Nickelodeon At Comic-Con International: San Diego 2018 News Round-Up | Day 1 | #NickSDCC

Welcome to the first part of NickALive!'s special Nickelodeon at San Diego Comic-Con 2018 News Round-Up! In celebration of Nickelodeon attending Comic-Con International: San Diego 2018, below is a selection of news and highlights from the second day of Nick at SDCC '18, plus a few extras! Enjoy!



Panels for Thursday 19th July 2018:


Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles


1:45p.m. - 2:45p.m. (Room: 6A): Rise up! The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are back with Nickelodeon’s brand-new mutation of New York’s half-shell heroes with a panel that celebrates the latest incarnation of Turtles and reinvention of the world famous franchise. Joining the discussion is the new voice cast--Omar Miller as Raph, Ben Schwartz as Leo, Josh Brener as Donnie, Brandon Mychal Smith as Mikey, Kat Graham as April O’Neil, and Eric Bauza as Splinter--along with the co-executive producers Andy Suriano and Ant Ward, and legendary voice director Rob Paulsen. The panel will feature never-before-seen clips from the upcoming series and be moderated by Keely Flaherty (BuzzFeed).

KidsVO Cartoon Voices

10:00am | Room 6A

KidsVo Productions assembles the next generation of voiceover kids! Zach Callison (Steven Universe), Laya Hayes (Doc McStuffins), Justin Felbinger (Miles from Tomorrowland, Amphibia), Sean-Ryan Petersen (Victor & Valentino), and Haley Tju (Bella and the Bulldogs, Big Hero 6) show off their skills by reading a script by Cory Edwards (Hoodwinked), moderated by Tony Gonzales (top kids VO coach), followed by a brief Q&A.

Spotlight on Larry Houston

11:00am - 12:00pm | Room 5AB

Comic-Con guest Larry F. Houston is the Emmy Award-nominated producer/director of The X-Men animated show, the phenomenally successful '90s series that was part of the foundation that helped launch Marvel's multi-billion-dollar franchises. Hired by Filmation Studios as the first African American Saturday morning cartoon storyboard artist, he storyboarded and directed some of the most popular '80s and '90s classic shows, including Thundarr, Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, G.I. JOE, Jonny Quest, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Captain Planet, Fantastic Four, Mighty Orbots, and Bionic Six. Hear all the inside info on his career in this spotlight.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles For All!

Three eras of the Ninja Turtles collide in one room! Co-creator Kevin Eastman is joined by the current comic book creative team of Tom Waltz and Bobby Curnow, as they talk about the past, present, and future of the heroes in a half shell. Turtle power! There will also be a special Turtle Trivia with prizes for the ultimate TMNT fan.

Entertainment is LGBTQ

BOOM! Studios and GLAAD present an in-depth roundtable discussion about LGBTQ representation in pop culture and the path forward to a brighter, more inclusive future, with panelists from all corners of the entertainment world, including Lilah Sturges (Lumberjanes: The Infernal Compass), Marguerite Bennett (Animosity, new Mighty Morphin Power Rangers writer), Noah Hayes (Wet Hot American Summer). and others. Moderated by Megan Townsend (director of entertainment research & analysis, GLAAD).

The Simpsons and SpongeBob Smile-Time Hour

Creative director Nathan Kane and managing editors Terry Delegeane and Chris Duffy join forces for a tour de "farce" of the best humor comics in the business. Meet some of the Bongo and United Plankton writers and artists who tickle your four-color funny bones and find out what's in stores in the months to come!

How to Make Cartoons When You Can't Draw (a.k.a. How to Write for Animation)

2:00pm | Room 25ABC

Do you love cartoons but have always been frustrated by your inability to even draw a turtle? Moderator Brendan Hay (Harvey Street Kids) talks to Jessica Gao (Rick & Morty), Zeb Wells (SuperMansion), A. C. Bradley (Trollhunters), Aliki Theofilopoulos (Phineas & Ferb), Kevin Sullivan (The Loud House), and Mehar Sethi (BoJack Horseman) about how they broke in, what the differences are compared to writing for live action, how to think visually, and why animation writing allows you to become a cartoon character yourself.

The Super-Awesome Authors AMA Smackdown

These pro writers are ready and willing to answer (almost) any questions you have about what it takes to make it as a scribe in the 21st century. Maybe you're dreaming about publishing that first novel or comic, but you're not sure which way to go. Is it better to take the indie route? Aim for the traditional New York path?
