The range, produced by Golden Bear, includes toys based on the shows main characters: Lily, Salty Dog and Gull.
Speaking to The Source at the Argos Christmas showcase this week, Colin Williams, creative director at Sixteen South, said that three lines would be available – a Lily and Gull combo set, plus smaller versions of the Lily and Salty characters. "We didn't compromise in any part of the production of the show, so it was important that if there were ever going to be toys, they would follow suit," Colin said. "They have a traditional feel and we felt this was the right approach for now."
Complementing the launch of the range and the new Argos catalogue, the competition will ask kids to create a new Lily's Driftwood Bay character and, with their parents help, upload an image of their character to Nickjr.co.uk. The winning entry will be animated into an episode of Lily's Driftwood Bay that will be broadcast on the Nick Jr. network of channels. The winner's name will appear in the show credits and they will also receive a special Lily's Driftwood Bay prize pack. Five runners up will also receive Lily's Driftwood Bay prizes in the competition that is now running until Friday, August 12th.
"Lily's Driftwood Bay is an enchanting addition to our pre-school offering and it's fitting that toys from such a great UK property will be available exclusively at the UK's number one retailer," said Chris Watters, buying manager of infant and pre-school toys at Argos. "Fans of the show will be able to get their hands on the range from the day of launch with Argos Fast Track delivery, and to celebrate the launch we’re giving one lucky Lily fan the chance to create a character that will appear in the show."
Sixteen South creative director Colin Williams continued: "We're really excited to see what great ideas they have for new characters. Our aim was always to tell stories and the fact we’re here today is a lovely bonus. It's a nice result of the show working on air."
Watched by over 7.8 million viewers to date, Lily's Driftwood Bay is a multi-award winning mixed-media animation series created completely from items that have been found washed up on the beach. The show follows the imaginative adventures of six-year-old Lily.
The series, created by and directed by Colin Williams (Pajanimals, Big and Small) and produced by Belfast-based independent children's television production company Sixteen South Television, boasts an all-star line-up of voice talent, including Stephen Fry, Jane Horrocks, Ardal O'Halon, Peter Mullan and Annette Crosby, and has won many awards since launching on Nick Jr. UK & Ireland in May 2014, including for Best Pre-school Programme at the 2015 Broadcast Awards and Best Pre-school Animation at the 2016 British Animation Awards. Lily's Driftwood Bay also airs on Channel 5's Milkshake! with season two of the series currently airing on Nick Jr. UK & Ireland, which will feature guest appearances from Dolly Parton and Rob Brydon.
The competition will be supported by a TV ad slot across the Nickelodeon network, which can be viewed below:
