James Newton To Step Down As VP Of Programming At Nickelodeon UK & Ireland

James Newton, the Vice President (VP) of programming at Nickelodeon UK & Ireland, is leaving the children’s pay TV network after less than a year in the role.

Newton, who joined Nickelodeon in April last year, will exit at the end of this month.

A spokeswoman for Nickelodeon UK & Ireland confirmed to C21Media that the kidsnet is currently looking for a replacement in the role, which is responsible for developing the scheduling and editorial strategy for the Viacom-owned network across its seven specialty channels, as well as on-demand and digital platforms.

Newton, a former director of programming at NBCUniversal in the UK, has also worked at networks including Comedy Central (Paramount Comedy), UKTV (Gold), E!, Syfy, Universal Channel, and The Walt Disney Company (Disney Channel) during his 20-year career in broadcasting.

His appointment at Nickelodeon UK & Ireland last year followed the departure of the broadcaster’s VP and director of programming Tim Patterson in August 2015.

“During his time at Nickelodeon, James has managed the network’s programming and schedules to successfully launch new series and maintain our strong market position. We wish him all the best with his future endeavours,” said Alison Bakunowich, General Manager (GM) at Nickelodeon UK & Ireland.
