Nickelodeon Shows And Stars Nominated For Eight 2014 NAMIC Vision Awards

The National Association for Multi-ethnicity in Communications (NAMIC), has announced in the following press release, from PRNewswire, that a raft of Nickelodeon shows and stars have been Nickelodeon have been nominated for eight 2014 NAMIC Vision Awards! Now celebrating the 20th anniversary, the Vision Awards recognize multi-ethnic and cross-cultural television programming that depicts the lives, spirit and contributions of people of color and best reflects the diversity of the global viewing audience.

Nickelodeon's hit original animated series (Nicktoon) "The Legend of Korra" and NickToons's popular animated series "NFL Rush Zone" have both been nominated in the 'Animation' award category.

The 2013 "TeenNick HALO Awards", which celebrated real teens who are "Helping and Leading Others" (HALO) and making a difference in their communities, has been nominated in the 'Awards & Honors' category.

Tia Mowry-Hardrict and Michael Boatman, the stars of Nick At Nite's hit original family comedy series "Instant Mom", have both been nominated in the 'Best Performance - Comedy' category, with "Instant Mom" also being nominated in the 'Comedy' category.

Meanwhile, Nickelodeon Preschool's popular animated series "Dora the Explorer" has been nominated for 'Children's' category, and the NickMom.com web series "It's Kymplicated!", starring actress and comedian Kym Whitley, has been nominated in the 'Digital Media - Short Form' category!

LOS ANGELES, March 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ - The National Association for Multi-ethnicity in Communications (NAMIC), has announced the nominees for the 2014 NAMIC Vision Awards. Now celebrating the 20th anniversary, the Vision Awards recognize multiethnic and cross-cultural television programming that depicts the lives, spirit and contributions of people of color and best reflects the diversity of the global viewing audience.

The 2014 NAMIC Vision Award nominees were announced in conjunction with the VIP Reception for the Walter Kaitz Foundation's 5th Annual Hollywood Creative Forum. The VIP Reception was hosted by Creative Artists Agency. James Lesure, co-star of TBS's "Men at Work" and Danielle Vega, co-star of the Hulu original series, "East Los High" were on-hand to announce the nominations.

"For two decades, through the Vision Awards, NAMIC has sustained a platform for fostering diversity and inclusion in the content arena by recognizing networks, talent and other entities committed to advancing diversity across all digital platforms," said Alicin Williamson, interim executive leader of NAMIC and principal, The Raben Group. "As we reflect on the 20th anniversary, NAMIC would like to thank all those within the industry that have supported this awards initiative over the past 20 years."

HBO garnered 10 nominations to lead all contenders vying for this year's NAMIC Vision Awards. A total of 30 networks generated 66 nominations for awards presented in the 17 categories: Animation; Awards & Honors; Children's; Comedy; Documentary; Drama; Foreign Language; Lifestyle; News/Informational; Original Movie or Special; Reality; Reality - Social Issues; Sports; Variety/Talk Show; Best Performance - Comedy; Best Performance - Drama and Digital Media - Short Form. Original programs having aired from November 1, 2012 to November 10, 2013 were eligible for consideration.

Nick@Nite's "Instant Mom" was this year's top nominated program, earning three nominations. The original series garnered Best Performance - Comedy nods for co-stars, Tia Mowry-Hardrict and Michael Boatman with the third nomination received in the Comedy category. Best Performance - Comedy nominees also include China Anne McClain for Disney Channel's "A.N.T. Farm" and James Lesure received a nomination for TBS' "Men at Work." In addition to "Instant Mom," nominated programs rounding out the Comedy category include: Lifetime's "Devious Maids," TV One's "The Rickey Smiley Show" and Universal Television's "The Mindy Project."

HBO dominated the Best Performance - Drama category with nominations for "Treme's" Khandi Alexander and nods for "Boardwalk Empire's" Michael Kenneth Williams and Jeffery Wright. "Treme" was also nominated for Drama alongside History's "The Bible" and the ABC primetime series, "Grey's Anatomy" and "Scandal." OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network also showed dominance in the Reality category earning nominations for "Raising Whitley," "Six Little McGhees" and "Welcome to Sweetie Pie's." BET Networks also received a nod for Reality. ESPN received three of the four nominations in the Sports category for its original programs, "Richie Parker: Drive," "Sapelo Island," and E:60/ESPN's "Tony Gonzalez All-In." Rounding out the Sports category is Al Jazeera America's "America Tonight: Fists of Fury."

The NAMIC Vision Awards competition extends eligibility to national broadcast and cable networks; local affiliates; local origination programs from cable operators; and VOD content produced for digital platforms. Entries were judged by a distinguished panel of entertainment industry executives. Judging is focused on overall imagery (creative merit, originality, and presentation quality), sensitivity (the consideration given to cultural nuances), writing (the depiction of issues relevant to people of color) and the quality of acting in the performance categories.

Winning programs will be showcased online via the 2014 NAMIC Vision Awards Winners Gallery. Starting in mid-April, :60 second clips of the winning entries in each of the 17 categories may be viewed at http://www.namic.com.

Nick At Nite's "See Dad Run" To End After Season Three

The entertainment news website Deadline.com is reporting the Nickelodeon news that season three of Nick at Nite's first original scripted family comedy series "See Dad Run", which is currently filming, will be the shows last, with production on the series wrapping in May 2014 for good.


There are currently five episodes left from the 20-episode second season of "See Dad Run", with the 13-episode Season 3 expected to air later this year — culminating with an hour-long series finale, which has been ordered in addition to the 13 regular episodes.

"See Dad Run" is executive produced by and stars Scott Baio who plays David Hobbs, an actor who, after a decade on television, becomes a stay-at-home father while his soap star wife (Alanna Ubach, "Legally Blonde") makes her return to the limelight. Mark Curry ("Hangin' with Mr. Cooper") also stars. Rounding out the cast are Ryan Newman ("Zeke and Luther") and Bailey Michelle Brown as David’s daughters, Emily and Janie, and Jackson Brundage ("One Tree Hill", "You Gotta See This") as David's son, Joe. The series, shot on the former "Happy Days" stage in Los Angeles, is created/executive produced by Tina Albanese and Patrick Labyorteaux, with executive producers Nat Bernstein and Mitchel Katlin serving as showrunners. Eric Bischoff and Jason Hervey also serve as executive producers through their production company Bischoff Hervey Entertainment (BHE):
Nick At Nite’s ‘See Dad Run’ To End Run After Three Seasons

Viacom And Google Announce Resolution Of Copyright Lawsuit

Viacom Inc. (NASDAQ: VIAB, VIA), the parent company of Nickelodeon, the number-one entertainment brand for kids and families, and Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) today, Tuesday 18th March 2014, jointly announced in the following press release, from Business Wire, the resolution of the "Viacom vs. YouTube" copyright litigation!

In connection with the resolution of the litigation, the companies issued the following statement: "Google and Viacom today jointly announced the resolution of the Viacom vs. YouTube copyright litigation. This settlement reflects the growing collaborative dialogue between our two companies on important opportunities, and we look forward to working more closely together."

The terms of the settlement were not disclosed. However, Google is not paying Viacom any money under the deal, according to sources familiar with the settlement, reports Variety.

Viacom sued YouTube for US$1 billion in 2007, shortly after Google acquired YouTube for US$1.65 billion in 2006. During the lawsuit, the companies have reached business agreements, including a deal in which Viacom participates in the YouTube Content ID program to scan for copyrighted material uploaded to the service. Paramount also started to license films to YouTube available for rent in 2012.

Viacom alleged that the video service had engaged in "massive intentional copyright infringement of Viacom's entertainment properties". According to Viacom, nearly 160,000 clips of Viacom programming — including clips from shows such as "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" and "South Park" - were available on YouTube without permission, and that those clips had been viewed more than 1.5 billion times.

In court documents, Viacom argued that YouTube essentially built its business on infringing videos, and the media company produced e-mails in which some of the site's founders discuss the prevalence of copyrighted videos uploaded by users and their propensity to generate more traffic.
