Nickelodeon USA to Premiere Three-Part Docu-Series, "Little Ballers Indiana"

The basketball players featured in Nickelodeon’s upcoming docu-series Little Ballers Indiana may only be 11 and 12 years old, but they are some of the fiercest role models you will ever meet.

The series, led by WNBA All Star Skylar Diggins, is scheduled to premiere on Friday, March 3 at 9 p.m. on Nicktoons USA's NickSports TV block. And, over the course of three 30-minute episodes, viewers will meet six girls – Amiyah Reynolds, Mila Reynolds, Alycia Patterson, Bria Brown, Ryin Ott, and Kash Biffle – as they navigate teamwork while playing for Skylar’s Amateur Athletic Union team: the Sky Digg Ballers.

As Skylar says in the show’s opening sequence, each girl comes from different family backgrounds, with different childhood experiences. But on the court? They are a collective unit, working together toward a common goal: winning their games.

Together, the Ballers learn about team building, confidence, and strategy – not to mention the fact that gender biases about sports (you know, that boys are better than girls) are totally outdated. But it’s pretty safe to say that Amiyah, Mila, Alycia, Bria, Ryin, and Kash teach each other a lot as well; the girls learn important lessons of self-esteem and empowerment just from being each other’s teammates.

But make no mistake: the message of Little Ballers will hit home for everyone, regardless of whether or not they ever played sports. It is refreshing to witness a story of girls discovering solidarity through a sport, and how that sportsmanship translates into the bigger themes of life. Now, more than ever, we need those reminders of female empowerment and the strength of sisterhood.

Throughout the series, Skylar and other members of the WNBA offer compelling insight, working to shatter gender stereotypes and encourage the girls' confidence. Not only is it important for the Ballers to witness these empowered women who are showing them that hard work pays off, it's also essential for viewers to see these professional female athletes who excel in their field. And it seems that by the end of the series, Skylar and her teammates learn from the young players just as much as the girls learn from their experience on the court.

“There’s a thousand things you can learn through basketball,” Mila tells Teen Vogue. Amiyah adds, “Basketball has taught me a lot of things, but mainly good sportsmanship. Which means: respect.”

Little Ballers Indiana will air over three consecutive nights, Friday, March 3 through Sunday, March 5, only on NickSports. The series is a slam dunk for female empowerment.
