Collaboration Marks First Network Sponsorship for Program Run by Artists for Artists
BURBANK, Calif. – Sept. 4, 2014 – Nickelodeon Animation Studio has teamed with LoopDeLoop, the bi-monthly animation challenge organization, to bring the ever-growing ranks of talented animators and artists contributing to LoopDeLoop together at the Nickelodeon Animation Studio in Burbank, Calif. on Oct. 3. The free screening event, open to the artistic community, will showcase original works submitted by participants from around the world. With a rich history of championing artist-driven shows and shorts, Nickelodeon’s sponsorship is the first network support of a LoopDeLoop event.
Every two months, LoopDeLoop calls upon artists – from student to professional, independent to industry, TV to feature, and local to international – to submit looping animation based around a theme.
For August and September, Nickelodeon has partnered with LoopDeLoop for the theme of "childhood."
This challenge asks participants to embrace their inner child and tap into their memories by making a looping animation inspired by the joyful years of playing with crayons, making a mess, exploring the unknown, and catching their favorite shows after school.
Selected loops will be posted on the LoopDeLoop website within five days of submission for everyone to enjoy, comment and share. Submissions close at 11:30 p.m. on Sept. 21 in the participant's time zone.
Visit the LoopDeLoop submissions page for more details on format and content restrictions.
To conclude the challenge, Nickelodeon Animation Studio will host a free screening event in Burbank, Calif. on Friday, Oct. 3, where the submitted works will be showcased. Artists and fans are encouraged to come out and cheer for their favorite animations. Two winners are selected during the screening: a "Local Hero," voted by the audience, as well as the "International Loop Hero," voted by selected judges representing a range of experience across the animation community from showrunners, producers, and bloggers to up-and-comers. Previous judges have included Evan Spiridellis, C.H. Greenblatt, Jerry Beck, Yvette Kaplan, Atlanta Trealor, Shadi Petosky, Pes, Phil Rynda, Alex Hirsch, Daron Nefcy, Noelle Steveson, Madeline Flores, Seo Kim, Matt Forsythe, Lynn Wang, Ed Skudder, Jake Armstrong and Weird Al.
About LoopDeLoop
LoopDeLoop is a bi-monthly animation challenge founded in Melbourne, Australia in 2011 by animator and educator Neil Sanders. After going international, every two months, animators from around the world create looping animations based on a given topic and upload them to www.loopdeloop.org. At the end of the two months all of the posted loops are compiled and screened to a live audience. During the screening, the audience is encouraged to cheer, clap and make some noise for their favorite loops.
Designed to be an open and friendly place for animators, LoopDeLoop unifies "animation for animations sake" with industry networking by providing animators the opportunity to screen their work on an international platform and promote themselves and their work to both the indie community and the animation industry, all within the artist-friendly setting of quick challenges and artistic experimentation.
