Discotek Media began streaming the first English-subtitled episode of the The Adventures of the Little Prince television anime on YouTube on Wednesday, December 6 under the title The Prince of the Stars: Le Petit Prince. The YouTube release follows Discotek releasing the English-dubbed version of the anime on DVD on Tuesday, October 31.
The 35-episode series aired on television in Japan between 1978 and 1979, and four additional episodes were added for the Japanese home video release, but only 26 episodes were dubbed in English to air on Nickelodeon USA. The series ran on Nick between June 1, 1985 to December 29, 1989.
The anime is based on Antoine De Saint-Exupéry's children's story. Discotek describes the anime:
The Little Prince lives on the distant asteroid B-612. There he cleans his volcanoes and cares for his magical rose. One day, a space bird named Swifty visits his tiny planet and shows him how he can hitch rides on passing comets and visit far off galaxies. Meeting new friends at every stop, the Little Prince travels across the universe and learns valuable lessons about honesty, bravery, and kindness.
Koch Vision previously released the series on DVD in 2005.
