Alibaba Invests In Nickelodeon And Paramount's "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows"
Alibaba Pictures Group, the film making arm of Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba, is to invest in two of Paramount Pictures's summer tentpole films: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows and Star Trek Beyond - as the Chinese company extends its foray into Hollywood.
The company said that it expects both movies to be imported in to China under the revenue sharing quota scheme. And both are expected to be released in the second half of the year through state-owned distributors China Film Group and Huaxia Film.
Ninja Turtles, in which Wanda is also an investor, is set for a June 3 release stateside, while the new Star Trek will arrive on U.S. screens in July. Alibaba indicated both films have received government approval to be imported into China under the country's quota system.
The releases will be supported and given a marketing boost through Alibaba's Taobao Movie and Yulebao.
This is the second time that Alibaba has invested in and provided Chinese promotional support to a Paramount title. Last year it came on board Tom Cruise vehicle Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation.
"We had a great experience working with Paramount on 'Mission: Impossible,' and are very excited to join forces again for these two pictures, both of which have terrific fan bases in China that we hope to cooperate with Paramount to grow even larger," said Zhang Wei, President of Alibaba Pictures.
"Our most recent collaboration showed us this new internet-powered movie and television company has in areas such as promotion, distribution and movie-related merchandise. We look forward to even more successful launches of these films in the global movie market," said Rob Moore, Vice Chairman of Paramount.
Alibaba said that globalization is at the core of APG's strategy. It will "consolidate resources, technology and talent on a global basis and directly participate in the global competition of the entertainment industry," it said.
Star Trek Into Darkness grossed $57 million in China in 2013, about 12% of its worldwide haul of $467 million. The Ninja Turtles cartoons have long been popular in China, and Paramount's 2014 Ninja Turtle film grossed $63 million in China, also about 12% of its $493-million worldwide earnings.
The companies did not reveal how much Alibaba would invest in the productions.
In addition to the Paramount films, Alibaba Pictures is further setting its sights beyond China by investing in a Korean action film called REAL starring Kim Soo Hyun, which is expected to be released in 2017. The company is also bankrolling its own productions, several of which are expected to be released in 2016, including Ferryman, which counts Hong Kong auteur Wong Kar Wai as a producer and is directed by Zhang Jiajia, author of the short story on which it's based. The production arm of Jack Ma’s e-commerce giant also used the Beijing International Film Festival this weekend as a platform to announce plans for a partnership on an unspecified film from by celebrated Italian director Giuseppe Tornatore (Cinema Paradiso).
The deals come shortly after Alibaba Pictures said it would team with Skydance (which also had a hand in M:I5 and is in Star Trek Beyond) on The Flying Tigers, a film about the volunteer group of U.S. Army Air Corps, Navy and Marines that defended China against Japanese forces before America entered World War II.

Nickelodeon India has announced Together For Good - an initiative that aims to get children to take small steps towards cleanliness!
Kick-starting today, Monday 18th April 2016, the first edition of the campaign in India and second worldwide aims to make the process of cleaning more fun and entertaining for children. Together for Good is Nickelodeon International's worldwide initiative that believes anyone, anywhere, any time can help make the world a better place. In India too, the movement has been launched with a vision to empower kids to make positive changes to society.
Commenting on the initiative, Nina Jaipuria, Executive Vice President (EVP) and business head, Kids Cluster at Viacom18 said, "At Nickelodeon, we believe that children are change agents of tomorrow. Through 'Together For Good' we want to start imbibing in children the eternal virtues of cleanliness, while also empowering them to make small but impactful changes in society. Together For Good is a movement that will inspire the ever creative and curious kids to bring about a positive change in the world."
Given the fact that cleanliness is one of India's primary concerns, this edition of Together For Good sets out to address the concern by inspiring children to take small but actionable steps towards creating a cleaner future. Nickelodeon believes that kids are very creative and hence go beyond just simple 'Dos' and 'Don'ts' to contribute towards society in their unique way. Hence, this year the campaign will be actioned through the unique idea of 'Collect -> Clean -> Create'. This will not only help them to be aware but go a step further to unleash their creativity and build simple usable items out of waste, scrap and junk.
In keeping with the core of Collect, Clean and Create, Nickelodeon will begin by seeding messages of cleanliness on-air and online with the help of kids' favourite Nicktoons with whom they share immense equity. Children across the country will be encouraged to take up the issue at an individual level, or even join clubs and groups to help out.
The movement will be brought to life on digital on nickindia.com/TFG. The page will help kids take simple and actionable steps with a starter kit with info-graphics, articles on the importance of cleanliness and various methods and tools that they can use for personal as well as environmental cleanliness. The page will also list all the other activities that are currently active in the country and open to participation.
The movement will also be taken on-ground across three cities where, under the guidance of a leading artist, children will clean a popular city locale and create a unique art masterpiece to amplify and bring alive the message of "Together for Good", moving towards cleaner surroundings.

Nickelodeon's "PAW Patrol" Is On A Roll In The UK
Nickelodeon and Spin Master's hit CG-animated preschool series PAW Patrol has broken into the top ten toy properties list for the fist time, according to NPD data!
The show was the UK's sixth largest property in March 2016 and the seventh year to date (YTD), reports NPD EPoS March 2016.
The growth of the property looks set to continue with the launch of the Air Rescue theme in May 2016, which Spin Master is set to support with various campaigns and new toys.
Emma Eden, marketing manager at Spin Master, said: "We're looking forward to some fantastic product launches in autumn/winter 2016 and have some exciting marketing plans to put into place to continue to grow the property."
Egmont Publishing also recently announced the launch of PAW Patrol magazine in the UK.
PAW Patrol is an action-adventure pre-school series starring six heroic Puppies: Chase, Marshall, Rocky, Zuma, Rubble, and Skye, who are led by a tech-savvy 10-year-old boy named Ryder. With a unique blend of problem-solving skills, cool vehicles and lots of cute canine humour, the PAW Patrol works together on high-stakes rescue missions to protect the Adventure Bay community. PAW Patrol is the No.1 show on Nick Jr. UK & Ireland and airs every day on the top-performing preschool channel. PAW Patrol was also the top product preschool toy item in the UK market in 2015.

Nickelodeon Netherlands Unveils First-Look At "De Ludwigs"
To celebrate Nickelodeon Netherlands (Nederland) starting to premiere and show De Ludwigs every Monday to Thursday at 19.20 uur from Monday 9th May 2016, Nickelodeon Netherlands has unveiled the channels first De Ludwigs teaser trailer, giving fans a first-look at Nickelodeon's brand-new locally produced adventure comedy series, which you can watch by clicking the picture below!:
De Ludwigs follows the comedic adventures of the Ludwig family, a family of five foster children who live in an imposing Amsterdam canal house that also serves as a museum with their parents, Kate and Erik Ludwig (Tooske en Bastiaan Ragas).
When Kate and Erik mysteriously disappear, their five step-children - Benny (Timo Verbeek), Anoosha (Rosaline Lantink), Sam (Cedric van den Abbeele), Yara (Luca Hollestelle) and Daniel (Yassine El Ouardi) - are dragged into a thrilling adventure where the mysterious family history of the Ludwigs is gradually unravelled.
The children are not only focused on the recovery of their parents and solving the mystery, but in the meantime, they must do everything to keep the household running, fend off the Ludwig's greedy and duplicitous heirs, and prevent others discovering that their parents are gone.
Filmed locally in Amsterdam, De Ludwigs (20 X 30:00 minute episodes) is aimed at children aged 6 to 12 years, but brings an exciting story laced with mystery, humour and movie-quality television for the whole family to enjoy. The series is filmed in Amsterdam produced by Blooming Media. Cees Geel and Kees Hulst will also have roles in the series.
In addition to a Dutch version of De Ludwigs, Nickelodeon also announced they have commissioned Blooming Media to produce a English-language version of the series, titled The Ludwigs, which will begin airing on Nickelodeon channels globally, including in the USA, during the second half of 2016. The series will share the same sets and scripts as the Dutch version, and will also be shot in Amsterdam.

Fulham Named Nickelodeon Family Club Of The Year At The Football League Awards 2016
Fulham have been named Nickelodeon Family Club of the Year at The Football League Awards 2016!
The football club received the award at the gala ceremony at Manchester Central on Sunday evening in front of over 600 guests from clubs, sponsors and the football industry.
The Football League Awards 2016 was hosted in Manchester for the first time, the same city in which The Football League was officially formed 128 years ago to the day. In its 11th year, the awards ceremony celebrates on and off pitch excellence across The League's 72 clubs.
Fulham beat off competition from other shortlisted clubs Doncaster Rovers, Middlesbrough, Millwall, Oxford United and Stevenage to claim the overall Nickelodeon Family Club of the Year Award.
In 2015, Fulham worked hard to successfully attract more young fans and their families to Craven Cottage, and broaden their engagement. The club made improvements in all areas of family engagement from the match programme to their 'Here to Help' stewards. They revamped the Family Zone and ran schemes like 'My First Matchday' which offers first-time junior visitors a special behind-the-scenes tour of Craven Cottage and have their name in lights on the big screen.
Football League clubs excel at attracting young fans and families to their grounds to watch live football. By using mystery shopper families, The Football League's Family Excellence Award scheme acknowledges the clubs that are delivering a fantastic family match day experience. The Nickelodeon Family Club of the Year award honours those clubs that are leading the way across The Football league in continuing to push the standard even higher to providing the very best experience for families.
Shaun Harvey, Chief Executive of The Football League, said: "During another action packed Football League season it is important to acknowledge outstanding performances, both on and off the pitch.
"We're delighted to recognise this special group of nominees who have shown exceptional levels of talent, dedication and achievement. Congratulations to everyone who was nominated and particularly our winners, all of whom are deserving of their accolade."
On collecting the award, Jack Burrows, Fulham's Senior Marketing Executive, said: "It's a fantastic achievement for us at Fulham to win this award, and it's testament to a lot of hard work that goes on behind the scenes to make young children feel welcome at Craven Cottage."
Following Fulham's overall win, Doncaster rovers were named the Nickelodeon Family Club of the Year in League 1, while Oxford United picked up the League 2 accolade.
Other awards presented on the night include the Johnstone's Paint Community Club of the Year, the PFA Player in the Community and Capital One Supporter of the Year. Players from across The Football League were also recognised for their on pitch performances, with the Sky Bet Players of the Year, Football League Young Player of the Year, Mitre Goal of the Year and Football Manager Team of the Year awards decided, alongside the prestigious Sir Tom Finney Award and Contribution to League Football award.

Corki is in danger of being removed from Mackendrick Prep by her father, Jodi is deciding if she should pursue her love of fashion, and now that Sun Hi is clashing with hotshot guitarist Linc Harrison (Vinson Tran), it looks like XO-IQ might be over, until a new band competition and rival boy band emerge and change everything.
