Saban has confirmed that their iconic "Power Rangers" franchise WON'T be moving to Netflix in 2017!
Following rumors that, starting with its 24th season, "Power Rangers" would move away from its current home on Nickelodeon and debut exclusively on Netflix, Saban confirmed to Den of Geek that "there is no accuracy to the report that "Power Rangers" is moving exclusively to Netflix in 2017."
Netflix will continue to feature "Power Rangers" seasons 1-21 on the SVoD service.
Nickelodeon has been home to "Power Rangers" since 2011 and is currently airing "Power Rangers Dino Charge", the 22nd season of Saban's long-running "Power Rangers" franchise, based on Toei's "Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger" series. Saban Brands' agreements with Nickelodeon and Bandai America will continue until 2016.
"Power Rangers" has been going strong since 1993 and just recently celebrated it's whopping 800th episode.
There's is currently no official word on what the next evolution of "Power Rangers" will be "Dino Super Charge", set to debut on Nick USA during early 2016. Whether Saban Brands will go with the train themed "ToQGer", the ninja themed "Ninninger", or jump back to older series "Go-Busters" remains to be seen. Usually the first word on a new "Power Rangers" name comes from registered trademarks or licensing expos. In the past, fans discovered trademarks for "Power Rangers Relic Hunters" which eventually became "Power Rangers Operation Overdrive".
The "Shuriken Sentai Nin'ninger" special-effects series premiered in February 2015, and marks the 40th anniversary of Toei's "Super Sentai" franchise. The story takes place after The Last Ninjer sealed away all the yōkai in the world. This lasted until The Last Ninjer's death, when the yōkai returned. His descendants, five cousins, battle the yōkai as the Nin'ninger.
A "Power Rangers" movie is slated to be released on January 13, 2017. Dean Israelite ("Project Almanac") is on board to direct the film. Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz are penning the "Power Rangers" script. The two writers previously wrote the "X-Men": "First Class" and "Thor" films. Saban Brands' Brian Casentini and Lionsgate's Allison Shearmur are producing the film.
The film project previously cast Becky Gomez as the Yellow Ranger, Naomi Scott as the Pink Ranger, Ludi Lin as the Black Ranger, Dacre Montgomery as the Red Ranger, and R.J. Cyler as the Blue Ranger.
Fans can watch brand-new episodes of the latest "Power Rangers" series, "Power Rangers Dino Charge", every Saturday at 12:00pm ET/PT on Nickelodeon USA.
