Nickelodeon Renews "School of Rock" For Season 3

Nickelodeon has renewed the networks hit live-action musical comedy series School of Rock for a supersized 20-episode third season, Deadline reports! Production on season three is scheduled to begin in early 2017.

The pickup comes as the series, developed by Jim and Steve Armogida, is heading toward its Season 2 finale, which will air on Nick USA on Saturday 28th January 2017.

Originally ordered straight-to-series, School of Rock landed a quick 13-episode Season 2 renewal four episodes into its 12-episode freshman run. A solid ratings performer, the series is averaging 1.4 million total viewers in its second season, and is posting double-digit year-over-year increases with its kid audience. In Q4, it ranks as one of the top five shows on all TV with kids 6-11.

The new season will continue to mix comedy with cast performances of popular and original songs. School of Rock stars Breanna Yde as Tomika, Lance Lim as Zack, Jade Pettyjohn as Summer, Aidan Miner as Lawrence, Ricardo Hurtado as Freddy, Tony Cavalero as Mr. Dewey Finn, and Jama Williamson as Principal Mullins.

Jim and Steve Armogida serve as executive producers with Jay Kogen. Richard Linklater, who directed the Jack Black-starring feature from a script by Mike White, also executive produces alongside the movie’s producer Scott Rudin and Eli Bush.

School Of Rock joins two other Nick series that were recently renewed, Dan Schneider’s Henry Danger (season four) and Game Shakers (season three).

School Of Rock marked the first series order for Paramount TV and is the first to go to a third season. The studio recently saw its new Epix drama series Berlin Station renewed for a second season, and fellow newbie, drama Shooter, has been a breakout for USA.
