Did the skills of fire-, earth-, air-, and water-bending come to humankind semi-naturally, from people watching animals like sky bison and dragons (semi-naturally, remember?) haul the elements in their own way, or was it bestowed upon humanity via the super magical lion turtles?
The latter answer is from the The Legend Of Korra follow-up series, while the former is from the original Avatar. Asking that question digs down into the muddy origins of magic in the universe, and the response was met with, like her serves, nothing but love.

Avatar last air bender fans only: Question- If the original benders were the sky bisons, badger moles, and dragons; how does that tie in with Avatar Wan when the lion sea turtle gave all the people bending power?????
— Serena Williams (@serenawilliams) March 20, 2018
The lion turtles gave bending powers to humans. But humans learnt to master it from the animals (and the moon for water benders).

Hummmm but so... the humans had it first???
— Serena Williams (@serenawilliams) March 20, 2018
Yes, I suppose, bending is a special power for humans, for animals it's normal/natural, animals aren't exactly benders, they are simply referred to as the original benders by humans since they learnt from them.

Got it thanks!!! It's been wracking my brain for so long

If this exchange wasn’t awesome enough, here are a few more responses that involve her geeking out or seemingly taking notes for her upcoming sports-based fan fiction:
Ok this one makes the most sense. Thanks! So the animals already knew how to bend?? Interesting 🤔🤔

BUT- remember a lot of the people left the lion turtles with bending powers. They decided to live off the turtles and make a life for them like Wan did... the sea turtles gave them all powers... ? I'm really confused

That’s pretty great, until you realize that Williams is such a super-fan that she actually voiced characters in both series. She played Ming in Avatar’s "The Day of Black Sun, Part 1: The Invasion" and a female sage in Korra’s "Beginnings, Part 1." Incredible.
#littleknownfact I guest starred on an episode of the Avatar!

The whole conversation was a dorky Grand Slam.
Needless to say, the 23-time Grand Slam singles winner made the night for a couple of Avatar fans!
IM TWEETING WITH THE GREATEST FEMALE ATHLETE OF ALL TIME ABOUT AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER THIS IS HONESTLY THE BEST MOMENT IVE EVER HAD ON TWITTER pic.twitter.com/cT8sw9cLxh

This isn’t the first time Williams has expressed her fascination with the series, either; a cursory Twitter search shows that she’s spent the last seven years advocating for the series any time anyone asks her about her favorite ’toons.
Question- am i the only adult that watches Ben 10, and the Avatar the last Airbender (not the movie but the show on Nick)????
