Thousands of families braved the rain to attend the free event, which offered live performances, super hero activities and meet and greets with popular Nickelodeon Nick Jr. characters.
Nickelodeon mega star SpongeBob SquarePants, set to star in his second big screen adventure in April 2015, replaced his SquarePants with Aussie boardshorts in honour of Australia Day, Dora the Explorer made her Australian debut at the Summer Playground and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Hi-5 crew and "Play Along with Sam" star Sam Moran performed for the crowds.
All Nickelodeon characters and performers also joined Moran for the Salute to Australia, which saw the whole nation unite and sing the Australian national anthem, "Advance Australia Fair".
Additional activities included a chill-out Book Nook zone where kids and families enjoyed scheduled story readings by the City of Sydney Libraries, a zone which encouraged kids to learn football skills and techniques from qualified coaches on the day and a super hero activation zone called SuperNick where kids could be superimposed onto famous Australian settings.
"As leaders in family entertainment, we are excited to have partnered with the Australia Day Council of NSW to make Australia Day in Hyde Park bigger and better than ever," said Jihee Nam, Vice President (VP) and General Manager (GM) for Nickelodeon Australia and New Zealand.
"Nickelodeon's unique entertainment offering ensures that we can always deliver families a memorable experience and we are proud to have been a part of the most celebrated day on every Australian’s calendar."
