Larva is a series of short vignettes that revolves the lives of Red and Yellow, two strange worms living underneath a sewer drain who have to deal with the many surprises which literally fall down from the outside world and filter through the pavement grates to their underground universe. Melted ice cream, bubble gum, strange visitors, bees… Anything is a good excuse for a new hilarious slapstick adventure.
The series, aimed at children and families, is produced by the South Korean production company Tube Entertainment (TUBAn) and distributed by Spain's Imira Entertainment. Larva launched in March 2011 and currently features 112 episodes featuring 260 two-minute segments over three seasons (Grate, House and Larva in New York, respectively), with a fourth season, Larva In The Island, set to premiere in 2018.
Nickelodeon International first acquired the rights to Larva for Spain, Portugal and South Africa in March 2013. The series also airs on Nickelodeon channels in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), Scandinavia (Sweden (Sverige) and Denmark (Danmark)), Germany (Deutschland), Austria, the Netherlands (Nederland) and Greece.
Imira’s CEO, Sergi Reitg, commented, “2017 so far has been extraordinary for Imira from a distribution point of view, closing our year with more than a 70-percent increase in sales, largely [due] to the new emerging and consolidating digital platforms who benefit from the huge range of preschool and kids’ catalog we have, as well as the multi-language versions availability and our speedy and effective digital delivery system.”
