Viacom Appoints Bob Bakish CEO; Board of Directors Discontinue Exploration of Potential Combination with CBS

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Board of Directors of Viacom Inc. (NASDAQ: VIAB, VIA) announced today that it has discontinued the exploration of a potential combination with CBS following receipt of National Amusements’ letter and request, and dissolved the Special Committee that was formed to evaluate a potential transaction. It has appointed Bob Bakish as President and Chief Executive Officer and as a member of the Board, effective immediately.
Mr. Bakish has served as Acting President and Chief Executive Officer of Viacom since November 15. He has held leadership positions throughout the organization since joining in 1997, most recently serving as President and Chief Executive Officer of Viacom International Media Networks prior to his Acting CEO role.
Tom May, Chairman of the Board, said, “In Bob’s short time as Acting President and CEO he has impressed the Board of Directors with the decisive steps he has taken. He has moved quickly to deliver upon the mandate given to him – to maximize Viacom’s potential as a strong, growing and independent company. Bakish’s growth strategy for VIMN also involved substantially increasing the amount of original programming produced by Viacom internationally, driven in part by the recently opened Viacom International Studios in Miami, and Channel 5 Productions in the UK. In addition, he has expanded the off-screen presence of VIMN's brands through live events, stores, theme parks and hotels.
Bakish has delivered significant growth in some of the world’s most valuable media markets including established markets like the U.K., Italy and Spain, as well as higher growth markets such as India, Argentina, Mexico, Brazil, China, Russia and Africa.
Previously, Mr. Bakish was President, MTV Networks International, running MTVN’s operations outside the U.S. He previously served as EVP, Operations and Viacom Enterprises, and prior to that as EVP and Chief Operating Officer, MTV Networks Advertising Sales. Prior to joining MTV Networks, Mr. Bakish was SVP, Planning, Development and Technology at Viacom. Before joining Viacom in February 1997, Mr. Bakish was a partner with Booz Allen & Hamilton in its Media and Entertainment practice.
Mr. Bakish received an M.B.A. from the Columbia Business School in 1989 and a B.S. in Operations Research from Columbia's School of Engineering and Applied Science in 1985.

Peppa Pig Heading To Cinemas In The UK And Australia In 2017
Entertainment One (eOne) has unveiled big screen theatrical releases for the hit preschool property Peppa Pig in the U.K. and Australia in 2017!
In Australia, the theatrical release of Peppa Pig My First Cinema Experience: Peppa’s Australian Holiday will mark the property’s first big-screen debut in the country when it premieres on Thursday 16th March 2017. The Australian release will begin with a four-part special that sees Peppa and family head down under to visit an old friend. Meanwhile, Peppa Pig My First Cinema Experience, which was designed specifically for a preschool audience, will screen in theaters across the U.K. on Friday 7th April 2017.
In Peppa Pig My First Cinema Experience, the nine brand-new five-minute episodes of Peppa Pig and sing-along content will only be available in cinemas. The episodes will be connected with never-before-seen interactive entertainment featuring live-action Peppa and George characters, along with their friend Daisy. The release will include special appearances from new characters including Policeman Panda voiced by David Mitchell and Mrs Crocodile voiced by Jo Brand. In the first episode, titled “Peppa Vists London,” the Queen will make a return to Peppa Pig, as she takes Peppa and friends on an unforgettable sight-seeing tour around London on a double decker bus. Eight additional episodes will see a trip to the zoo, a cruise along a canal and some advice from the police. To celebrate, eOne has released the first UK teaser trailer and film poster. Children and parents can join in with games as well as singing and dancing along to new versions of favourite nursery rhymes.
Peppa Pig My First Cinema Experience: Peppa’s Australian Holiday will feature the voices of a real Australian family. Quebecor Content Expands Agree Agreement With Viacom For More Nickelodeon Programming
Strengthening its position as an industry leader in multi-platform entertainment, Quebecor Content announced today that it has renewed through Corus Entertainment its major agreement with media giant Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN), one of the world's largest producers and distributors of youth content, with brands that are immensely popular among children and teenagers in over 160 countries around the globe!
With this new agreement, Quebecor Content will be furthering its children's and youth offerings on Yoopa and Club illico, thereby solidifying their respective ranking as the number one platforms in Quebec for youth and family television and subscription video-on-demand (SVOD).
Since this fall, Yoopa has broadcast the highly popular animated preschool series Fresh Beat Band of Spies; while in 2017, Club illico will be offering over 750 episodes of hit Nickelodeon series, including 100 Things to Do Before High School, Back at the Barnyard, Bella and the Bulldogs, Every witch way, Henry Danger, The Loud House, Ni Hao, Kai Lan, Nicky, Ricky Dicky and Dawn, and Pig Goat Banana Cricket. The properties will join a number of other Nickelodeon megahits from the VIMN catalogue already available on the platform, including Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Dora The Explorer, Go, Diego, Go!, Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness, Penguins of Madagascar, Avatar: The Last Airbender, SpongeBob SquarePants, Victorious, and House of Anubis.
