the children, who were extremely delighted to meet Rudra, star of the brand-new Nick show Rudra Boom Chik Chik Boom - India's first magictoon, and together played games. To add even more fun, Nickelodeon organised games and distributed gifts to students throughout the entire school.

The winners of this year’s Licensing Awards have been crowned in a glittering ceremony on Tuesday 11th September 2018, which saw some 1,400 retailers, licensors, licensees and industry executives pack into The Grosvenor House Hotel, London.
Welcoming everyone to the event – which was presided over by Rory Bremner – Jakki Brown, joint Managing Director (MD) of Max Publishing, which owns and organises The Licensing Awards, commented: “These awards exist only because of you, whether you are retailer, a licensor, licensee or a supplier.
“Licensing, to be successful, needs everyone to work together. This event – the largest licensing awards event in the world – is testament to your collective flair, commitment and passion.”
Arriving at the start of the evening – which was backed by Brand Licensing Europe as headline sponsor and supported by trade body LIMA – guests were welcomed by Acamar Films’ Bing and Flop, before walking through a fabulous entrance way to mark 60 years of Barbie.
Among the treats enjoyed by guests pre-awards included the world licensing premiere of the much anticipated Moon and Me from Sutukki.

Leading up to the awards, LicensingSource.net interviewed Alex Salisbury, a retail licensing manager, Nickelodeon Viacom Consumer Products (NVCP) to celebrate her becoming a finalist for the 2018 LIMA UK Rising Stars Award in the Licensing Awards 2018. The award ultimately went to Tasmyn Knight, licensing associate UK, Cartoon Network Enterprises on the night, however, it's still an honour to be recognised with a nomination. My route into the licensing industry went something like this…
I started my career in a small business called Wicked that sells boomerangs all over the world. It was in this role that I discovered the wider toy industry and absolutely loved it. Seeking a new challenge, I went to Mattel and cut my teeth as a brand manager on the Nordics business looking after Barbie & Hot Wheels. I developed a good relationship with the licensing team who were amazing and gave me a lot of professional guidance. I joined Nick in January 2017 and haven’t looked back! I am genuinely having the time of my life doing what I love and I’m surrounded by such talented and driven people who make me laugh pretty much every day.
How long in the industry?
Coming up to 2 years now.
When I was growing up, I had no idea that ‘licensing’ was an industry, so I wanted to be…
A backing dancer. I spent many hours practicing in my room.
Biggest inspiration in the licensing industry?
My vp Marianne. She is just brilliant and such a well-respected figure within the industry.
Best thing about your current role?
A lot of my time is spent with buyers so I love the fact that I have many different conversations every day, learning about different categories and how they work. I’m constantly gaining more insight into retail – there’s always more to learn, particularly in such a rapidly changing environment.
What are you most proud of within your licensing career to date?
I’m really proud of my PAW Patrol Super Saturdays campaign at The Entertainer which is up for Best Retail Execution at The Licensing Awards this year. The Entertainer did such a good job bringing it to life in-store and the results were fantastic so fingers crossed.
Licensed character you can most identify with (and why)?
My nickname in the team is Trinket, the unicorn from Nella the Princess Knight. Trinket is Nella’s best friend who goes along on all the adventures with Nella but doesn’t like getting her hooves dirty – she’s a bit fabulous. I guess I have my diva moments…
What were your first thoughts when you were revealed as a nominee for the LIMA UK Rising Star Award?
Incredibly proud and grateful to have been nominated.
The adage goes, once you enter the licensing industry, you never really leave… what are your short-term goals for your career in licensing?
Land more – hopefully award winning – campaigns at retail. I’d also like to dedicate more time getting to know everyone in the industry, so watch this space…

Rainbow to Highlight Brand Portfolio at BLE 2018
Winx Club is the evergreen classic that follows the adventures of a group of young fairies as they combine school life with battling against the forces of evil. The show mixes action/adventure with comedy and appeals to girls from 4 to 10 right up to tween/teen. The brand first debuted in 2004 and now boasts 182 produced episodes, 4 TV movies and 3 theatrical releases. Series 8 – featuring 26 brand new episodes – will premiere at the beginning of 2019 to celebrate 15 years since the launch of the brand. The fifteenth anniversary will also see Rainbow launch a global marketing plan that will reach out to the millions of Winx fans across the world and involve lots of exciting and engaging activities and involve the brand’s licensing partners. It's currently unknown whether Nickelodeon will acquire the rights to Winx Club season eight, like previous seasons. Spin-off series, World of Winx currently airs on Nickelodeon Greece.
44 Cats is a Rainbow production in collaboration with Antoniano Bologna and Rai Ragazzi. It follows the daily adventures of Lampo, Milady, Pilou, and Meatball – four adorable kittens who are part of a music band named The Buffycats. The protagonists live in the Clubhouse, a garage beside old Granny Pina’s house. Their adventures explore the themes of friendship and altruism: the four cats love helping others and always find creative solutions to everyday hitches by dealing naturally with important themes like tolerance, diversity and acceptance. This eagerly anticipated show will debut on Rai Yoyo in November 2018, whilst other broadcasting deals have been signed with Nickelodeon (multi-territorial, excluding in the U.S. and Latin America), Discovery Kids (Latin America), and Super RTL (Germany). Major broadcasting deals in France, Russia, UK and many other countries are also in the pipeline.
In addition, visitors to BLE 2018 can learn about Rainbow’s role as licensing representative for Santoro’s renowned Gorjuss collection across Italy, France and Turkey, where the company is building on existing success in BTS and apparel by extending the brand into additional categories.
Rainbow is also enjoying success with one of the biggest brands in football – Juventus – in the Russian market. Rainbow is the exclusive agent for the property across Russia/CIS and is currently in talks across many different sectors. Deals are already finalised with Atributika and Club for apparel and accessories respectively, and more are in the pipeline across all major categories – including toys, tableware and back to school.
Nickelodeon Latinoamérica is also partnering with Rainbow Group to produce the networks brand-new show, Club 57. Club 57 is a brand-new time-travelling themed series that tells the story of a 14-year-old tech loving girl who accidentally travels back in time. Stuck in the past, she discovers her passion for music, and falls in love. The first season of Club 57 will feature 60 one-hour episodes. Under the deal, Rainbow Group will have the rights to Club 57 in Italy and represent the IP for consumer products globally, whilst Viacom International Studios will handle distribution of the property for the rest world of the world.
In additional news, Sony Creative Products (SCP) will be debuting hit preschool property Mofy at BLE, in stand G10. The sweet cotton-puff-built, stop-motion series already broadcast in more than 50 countries, and SCP is seeking licensing agents for UK (where it airs on Channel 5's Milkshake programming block) and other countries in Europe at the show. The story center ons Mofy, a fluffy, lovable rabbit who each episode learns about the world around her, discovers and understands feelings and emotions, and learns to be kinder and braver. The character is very appealing to very young children as well as mothers and young women. The series has also featured on NOGGIN, Nickelodeon's streaming service for preschoolers in the US.
Mofy has enjoyed massive licensing success in Japan, notably in personal care, but also in confectionery, yoghurt, apps, books and magazines, sticker books, digital publications, DVDs and, of course, plush. There are also numerous tie-ins and promotions with magazines, shopping malls, celebrities and retail corners as well as very popular Mofy-themed live appearances, special events and even exhibitions. This success has now been translated to the international marketplace. More than 650 SKU of Mofy licensed products are sold or under approval elsewhere in the world, among them stationery, plush, back to school, bedding, bags and purses, personal care items, DVDs, apparel, activity books, games, puzzles, toys and accessories. The character’s appeal to mums and young women has also given it potential in the high-end and fashion markets.
Takehiko Ohya, Global Business Group Licensing Manager, SCP, says: “With an established appeal in a number of kawaii markets, not to mention excellent ratings on one of the UK’s most popular children’s programming strands, the time is right to announce the expansion of Mofy’s presence in Europe – and where better to do so than at BLE? We look forward to meeting potential partners at BLE and telling them more about this uniquely appealing property.”
Mofy is a co-production between Japan (SCP), Italy (Misseri Studio & RAI) and Germany (ZDF). It was inspired by a picture book published in 2008 and developed by Japanese illustrator Aki Kondo with Misseri Studio.

Madelyn Miranda Joins ‘Dora the Explorer’ Movie as Young Dora
The up-and-coming nine-year-old star will play Young Dora in the movie, which stars Isabela Moner (100 Things to Do Before High School, Legends of the Hidden Temple, Transformers: The Last Knight, Sicario: Day of the Soldado, Instant Family) in the film’s title role, a girl who has spent most of her life exploring the jungle with them, but now must navigate her most dangerous adventure yet: high school.
The studio has committed to developing a cast full of Latinx talent.
Miranda now joins Eva Longoria and Michael Peña, who play the parents of the titular character; Eugenio Derbez (Overboard, Instructions Not Included; How to Be A Latin Lover), who plays Alejandro, a mysterious jungle inhabitant who tries to protect the teenagers from the marauders; big screen newcomer Micke Moreno (Escobar: Paradise Lost), in the role of cousin Diego; Nicholas Coombe (Spy Kids: Mission Control, Midnight Sun) as Randy, a fellow high schooler who develops an immediate crush on Dora; Madeleine Madden (Picnic at Hanging Rock, Tidelands) as the school’s snooty class president, Sammy; and Academy Award nominee Adriana Barraza (Babel, Amores Perros, Thor, The 33) as Dora’s grandma, Abuelita Valerie. Temuera Morrison (Green Lantern, Moana), who will play the role of Powell.
Per the studio, the movie will tell the story of Dora, a girl who has spent most of her life exploring the jungle with her parents, but now must navigate her most dangerous adventure yet: high school. Always the explorer, Dora quickly finds herself leading Boots (her best friend, a monkey), Diego, and a rag tag group of teens on a live-action adventure to save her parents and solve the impossible mystery behind a lost Inca civilization.
Per Madelyn Miranda's IMDb mini-bio:
"Madelyn began her acting career when she was only three years old and her first commercial audition was for Children's Motrin. She was very excited, but it wasn't her first booking. Her first bookings were for print work with Wal- Mart, Disney, Costco, and American Girl. Madelyn then started taking acting classes and got more into acting and since then she has worked on several short films [including 'Clouds' and 'Bernice] as well as the TV show SUPERSTORE. Madelyn loves to perform in many ways including, acting, singing and she also loves gymnastics, urban acrobatic/aerial training. Madelyn was also recently up for the lead role in the new Pet Cemetery. Madelyn is represented by DDO Artists Agency and New Beginnings Entertainment."
It has been revealed that Madelyn Miranda's minors contract that the 9-year-old will receive $8,420 for a guaranteed week's worth of filming. She'll get around $3,500 a week if she films anything beyond that. There are a couple of movie star perks written into the agreement: Madelyn will get put up in a swanky hotel while on the job, and be given a daily allowance of $65. Plus, she gets to fly business class during production. Miranda is slated to start filming her scenes today, Wednesday, 12th September 2018.
Dora the Explorer is produced by Christopher Robin producer Kristin Burr, who is joined by longtime Bobin associate, executive producer John G. Scotti (The Muppets, Muppets Most Wanted, Alice Through the Looking Glass) as well as executive producers Julia Pistor (The Spiderwick Chronicles, A Series of Unfortunate Events) and Eugenio Derbez.
Bobin has assembled a talented team behind the camera that also includes reunions with Oscar®-winning production designer Dan Hennah (Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies, Alice Through the Looking Glass) and costume designer Rahel Afiley (The Muppets, Muppets Most Wanted, Flight of the Conchords). The pair will be joined by six-time Goya Award winning (and BAFTA nominated) cinematographer Javier Aguirresarobe, A.S.C. (Secretos del corazón, The Others, Blue Jasmine, Thor: Ragnarok), film editor Mark Everson (Paddington, Paddington 2) and BAFTA-nominated VFX supervisor Andy Brown (Black Panther, House of Flying Daggers, Moulin Rouge!)
Dora the Explorer is currently in production, and is filming entirely in Australia’s Gold Coast, in the state of Queensland on the continent’s east coast south of Brisbane. Village Roadshow Studios, where the production is headquartered, has been host to several major Hollywood movies in the last few years, including The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, The Shallows, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok and, most recently, DC’s Aquaman. In addition to designer Hennah’s stage builds, the production is utilizing Queensland’s diverse landscape, notably tropical forests near Tamborine Mountain and Tallebudgera, to portray Dora’s jungle habitat.
Dora the Explorer is a Paramount Players and Nickelodeon production in association with Walden Media. The film is being supported by the Queensland Government via Screenland Queensland. Paramount will release the film on August 2, 2019.

Nickelodeon Gears-Up to Celebrate 15th Annual Worldwide Day of Play!
On the ground, Nickelodeon will celebrate with over 4,000 events hosted by local and national partners including: Afterschool Alliance; Boys & Girls Clubs of America; Girl Scouts of the USA; Kiwanis International’s Builders Club and K-Kids; Laureus Sport for Good; National Fitness Foundation; NFL PLAY 60; Playworks; Police Athletic League; Special Olympics International; The Aspen Institute’s Project Play; The Association of Children’s Museums; US Play Coalition and USA BMX. Additionally, the network will launch two new grant programs in partnership with Laureus Sport for Good and National Fitness Foundation in honor of Worldwide Day of Play’s 15th anniversary.
Nickelodeon will commemorate Worldwide Day of Play on-air with interstitials featuring cast members from Nick’s hit series I Am Frankie. The interstitials, which highlight the importance of physical play in kids’ lives and encourage them to get outside and get active, will air across all Nickelodeon platforms.
In addition to hosting nationwide grassroots events with its partners, the network will also mark Worldwide Day of Play with the launch of two new grant programs in partnership with Laureus Sport for Good, funding underserved communities’ afterschool programs, and National Fitness Foundation along with DonorsChoose, which will fund in-school activities. Both grant programs aim to bring fitness and play to kids across the country.
In May, Nick kicked off its summer-long play campaign, a slime-filled cross-country tour which visited: Phoenix, Ariz.; St. Louis, Mo.; Pittsburgh, Pa.; Houston, TX and Oakland, Calif.; for Worldwide Day of Play events in partnership with the Children’s Museum of Phoenix; The Magic House, St. Louis Children’s Museum; the Pittsburgh Steelers; Commissioner Rodney Ellis and Harris County Precinct One; and the After-School All-Stars, the Oakland Athletics and the Oakland A’s Community Fund.
The tour culminates in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park on Sept. 15, with Nick teaming up with Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York City’s Walk for the Kids. The fun-filled event will feature appearances by stars from Nickelodeon’s hit series I Am Frankie, Alex Hook, and Carson Rowland; Nick-themed games and activities; a slime booth; costumed characters; a Nick Radio dance party and more. The network will be joined by longstanding partners including: Canine Companions for Independence; Jr. NBA; KidTribe; MLB “PLAY BALL;” New York Red Bulls; NFL PLAY 60; Peppa Pig and George; Playworks; The Muddy Puddles Project; Tough Mudder’s “Mini Mudder” and USA BMX; and new partner Nike.
Nickelodeon is expanding Worldwide Day of Play’s reach through a new partnership with Mini Mudder, Tough Mudder’s one-mile Mud Run designed for adventure-seeking kids and consists of eight to ten fun and challenging team-focused obstacles. In celebration of Worldwide Day of Play, Mini Mudder will add a brand-new Nickelodeon-themed “Slime” obstacle to its courses, providing kids with the opportunity to be physically active while also having fun.

Nickelodeon Greenlights ‘Middle School Moguls’ CG-Animated Specials; Daniella Perkins, Jade Pettyjohn, Haley Tju, Jane Lynch, Tim Gunn Among Voice Cast
Middle School Moguls is inspired by the concept created by Gina and Jenae Heitkamp, who also serve as co-executive producers. The specials chronicle the ambitions of four new friends striving to create their own companies while attending Mogul Academy, an entrepreneurial school where kid-business dreams come true. They follow students Valeria (voiced by Olympic gold medalist Laurie Hernandez), Winnie (Daniella Perkins, Knight Squad, Blurt!), Celeste (Jade Pettyjohn, School of Rock) and Yuna (Haley Tju, Bella & the Bulldogs), who are empowered by Mogul Academy to test their business creativity, innovation and grit, but being a kid boss comes with grown-up challenges so they’ll have to think outside of the box and “mogulize” if they want to make their big dreams a reality.
Additional voice cast includes Tim Gunn (Project Runway) as Wren, a non-binary teacher in the Mogul Academy Fashion Branch, and Jane Lynch (Glee, iCarly) as Victoria Steele, the Headmaster of Mogul Academy. Additional casting news to come.

Fans in the UK will be able to watch the first episode of Rise of the TMNT, “Mystic Mayhem” on Nick.co.uk, Nicktoons.co.uk and the Nick Play app from Saturday 15th September 2018. Sky Subscribers will also be able to watch a sneak peek of Episode 1 along with four additional stories and 4 pieces of additional short form content exclusively on Sky VOD.
