A few things before I begin the post:
- Much of this post is borrowed from The Slowly Boiled Frog.com, which has hit the nail on the head perfectly.
- These words are the opinion of the webmaster of NickALive!, a 100% unofficial Nickelodeon fan blog. If you're upset with this post, please be upset with me, and not Nickelodeon.
The very dim bulbs at American Family Association, an anti-LGBT hate group, are extremely upset with Toys“R”Us. The toy retailer's offense is that they dared to advertise during a number-one Nickelodeon show that they don't like. According to Bill Bumpas on AFA's fake “news” blog: “Problematic content spotted in children's show … again.”
"A pro-family group is rebuking Toys"R"Us for advertising on an animated show that exposes children to LBGT content and crude language.
This is not the first time The Loud House, which airs weekdays on Nickelodeon at 5:00 pm Eastern/4:00 pm Central, has warranted a warning from One Million Moms, a ministry of the American Family Association. Monica Cole, director of the decency advocacy organization, says the network is using the show to promote controversial topics to children."
Could it be The Homosexual Agenda™?
Indeed it is:
“They're attempting to desensitize young viewers by normalizing same-gender marriage with one sister coming out as bi-sexual …
In reality, The Loud House and Nickelodeon are trying to portray life as it really exists. Whether or not AFA approves of gay people or their marriages those exist. They cannot be prayed away, they are not immoral, being gay is not contagious, and you're born gay - you cannot be turned gay. What this is all about are three fictional characters in The Loud House: Luna Loud, a main character in the series, who was revealed to be bi-sexual; and supporting characters Howard and Harold McBride, who have minor roles The married gay couple are raising Clyde McBride - best friend of lead character Lincoln Loud in the series - who is healthy and happy. The episode that introduced Howard and Harold was nominated for a GLAAD Media Award earlier this year.
"Toys"R"Us being a sponsor, it is shocking that they would support a program and sponsor a program that is pushing an agenda on controversial topics," she contends.
One Million Moms is also contacting Connections Academy, an online free public school, about advertising during the show. And Cole goes on to point out that Nickelodeon should stick to entertaining with family-friendly programming instead of pushing an agenda and promoting foul language.
What is “controversial” and “problematic?” The fact that gay people exist; the fact that gay people can legally marry or both? How is this portrayal an “agenda” in contrast to entertainment? Or is it the fact that AFA does not approve of gay people that creates this “shocking” outrage.
The fact is, many kids have two moms or two dads, and they need to be represented positively on television so they know there's nothing wrong with that - and that there's nothing wrong with being lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or cisgender. And Nickelodeon and other channels incorporating themes like this in shows should be applauded and encouraged to continue!
Sadly, the AFA wants to impose its arcane religious rules on everyone else.
Oh, and whats this about "crude language"?
In 2012 these same people were upset because Toys“R”Us was selling an Archie comic book with a gay character. Back then they were accusing the comic of indoctrination as if it would turn kids gay. This current complaint is equally moronic.
Remember this post the next time AFA complains about being designated a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center.
Unfortunately, with groups like the AFA, the littler they are, the louder they tend to be. Sigh.
The best way to support Nickelodeon in continuing with its LGBTQ+ themes in shows is to keep watching The Loud House, pick up the new Legend of Korra comics, which continues Korra's same-sex relationship with Asami (#Korrasami), and keep shopping at Toys R Us.
