Paw Patrol Live! sailing into Atlanta's Fox Theatre
Paw Patrol Live! “The Great Pirate Adventure” is coming to the Fox Theatre in Midtown next weekend, and Tony Ardolino could not be more thrilled.
“I’m just so excited to see the kids and how they’re react to the show. I can’t wait to sing along with them,” said Ardolino, who plays Ryder, the main character, in the national touring show. “Every city is different and the different ways the kids witness it, but … I’m interested to see how Atlanta’s going to react to the show.”
Based on “Paw Patrol,” the Canadian animated TV show, the touring live show will have performances at the Fox June 30 and July 1 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. each day.
The TV show debuted in 2013 and airs in the United States on Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. It’s about a boy named Ryder who leads a group of rescue puppies who save their community from everyday problems. The show has won 10 honors, including two Canadian Screen Awards.
Ardolino, a native of Oak Ridge, New Jersey, who graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Los Angeles, has been with the tour since September. He said Paw Patrol Live! stands out because it’s interactive and whisks the audience away to a pirate-themed journey.
“Our show is about the treasure map, so we have all these clues to help the audience find the treasure,” Ardolino said. “It’s so cool. It’s almost like they’re transported to the show, with the pups and Mayor Humdinger. The studio is amazing and the special effects are excellent.”
Matt Lamb, who plays Mayor Humdinger, agreed.
“What’s great about the live show is it definitely embodies the cartoon that children and their parents watch on a regular basis,” he said. “The same values from the cartoon are also in the live show, with social skills and teamwork and citizenship and problem solving. (For) the children and their parents, it will be like they’re watching a cartoon, but it’s live.
“It’s great to bring this show to life and to have a connection with the audience. It’s really a thrilling sensation to get to do that, to bring … their favorite characters to life. It’s very fulfilling to see the kids’ faces. They’re so happy and excited. Now instead of seeing their favorite characters inside a television set, they’re right there.”
Lamb, who has been with the Paw Patrol Live! since it premiered in 2016, was with the show last year when it stopped in Atlanta. The Pittsburgh native, who attended that city’s Point Park University, said he’s looking forward to his return trip to Georgia’s capital city, where he plans to spend time with two friends living here.
“What’s nice is the venue itself is absolutely astounding. It’s gorgeous,” Lamb said of the Fox. “I’m very fortunate to play that theater … a second time.”
Ardolino, who went to a show at the Fox as a child, said he looks forward to performing in the Egyptian and Spanish-decorated venue that “looks like something out of Arabian Nights.”
“Playing the Fox is huge,” Ardolino said. “I also want to go to the (Atlanta) Botanical. Garden. I am a huge Instagram-er and look forward posting photos of that. I also want to go to the (World of Coke).”
Lamb said all metro Atlantans should come to the show.
“Audiences have enjoyed it since Day 1,” he said. “They’re in for a real treat. … It’s very fulfilling. It’s a real joy to be able to perform these characters for them. It’s been a really great opportunity to be a part of it.”
Tickets start at $22.50, plus applicable fees, and can be purchased at the Fox box office, by calling 855-285-8499 or by visiting www.foxtheatre.org. For more information on the show, visit www.pawpatrollive.com.
