NICKELODEON UK & IRELAND APPOINTS VIRGINIA MONAGHAN
AS VP, CREATIVE, MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS
London, 4th January, 2017 – Nickelodeon UK & Ireland has announced that Virginia Monaghan will join the kids’ entertainment brand as Vice President, Creative, Marketing and Communications, Nickelodeon UK & Ireland.
Reporting to General Manager of Nickelodeon UK & Ireland, Alison Bakunowich, Monaghan will begin her new position on Monday, 9th January.
“Virginia brings to Nickelodeon her expertise in elevating brands beyond the screens and into the daily lives of audiences and this knowledge will be key for building the Nickelodeon business,” said Alison Bakunowich, GM Nickelodeon UK & Ireland. “Nickelodeon has proved itself as number one for families in 2016 as shown in our ratings, the popularity of our consumer products and the success of our first ever UK Slimefest. I am sure Virginia will build on this momentum to take our brands even further.”
Monaghan joins Nickelodeon following a year in which the network became the number one kids’ network in cable and satellite homes.* Her role will see her lead Nickelodeon’s award-winning creative, marketing and communications team.
An employee of Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) since 1991, Monaghan has worked across the MTV and Comedy Central brands. For a decade she served as Director of Music Channels for MTV, overseeing the content across the brand’s suite of eight music channels. She has also been Head of Marketing for the network and spent most of 2016 overseeing the marketing, press and creative teams across both MTV and Comedy Central. Most recently, Monaghan has served as VP, Commercial and Marketing Experiences for MTV and Comedy Central. Across her career Monaghan has worked on events such as the iconic Lick Parties with Trevor Nelson, MTV Dance Ibiza residencies and Gonzo On Tour with Zane Lowe. Last year she grew Comedy Central’s Friendsfest from a 5000 capacity single-venue event to a nationwide tour, visited by over 60,000.
“I cannot wait to join the Nickelodeon team and get to work on building the network and its properties. There is a huge potential within the business and a real opportunity to grow the network’s brands both on screen and beyond,” said Virginia Monaghan.
The home of SpongeBob SquarePants, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Paw Patrol and Dora the Explorer, Nickelodeon UK & Ireland Network is available in over 13 million cable and satellite homes and now reaches more than 10 million viewers a month. Launched in 1993, the top-performing Nickelodeon network comprises seven dedicated entertainment channels for kids aged 4-15 and their families: Nickelodeon, Nickelodeon HD, Nickelodeon+1, Nicktoons, Nick Jr., Nick Jr. +1 and Nick Jr. Too. The entertainment company has built a diverse multi-platform business by putting kids first in everything it does – Kids Rule! Content is at the core of the business with critically acclaimed and hugely-popular television programming from the UK and around the world. In addition to the quality television programmes, Nickelodeon also produces bespoke content available online and on Nick Play, as well as consumer product and recreation opportunities such as the UK’s first-ever Nick theme park, Nickelodeon Land and the Nickelodeon Store in Leicester Square.
