In a fantastic interview with Licensing Source, Marianne James, VP of Commercial Partnerships, Consumer Products and Experiences, Nickelodeon UK and Ireland mentioned how Nickelodeon are hoping the networks brand-new animated preschool series Rusty Rivets, premiering on Monday 6th March 2017 on Nick Jr. UK & Ireland/HD, will provide a great entry point for preschoolers to join the 'maker movement'.
Nickelodeon already has a STEM-based (science, technology, engineering and maths) series in Blaze and the Monster Machines, and it believes the arrival of Rusty Rivets (above) will complement it further. The show – which follows ten year old Rusty and his best friends - Ruby and Botasaur – will use STEM across each episode as they use their creativity and imagination to solve problems. When there’s a job to do and the stakes are sky high, the trio invent and innovate their way out of every jam by repurposing spare parts and found objects into the most awesome contraptions ever!
Rusty Rivets is a show modeled after the Maker Movement, which is all about creating new devices and gadgets from unused, discarded or broken tech devices to solve existing problems.
“[The ‘maker movement’] is an evolution we’ve been aware of for a while,” Marianne told Licensing Source. “There have been some beautiful products and clever companies directed at older kids and we hope that Rusty provides a great entry point for preschoolers.
“I really hope the series encourages kids to look at the devices around them and to explore how their world works. The show encourages reusing items and invention and it would be brilliant to think that it could inspire the next Elon Musk.”
There's always a big adventure in Nickelodeon's brand-new animated preschool series, Rusty Rivets! Created and produced by Spin Master Entertainment (PAW Patrol, Abby Hatcher), the show follows Rusty, a 21st century kid hero who always saves the day by relying on his imagination and incredible resourcefulness. Inspired by the DIY culture of the maker movement, Rusty Rivets (26 half-hour episodes) helps preschoolers gain confidence and fuel their creativity with a strong focus on inventing, creating and problem solving.
In Rusty Rivets, 10-year-old Rusty, along with his best bud Ruby, invents his way out of every jam by repurposing spare parts and found objects into the wildest, coolest, most awesome contraptions ever. The series encourages kids to use their imaginations to design and create fun new gadgets and inventions.
Nick Jr. UK & Ireland will start to premiere and show Rusty Rivets daily at 5:30pm (encore at 9:00pm) from Monday 6th March 2017.
In the series premiere, "Rusty's Rex Rescue"/"Rusty's Park N' Fly," Rusty's friend Liam gets trapped on top of a tall stack of junk in Rusty's Recycling Yard. To rescue Liam, Rusty and Ruby design a Jurassic robot who ultimately becomes their new trusty friend Botasaur. In the next adventure, Rusty and his friends must bring Mr. Higgins' remote control plane down safely when it can't land. Together, they must engineer a daredevil rescue to save the plane.

Rusty Rivets products will be available at leading retailers.
