Update 8/1: It's been a while since we last heard anything about Sid and Marty Krofft's The Bugaloos reboot pilot for Nickelodeon. However, Marty Krofft recently confirmed during their SDCC 2018 panel "Sid & Marty Krofft Pictures" that the TV legends are reshooting the The Bugaloos pilot, however, this time, the show won't geared towards preschoolers. Marty Krofft confirmed at Comic Con that they are reshooting The Bugaloos pilot.This time the new Bugaloos show will not be for preschoolers. It's unknown if it will be for older kids or teenagers.
In the listing for their San Diego Comic-Con 2017 panel, TV legends Sid and Marty Krofft, the creators of beloved children's television series such as Nickelodeon's hit preschool series Mutt & Stuff, H.R. Pufnstuf and Land Of The Lost, have announced the exciting news that they've recently produced a pilot for Nickelodeon, which will reboot one of their biggest hits, The Bugaloos!:
"Sid and Marty Krofft are coming to Comic-Con. Join the legendary producers and their moderator David Arquette and other surprise guests. The Kroffts are experiencing one of the greatest brand rebirths in Hollywood history. Their hit Nickelodeon show Mutt & Stuff just finished shooting 73 episodes. They're currently in production for a series that is a reboot of Sigmund and the Sea Monsters for Amazon Studios, and they recently produced another pilot for Nickelodeon, rebooting one of their biggest hits, The Bugaloos. Come hear showbiz stories and tales from the 1970s all the way through to the present day. And in an exclusive for Comic-Con, Sid and Marty will discuss their secret new projects in the pipeline for the future."
The Bugaloos follows a musical group composed of four British-accented teenagers with bug wings, who live in fictional Tranquility Forest. However, Benita Bizarre wants to put an end to their goody-goody behavior, and tries to capture and/or destroy them with the help of her henchthings Woofer and Tweeter. The series originally aired on NBC, running for 17 episodes between September 12, 1970 – September 2, 1972.
The Bugaloos stars Wayne Laryea as Harmony (a bumblebee) who plays the keyboard; John Philpott as Courage (a ladybug) who plays the drums; Caroline Ellis and Joy (a butterfly), who played percussion and provided lead and backup vocals; John McIndoe as I.Q. (a grasshopper), who played the guitar and provided lead vocals; and Martha Raye as Benita Bizarre, who lives in a gigantic jukebox, and uses it to broadcast her own brand of blaring, obnoxious, unpleasant "music." A dreadful singer, she is furious at the popularity of The Bugaloos's more melodic, upbeat sound, and she plots elaborate, unsuccessful schemes to destroy or enslave them.
The Bugaloos aired on TV Land in the late '90s.

Nickelodeon UK to Premiere 'Star Falls' on Saturday 4th August 2018; Digitally Premieres First Episode
Nickelodeon UK & Ireland will start to premiere and show Nickelodeon's brand-new live-action series Star Falls Saturdays and Sundays at 10:30am from Saturday 4th August 2018! Following each episodes debut, Nick UK & Eire will encore each all-new episode the same day at 4:30pm.
Update (1/8): To celebrate the UK and Irish debut of Star Falls, Nickelodeon UK & Ireland has launched the networks official Star Falls show website at nick.co.uk/starfalls and show area on the all-new look Nick Play app, where fans can find out more about Star Falls and watch exclusive video clips! Additionally, fans can watch the first episode now ahead of its TV debut on Nickelodeon On Demand on Sky VOD and via NOW TV.
Created by George Doty IV (iCarly, Victorious, Drake & Josh, Max & Shred, Scooby Doo and the Loch Ness Monster), Star Falls centers on Sophia, a strong-willed teen who persuades a Hollywood movie star and his family to live in her house while he shoots a movie in town, all with the hopes of setting him up with her mom. But the star’s three kids find their new rural life is a drastic change from the L.A. lifestyle they’re accustomed to. Everyone’s lives are hilariously turned upside down as the kids struggle to help their parents find love and adjust to what could be their new life. Nickelodeon has ordered 20 episodes for the show's first season. Star Falls was filmed in Canada by Breakthrough Entertainment during summer 2017, and will also air on YTV in Canada from September 2018.
In the series premiere, "The Celebrity Setup" (#101), when Sophia rescues the dog of Hollywood star Craig Brooks, she seizes the opportunity to set her mom up with him. When that doesn't work, she takes things a step further and has the star and his three kids move in with them!

In the brand-new PAW Patrol 30-minute special "Ultimate Rescue: Pups Save the Tigers", when searching for elusive rumble top tigers, the Turbots fall into a cave deep inside a volcano; the PAW Patrol performs a paratrooper-style rescue from Skye's ultimate copter to save the day!

Bradenton, Florida - Summer is running out, and it wouldn’t be complete without at least one trip to the ballpark.
The Florida State League’s Bradenton Marauders, the Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, are playing at their home ground of LECOM Park on Saturday, August 4, and will be running three special promotions: Nickelodeon Night featuring SpongeBob SquarePants, Back to School Night and Disability Awareness Night!
The night will feature character appearances by SpongeBob, Patrick, & Squidward, plus a special backpack giveaway in which the first 500 fans aged 12 & under in attendance will receive a awesome FREE Marauders backpack! Following the game, fans can join the Bradenton Marauders for an epic fireworks display, presented by Budweiser!
In honor of Nickelodeon Night, the Bradenton Marauders will also be wearing these sponge-tastic SpongeBob SquarePants specialty jerseys during the match, in which they play the Clearwater Threshers. Viacom, NYT Share How They ‘Gamify’ the Data Experience
Three experts from three very different media and entertainment companies gathered Tuesday, July 24 for a panel discussion on how to use data and analytics to attract and retain their customers, reports the Media & Entertainment Services Alliance.
The discussion — “Gamifying the Data Experience” — was held during the Smart Content Summit East event, part of the Media & Entertainment (M&E) Day at the Microsoft Conference Center in New York, and saw a similar theme emerge: look at the data to rethink pre-conceived notions about your audience.
“What’s best for our users is what’s best for our company,” said Allison McHenry, senior manager engineering of games for The New York Times. “Because we’re a subscription-based product, if we can consider ways that people find our product more engaging or more fun, keep them on the site longer, it’s a win. We’re constantly looking at data and analytics to see how to keep [consumers] engaged longer.”
As an example, she shared how The Times is experimenting with how to get people back to the site daily via games, including removing archives of puzzles, and making readers return the following day to see the answers from the previous day’s puzzles. “Our data has shown that people [return] far beyond what our initial projections showed,” McHenry said. “That strategy turned out to be effective.” She also noted that the paper digs deep into the data for those who comes regularly to play the paper’s famed crossword puzzles, and plan ahead accordingly. “We’re able to extract a lot of useful data out of that,” she said.
Jyoti Menon Varkey, Vice President (VP) of strategy and partnerships for Viacom’s Audience Science Group, said her company has long been using data to inform its strategies, especially to bridge the online and offline worlds, whether that involves identifying talent or finding out which shows work with events. It gives Viacom an understanding on what’s working and what isn’t, and opens up a better profile of the audience for any given brand.
“It’s also finding out how to reach them from a linear TV standpoint, using all this data I have … to give me a better profile of my audience,” she said.
One of Viacom’s priorities is a focus on live events, and along with that comes a greater understanding of Viacom’s fans. “It’s a huge strategic priority, beyond our core, traditional cable and content business,” Varkey added. “Our CEO has mandated that every flagship brand of ours — MTV, Comedy Central, BET, Nickelodeon — has a live experience, or an on-the-ground event to bring in more users.”
Varkey pointed to the two-day “Nickelodeon SlimeFest” event held in Chicago earlier this summer, the first time the event was held in the U.S. “Going in we knew we were facing a lot of headwinds, low awareness,” she said. Data and analytics were critical, to gauge who was buying tickets and personalizing the messages, depending on where the ticket buyers were coming from. “Data has helped us validate our strategies in some ways,” Varkey added.
Eric Wong, VP of information for Galaxy Media, which owns a number of media brands, including “The World Series of Poker,” and runs its own OTT service, said examining user data has been absolutely crucial toward retention.
“When we dig into the data to discover the engagement rates of our users and what we’ve found is if we have people coming in and watching lots of content at one time, at first we thought they might be valuable customers because they’re watching 10 hours of content all at once,” he said. “But what we found is that churn rates are higher for those who just come in once and watch a large [amount] of content.”
What his company has done is used data and analytics to personalize its communication strategy, including emails and ads, based on past watch history. That’s resulted in a 20% lift in engagement rates, Wong said.
The 2018 M&E Day also included Content Protection Summit East and Entertainment Production in the Cloud (EPIC) conference tracks, providing M&E technology teams valuable insights into the creation, production, distribution, security and analysis of content.

Viacom Channels May Be Coming Back To PlayStation Vue
Just over a year ago, Viacom pulled their programming from over-the-top subscription service PlayStation Vue. According to Viacom at the time they wanted to focus on cable TV service instead of streaming services. However, as Viacom is renewing its focus on streaming services, it looks like Viacom channels may be returning to PlayStation Vue very soon!
Cord Cutters News is reporting that earlier today (Tuesday, July 31), Viacom channels suddenly returned to PlayStation Vue's Electronic Program Guide (EPG) - along with A&E Networks channels - on select devices. However, the channels were removed again later in the day.
It's currently unknown whether this was a mistake by PlayStation Vue, or if they are in early stages of adding the channels back to the service. Viacom hinted in June that they are hoping to add Viacom channels back on OTT services, such as PlayStation Vue and Hulu - and follows Viacom's recent deal with Hulu to bring hundreds of series episodes more than 20 movies from Viacom networks such as Nickelodeon and MTV to the platform.
Viacom is also in the midst of identifying intellectual property within it vaults that could be an ideal fit for a digital or linear programmer outside of Viacom. One such show is Pinky Malinky, which will bow on Netflix on Friday 17th August 2018. Viacom's MTV Studios is also rebooting cult favorite Daria, which will be shopped to outside linear networks and SVOD platforms.
Here are the channels that Viacom pulled from PlayStation Vue back in November 2016: Nickelodeon, Nick Jr., Nicktoons, NickMusic, MTV, MTV2, VH1, Comedy Central, Spike, TV Land, BET, MTV Live, MTV Classic, MTVU, Logo TV, CMT, CMT Music, BET Gospel, BET Jams, BET Soul, Centric.
